Hi Mark , great value on the fruit trees, good tip on spreading the roots out, a square hole helps too, beautiful day there, many thanks for sharing enjoy the rest of your week kind regards alan………………THE DAWN CHORUS PLOT 🌿
Hi Mark I got two fruit trees from B & M last year one apple and one pear. I ad 6 apples on one tree it was a coxes orange good result The only thing I did different to you was I put the trees in water for 24 hours. Great video again mate
Ahhh that sounds like a good idea to soak the roots in water for 24 hours first, especially as I'd had the trees sitting for a few days before I got them planted out👍
Thanks Kath. I'd had my eye on a Cox's Orange Pippin for a while but they're pretty expensive from the fruit tree specialists. When I saw them in the Tesco offer I jumped at the chance to get one👍
Thanks Mark. Its a part of the plot I've been wanting to get on top of for a while but never seem to have found the time to do so. One more load of woodchips and that should be it done 👍
Iv just got an alotment with 3 apple trees fully established looky me eating apples to the plot is a mess but all the fun sorting it out grate vidio fell 👍🌱
Nice one getting established apple trees on the plot! Think it might be a couple of years before I get a decent crop off the new ones but I'm in it for the long run 👍
I got an apple and plum tree both from B&M and will never do it again because they both came down with disease Coral spot on the plum and Honey fungus on the apple tree. Excellent video Mark and hopefully you are more successful than I was.
Hi mark like what you did there I think I would of put some Mycorrhizal fungi over the roots and bit fish blood and bone into planting hole , but have to say those had some handsome roots on them. Keep safe Bill and val
Must admit I did pop a wee bit of blood, fish and bone in the holes as well as a sprinkling on top of the soil but for some reason missed that bit off the video. I've never used Mycroohizal Fungi before but have heard a few folk mention it. Something else to add to the shopping list the next time I'm at the garden centre 👍
Hi Mate Great video and an even better bargain hope you get plenty of fruit from them. We have to ask for planning / growing permission before we can plant any fruit trees, we can only plant the small ones and cannot allow them to grow above 6ft tall. Take care and be safe.
Thanks Rob. The one problem with the cheap fruit trees is I don't know what the root stock is. We're not allowed to let trees get too tall on our site either so I'll be keeping on top of the pruning with these ones.
Hi Mark. Thanks for you great video and information. I have got the same apple trees the cox's and jonagold from tesco. Did you have any fruit last year? Please give us an update. Once again thanks .
Question: We have an existing Apple tree & planting two more compatible for pollination. Have to plant two Pear trees - can I plant the Pears near the Apples ? They should get along - correct ? Judi
Hi Judi, yup should be fine to plant the pears and apples next to each other. If they bloom at the same time they'll cross pollinate for a bumper crop🍎🍐🐝
Hi mate I've got a apple tree I want to plant but I've got hard clay soil, do I need to dig a larger hole and mix in some peat before planting? Not sure if they'll grow in this soil as everything else is struggling. It's a 3 year old tree if that's any help.
Hi, sorry for very basic question. Absolutely new to gardening. Can these be planted in back garden? I am finding this offer in Tesco. There are victoria plum, discovery apples and a variety of plum i forgot.
Hey, welcome along to the channel. These can absolutely be planted in a back garden using the same technique or perhaps in a large planter like a half barrel. 👍🌱👍
Hi Amanda, the Cox Orange Pippin are classed as being partial self fertile. They don't need a pollinating partner but for a bigger crop they can be cross-pollinated if there's another tree near by👍
I was so pleased when I saw the Cox's Orange Pippin tree in Tesco as I'd been thinking about one for a while but they can be pretty expensive when you get them a garden centre or proper fruit tree supplier. Just have to hope I get some apples from them now😁
@@marksallotmentplot I was doing loads of research over the last week and it sounds like it’s actually hard going to grow apples in Scotland. You need quite specific types and root stocks??

I've been wanting to get that wee bit of the plot sorted for ages and a couple of bargain apple trees were just the job 👍
Great enthusiasm.. Great job.. 👍
Thanks Tony👍

Wow, what an absolute deal on those gorgeous apple trees!! Good size, too!! 🍎☀️💕
Hoping they do well, especially for that price.
Might not get much this year but with a little bit of luck and time we should get plenty of apples 👍
Good choice with the Cox's Orange Pippin, it's my very favourite apple (Raymond Blanc too) ... makes great Tarte Tatin @)
Thanks Kath.

Looks great, nice little fruit area. Looks so much better with wood chip
Thanks Mark.

Sorry to hear about your trees from B&M David.
Hopefully these apple trees will do well but I guess only time will tell on that front.👍

No fruit last year I'm afraid, think the trees were still a bit young and small.
Hoping to get some this year though!

I heard when planting an apple tree to plant a pear tree aswell for pollination is this right?

@@marksallotmentplot Thanks for your reply! How are your plants from last year doing?
Hi Mark, are they self-fertile? I may go up to B & M this week. I only ask as it is a 36 mile round trip for us. Thank you :-D
