If you obsess over being creative all the time, you might reach a point where you say to yourself, “I wish I was satisfied with just enjoying consuming these cool creative things and not always wanting to create something.” This has happened to me in the last couple of years. Had a few talks with friends who are always on that creative grind. Some of them feel the same way. If this sounds like hyperbole, I’ve worked as a graphic designer since 2001 and regularly contributed to art shows for a good few years. Put out a few well-received projects on old hip hop message boards. Fun stuff. It’s just burnout at the EOD. When I do personal creative stuff now it’s mostly drawing for fun and I’ve stopped sharing that stuff.

How to collect the info, extract the key insights, organize it so it’s coherent and share it with others. It gives a reason to dive deep into a subject that would have just skimmed over. I wrote a 3 part series writing book summaries, something that is boring to the majority of people but something that I get excited about! Tiago, this is such a well made video with so much value. As a former product manager, I would often say our primary objective is to be the lead translator within an organization. The engineering team can have the most brilliant ideas for example however if it is shared with the sales or marketing teams in the form of a technical specification document, the ideas value is lost because it is never understood. The curation and synthesizing of information to translate to various audiences is a skill that once mastered can lead to monumental successes. Thank you for all that you do!
I'm a nurse trying to create a learning culture at work. This video is timely for me, and I have Austin Kleons book on my Kindle, now I need to re-read it. 😀
I think it's also essential to think about why you do what you do and if the way and medium that you're doing it is aligned with what you want. A couple of years ago there was this rush about having a blog, and it being like a must, for everyone. And it brought some uneasiness about what to do and having the right niche, and all that stuff that brought along the decision-making paralysis when, you know, if you're, say, a writer, you could spend more time writing what you want, sharing it by other mediums, instead of worrying about not being fitting to manage a blog or something like that
I've been researching anything and everything related to content creation for probably at least 8-9 years at this point, and finally starting my own creation journey (casually for the past two years, and I've finally just started taking it seriously the past month or so), and this is by far the best video I've found on it. Thank you for this!
I really like to teach things that I am interested in. I have a whole range of topics that I bounce between. I've always considered that a problem as I don't stay focused on one topic.
I used to blog all the time. Now I have no idea where to go, as nobody read my blog in the first place (but as you say, regardless of how much applause you receive). I think networking, getting my content discovered, is key. But this means doing videos, going on Twitter... and actually, I do prefer writing blogposts. Some mindset shifts in this video are really useful to me. Where to go though, how much should one think about being discovered, how far should one go to get discovered (move platforms? change media?) this is all stuff I'd like to hear from you too, if you continue down this topic.

Inspiring. Enough to push me to take first tentative step from lurker to making a comment. Still a wee way to go to become a creator, thanks for the nudge
I started creating videos for my film business that relate to storytelling and I'm experiencing a lot of what you mentioned that happens in the beginning: Knowing of information, but finding the gaps in the knowledge when I created the scripts. This video was helpful.
Though I know I need to stop consuming (including this video) I’m glad I did because I see I’m on the right path. I discovered I’m a curator and been brainstorming ideas on how to share it with the world ❤
I think something that is hard is that I can agree with everything in the video and still get hung-up on the fact that I fear that I will be bad at curating content and that people will judge me for it and I will have wasted my time. But I really liked the point at the end of the video where you talked about basically posting content mostly for your future self to see. And I think that really resonated with me. I am already taking notes in my second brain and distilling those down. So why not just post them online for my self to see in the future. Now if only I could get the knot out of my stomach and actually do it.....
This is a good point. I also think that you don’t need to get rid of the knot in your stomach in order to start. You just have to force yourself to start, even if you don’t want to. Then it gets better. It never starts without force.
Thanks for this! I've been a consumer of your content for at least a couple years now, but haven't really done much to act on it. I think I feel a bit overwhelmed on where to start. At any rate, your point towards the end about not needing to be an "expert" is helpful. For many years now, I have a particular area of interest that I've felt called to explore and help others to grow in, but I haven't taken any steps (other than face to face conversations when it comes up organically) because I feel like I haven't reached the point I should be at in order to actually teach others. However, seeing this short video inspired me to not only recognize that I don't have to be an expert, but that documenting my own struggles and failures can help others. On a different note, if you haven't already, I'd love to hear your personal thoughts/preferences on consuming entertainment in general and where your limits are. In our culture, it's so easy to do and so desirable, but I recognize that it rarely provides any actual benefit to myself. Sometimes it's a good way to relax and other times I see it as art to reflect on, but ultimately I've really begun to recognize how pointless a lot of it is.
This reminds me of how in Public School, a lot of the essays we would do were responding and reflecting on famous literary works. While I have a lot of critiques of the school systems, I think that practice of curating and crafting arguments with set inspiration was really helpful for me now. Great perspective on getting started!

