      Might that cause all sorts of shenanigans assuming supes isn't wearing a body suit that filters out red sun? I think it'll be analogous to how red kryptonite causes him random mutations.

    • @Wustenfuchs109
      @Wustenfuchs109 7 років тому +7

      Does it though? One star is lower in the horizon so it would be redder if the composition of the atmosphere is the same as Earth. Maybe it is red, maybe it is just atmospheric scattering.
      And that being said, it is more likely that they are actually the starts of the same type because they look almost the same size - and with stars, size is everything. The size dictates the temperature (color) so if one of them is not going through a red giant phase, they are both yellow (actually white) stars.
      As for the Superman, as far as I could find yellow powers him, red depowers him (actually makes him human), so the debate is not really a thing. Obviously he needs a certain wave length of light to power himself, he is like an antenna tuned to a certain frequency. Red light does him nothing, yellow (more power) fuels his powers. So in a binary system, he would get normal power, unless there is an eclipse. It would be the same as Earth is what I am trying to say.
      All that with consideration that red sun does not depower him, it only does not give him power in the first place. Now, not a big DC person, but that is what I could find concerning a red sun. It is not like red kryptonite but simply not right wave length to power him.

    I have a few ideas on Because Science episodes if you would like to use them:
    1. How does Doctor Strange’s Cloak of Levitation fly?
    2. How does Ant-Man communicate with ants?
    3. How does Iron Man’s Comic Magnetic Repulsors work?
    4. How does the Men in Black Neuralyzer memory wipe?
    5. How powerful is the Noisy Cricket?
    6. How powerful was Golden Age Superman’s Super Leaps?

    I think the sunsets would be even more amazing if we could see Tatooine when it was a lush, beautiful, life giving environment! It used to look a lot like Naboo until the Infinite Empire decided to blast it into glass from orbit. Just imagine the twin suns setting over forests! Waterfalls! Mountain ranges! There'd be a full range of colors that we haven't seen yet!

    Kyle, I highly recommend you read the book "The Three-Body Problem" by Cixin Liu. It's the best science fiction I've ever read, and applies highly detailed, real-world science to a story about humans discovering alien life on a planet orbiting three suns. Would probably make for a good Because Science episode, too.

    • @danilooliveira6580
      @danilooliveira6580 7 років тому +7

      3 bodies are almost never stable. it would have be something like alpha centauri, where Alpha cen A and B orbit eachother, and the much smaller proxima centauri orbit from really far away, and since its much smaller it doesn't have enough force to disrupt the system

    • @delr853
      @delr853 7 років тому +1

      It doesn't need to be stable for very long... imagine being a relatively newly developed life form as one of your suns gets ejected right past your planet, now that shit would be scary.

    • @cyris8400
      @cyris8400 7 років тому +7

      If there were a third sun it would have to either be much smaller and/or much farther away. 3 gravitational bodies of similar mass can't settle into a stable system. One of them either crashes into another or it is slung out of the system. Also the time-scales for this happening would be much quicker than it would take for planets to form and life to evolve.

    • @danilooliveira6580
      @danilooliveira6580 7 років тому +3

      well... technically its possible to be stable. the problem is the old butterfly effect, if the initial conditions are not perfect, the flaws will get more and more accentuated, until the system collapses

    • @jayeisenhardt1337
      @jayeisenhardt1337 6 років тому

      Life on earth, a sun that has the same gravitational pull as it's moon, and a moon that only shows one side to a planet. Yeah must be impossible to some aliens in a galaxy far far away.
      Dunno for sure but heard the number 400 when talking about the sun/moon relationship due to their size and distance from earth. So many thing on earth seem impossible but are, it's like magic we hit the jackpot so often.

  • @frank_av8tor

    This also reminds me of the Asimov story: Nightfall about a planet that is in near perpetual daylight ( 4 suns I think) with nighttime coming just once every 2000 years. The story was later turned into a full book and a movie.

Most shampoos are just straight up bad). Even things such as your diet effects it, if you eat processed foods and toxic GMOs your hair is gonna have problems.

    Another fascinating thing to consider is calendar systems. At its simplest, a binary system with regular eclipses could have the eclipse be the basis of divisions between a full rotation about its own axis and a full revolution about the system, and most likely several different types of days, depending on how many suns were setting at a time.

    When you say that most solar systems are binary, trinary etc., that means most of those we have catalogued, and multiple star systems tend to be brighter and easier to find and categorize.

    If there was a super massive planet... lets say the size of the sun and it was made of something that could withstand its own gravity. (if there is such a material) then could a small star orbit the planet? How different would that be?

    • @cyris8400
      @cyris8400 7 років тому +3

      Conventional solid matter can't hold itself up against a star's worth of mass. The closest thing would be a white dwarf or a neutron star, which are held against gravitational collapse by the degeneracy pressure of electrons (in the case of white dwarfs) or of neutrons (in the case of neutron stars). Humans could not live on such objects though, because of the extremely high surface gravity.

    • @EvilParagon2
      @EvilParagon2 7 років тому +1

      It couldn't work. Stars are hot because of their mass and therefore pressure. Even if you increased the Earth up in size while scaling up the mass (so a star could orbit it) it would melt and shrink back down due to being mostly made of iron, which kills stars in basic terms. Simply gaining mass is enough to turn into a star. You may not be a conventional star that fuses hydrogen into helium but you'll be big, hot and likely shiny.

    • @rebelbeammasterx8472
      @rebelbeammasterx8472 7 років тому +2

      If a planet was made of 'Superstrongium' that has a huge strength than yes, but no such material exists.
      There are close ones though. A Red Dwarf and a massive Gas Giant/Brown Dwarf come close to being as big as their star, though not as massive.
      There's also PSR J1719-1438b, a former star that's now a solid planet weighing at one 1.03 Jupiter masses. It' made of diamond. It's diameter is bigger than the Neutron Star it orbits, but the Neutron star is much more massive.

    • @tiagotiagot
      @tiagotiagot 7 років тому

      I think you could have planets made of iron or heavier elements that are more massive than some stars.

    • @cyris8400
      @cyris8400 7 років тому

      Iron is not very abundant in the Universe, so it would be almost impossible for a Solar mass of iron to be in one place at one time. Unless it was gathered by a very bored advanced alien civilization. And it would still become a white dwarf (or neutron star if massive enough), because the forces that maintain solidity in a normal chunk of metal don't apply when there's that much mass.

From Legends we know that Tatooine was once a lush planet and that it's surface was destroyed to the point of being 'glassed', would be neat to cover that topic, if it's even possible, and if it does just what sort of 'destruction' would cause that ? :D

      Well, if he always comes back then you cannot kill him for good. But you can create a loop, catch-22 like system maybe that always goes in a circle. Or simply make a virus that does not kill him but puts him in a comma or takes his strength away - something that will not actually kill him but make him harmless. I know it is not an answer to the question (you asked for a kill) but when you have undefined topic, that is what you get :)
      For instance, how he comes back to life? Does he regenerate his parts? And many others. But going with only "how to kill something that grows immune to what ever killed him in the first place" this is what you get XD

The star in the front would stay the same color. Not to mention it would affect the color of the sky

      Imagine a blue giant and a red giant together...the eclipse sunsets would be beautiful...of course that situation would be rather short lived but it would still be damned cool. It would also be strange as the blue giant would have to be far younger than the red giant, meaning they must have "met" long after the red giant(which would formerly be more similar to our sun)was formed.
