BBC Sport's marketing campaign and titles for the forthcoming Olympic Games are based upon the traditional Chinese folklore 'Journey to the West'. The animation and music were specially produced by Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn.

The animation is GORGEOUS! Jamie Hewlett can either have beautiful artwork or grotesque designs with disturbing images. He's a great inspiration either way.

Bashman11 it's not the exact version, but, the original version is called Monkey Bee. The Diplo remix of Monkey Bee is similar to this version though.

Andy Zhang I'm 16 and I've known about Damon and Jamie for a few years now (I was probably around 12 or 13 when I really started getting into Gorillaz,when unfortunately they were on their very long hiatus) but this is the first time I'm ever seeing this and honestly Jamie's artistic direction always blows me away.
Hm, you should watch gorillaz then. Jamie and Damon made this, and Gorillaz. They're a amazing band.
This is my first time seeing this even though I've known Gorillaz since 2001 when I was 10. I've only recently gotten more into them though. Looks like I've missed out on a lot.

I love the scenery, mythological aspect, music, artstyle, animation and consistency too. When I say consistency I mean - Monkey King is always the closest to the goal and it stays like that throughout the video, Pig is always second and the dude that emerged from water is always third, even tho they are competing, they still help each other out in midst of competition, Pig saved Monkey King and then few moments later Monkey King saves Pig, they have respect for each other, and at the end when Monkey King wins... Pig was happy for him and accepted the loss, the other guy wasn't happy cuz he was probably super serious about winning. Good stuff.

Animation looks like a stylistic mix between the Gorillaz music videos and Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The beat reminds me of Fire Coming Out of a Monkey's Head (respectively so, since Damon wrote that too, of course) but stylistically both music-wise and art-wise, it's my favorite part and I find myself always repeating it. It's so mesmerizing from the voice to nice beat to the animation.

To those wondering, yes, this was by Damon Albarn, creator of Gorillaz, look up Jorney to the West, he made the music for the stage adaptation, as well as the accompanying soundtrack.
Olympics are fantastic! Went to the London Olympic this summer and it was the best weekend of my life. Gotta love the BBC intro videos!

This is a pretty late reply, but the pig isn't really a pig. He was once a high ranking general in the heaven but was condemned to be reincarnated as a pig. But since he still possess his former mind, he is in a way considered as a human, if not a beast.

I remember this. I saw it on the BBC in summer 2008 when I was eighteen years old. The animation looks amazing. Hewlett sure did a great job. I really like his cartoons.
