The Most Aggressive Guard in BJJ

  • The Collar Guard is an absolutely essential guard in BJJ. All Jiu Jitsu matches start with a grip fight to establish position. The collar guard is one of the easiest guards to establish in jiu jitsu. It allows you to transition to so many guards and attacks ( Berimbolo, X Guard, De La Riva, Collar Sleeve), but also you can attack directly from it with Collar Drags, Ankle Picks, Loop Chokes and more. This video I go over the foundations of understanding the position as well as set ups and transitions.

      @@JonThomasBJJ I remember in 1999, I was running a martial arts club in college, and we had the first "theory and technique of BJJ" book by Royler and Renzo and we were excited to be learning out of that. One person reading the description, the other trying to copy the movements and then looking at the picture to see if we were close. Stuff like this wasn't even a dream at that point. Our state didn't even have its first blackbelt until 2006. Thanks for all you share.

  • @slothguard6531
    @slothguard6531 3 роки тому +13

    Great stuff as usual! This is my go-to guard. Two issues I sometimes run into is super athletic dudes will jump to a flying arm bar when my arm is extended, or quick passers will try to grab my knees and do a fast torreando. Is this just me not being aggressive enough/controlling the position?

    • @JonThomasBJJ
      @JonThomasBJJ  3 роки тому +22

      I meant to mention this in the video and just forgot unfortunately. If they try to jump triangle or jump arm bar I can usually feel it coming and I just bring my knee to my chest super fast and it blocks them from being able to get to it. For the Toreando I focus a lot on keeping my top leg really high or even in their bicep at times then try to go from collar drag hard when I take it off
