Great sound effects! I know that stretch of line from the factory to the mainline intimately - a nightmare - a bad curve, a gradient and wet rails.....Thanks for posting.

A lovely slice if Irish railway history, and thanks for the very detailed description - it really brings the video to life!

Excellent sounds, the 121s are my favourite!

Many nights I shunted the Beet trains in and out of there.

Great video. Your date is wrong though. Mallow closed in 2006.

Love the night scene. Any videos of waggons being unloaded?
Sadly I have personally only observed the Wellingtonbridge end of the operation.

Great video, thanks for uploading it. I love the 121s and 141s, so much charachter and I really miss that sound on Irelands railways. I wonder why they were still using them as late as 2008 for long haul duties though when there were surely plenty of 201s available or even 071s?? Having said that, a 201 hauling the beet just wouldnt make for the same watching as these two do:)

134 is now at Connolly shed, undergoing restoration with RPSI.

Great video, powerful sounds and nice informative description! But why were the 141 and 121 class struggling so much if the wagons were empty, as you say?

Seems to me like they were both powering alright, just had absolutely no adhesion

This made me cringe, i bet the wheels on that 121 needed to go on a lathe after this. I thought there might be a problem with the jumper cables between the two locos but in one shot, the rake is being driven from the cab of the 'dead' loco. It might have had a major fault to have its traction motors cut out. I would add that although it is dead weight, a 121 cant be driven nose end first so maybe the driver had to keep 144 attached.

if the driver had any copon he would have eased of the power to stop the wheels spinnin feckin waster
