This is why most bjj schools leave one confused. Oftentimes you are just introduced to random techniques each day without any discussion of the foundational general concepts that are the make the art functional for different folks.

This is so valuable for me as a white belt. I get passed so easily, and now I realise I’m so focused on getting grips that my legs are static.

Beat me to it. 6'4 lanky guy here who gets his legs thrown around like balls at a circus. Great video. Plan on working this ASAP.

@@aUNTGrad Oh so being lanky makes it worse. I always felt like people had an easy time getting around my legs compared now It makes sense. Guess I gotta work on my grips and move faster

Awesome video Jon. Really cool way of explaining things when you talked about how important being able to transition between guards is...depending on what your opponent gives you.

I’ve been struggling with this my training partners keep grabbing a pant grip and circling real quick passing my guard before I can get a grip. Thanks for the video. Your vids are excellent.

When he grabs the pant grips go one foot spider and the other lasso ( on bicep tho not under the armpit) you will get the foot position before you get sleeve grips then keep you heels weighted and it will be extremely hard for him to throw your legs.

If you’re struggling to get a grip (happens especially with panicking beginners) then I would recommend standing back up as it’s much easier to establish grips from standing and then you can re-engage in either pulling guard or trying to get the 2.

Excellent work, Macaroni man, I appreciate you and your content.
Just out of curiosity, do gi grips work on mid-19th century Confederate military uniforms? Asking for a friend.

You don't need any BJJ! You are a top notch champion-level wrestler, skilled at both collar-and-elbow and catch-as-catch-can wrestling, with a super lanky hard-to-deal-with frame, and armed with techniques learned from both the English diaspora and the various Native American tribes. On that note though, I would like to point out that your policies towards Native Americans was awful...