Do you actually have stock footage of yourself? What a pro. No but seriously taking notes Is like the best thing ever to reflect on what you consume and clarify your thoughts upon reviewing notes. Today I try to carry around a mini notebook to take notes of whatever whenever without going to the process of unblocking my phone and switching apps. If it's important I will digitalize upon review
Thanks for sharing! I first started my second brain system about 2 years ago... and I've done nothing but save content. I struggle with making time to curate. How do you balance all of your interests? I collect stuff but I have no action plans to do something with it.
This is a big video, in that it’s presenting so simply what i know takes a million baby steps. The bottom line however is a more fulfilling aspect of life in the realm of ideas and online engagement. This feels like what the default of social media should be, if we were socialized to treat it as a platform for authentic expression than superficial highlights and sometimes straight up lies.
Tbh I dont know what to include in the second brain. Like some random stuff I learn in the internet. Overall I stop taking notes for the brain and I also dont look over my notes tho. Honestly I dont know where to start..
That's very inspirational! I feel like sharing ideas and putting stuff I'm creating out there that's exactly what I'm missing. Really, hardest thing is to just start and stick to it for some time, because afterwards the momentum takes over and it doesn't require any effort anymore, plus fulfills you. How do I know it? I've been learning programming to become a web dev for 2 years (and I've become the one!), so it's very similar if look at it in terms of habits.
Thank you for the content and the whole concept of a second brain, it is a beautiful system. Oh and good luck with the book that your co-author for, it won't let me pre-order through your link in your Linktree but I will be keeping my eyes out 💯
This video feels hard for me to digest. Am not sure if it is because I knew most of what is in the video, I just feel there is something in the video I need to see and I didn't. Otherwise, this video might not have something new to me. Maybe this is why am confused.
Excellent thoughts! I've been trying to figure out how to best curate for a few years now and this helped me organize some thoughts. Question for you: When curating, is it ever appropriate to share your full collection? Or have you found best results from only sharing what you curate? e.g. Watch 100, Collect 20, Curate and Share 5. Would you ever show the collected 20?
The proportion you show is one of the creative decisions you have to make. It depends on a variety of factors, from the constraints of your medium to how much time you have to work with
I’m not looking for applause. I’m looking to avoid the hate, which seems so epidemic now. Can you keep the haters off my comment feed please? No? Well, then I have a big disincentive to share anything with the world.

Thanks for sharing your idea. I wanted to start sharing my thoughts and learning through content creation long time ago but I haven’t turn the engine on. This video is a sign for me.

I want to be in that 1% of creator internet users.
This was so interesting! I am sure I'm not the only one who thought they had to be an expert to share something. But you have helped me change my mind a bit. Sharing the process can be of great help to someone who is where you were a month ago!
Thanks!
Thankyou for the video,
Your videos are always intentional and give me a drive to keep up on my journey aswell.
Ive read your book and adopted the para method which I have been using on and off but slowly I am building my own vault of informaiton from my findings.
and I too want to create a community that value the same things.
Awesome! Keep it up.
Man, your videos such a gold for me, really. Every single word and reasoning resonates with me so hard. Thank you for that!
Happy to help!
Ótimo conteúdo, Tiago!
Thank you for sharing!
This video is gold! It’s a perfect overview of how I want to spend my time and succinctly addresses my questions of how to implement these ideas. Thank you for posting it!
Awesome! Thank you!
If it's important I will digitalize upon review
this video is gold! thank you for inspiring us with your ideas and making us more free to express what we think and share our interests
Great video! I often think about the balance between consumption and creation.
This is one of those videos that really stared me in the face. Thanks man. I need to dive back in it
Thank you. I needed to hear someone like you.
I really appreciate this video. It is a motivation for me each time i listen to it. thanks
Consice compelling and very useful. Love the format and the editing. Keep it coming!
Much appreciated!
Interesting take thanks 👍
Very inspiring, thank you for sharing your knowledge
This was one of the most helpful and inspiring videos I have watched in a while. Thank you. Now I am off to creating something.
Valeu Tiagão!
I agree, you don't need to be an expert to create content, but it takes expertise to judge the accuracy of that content.
Thank you!
Wonderful, thank you! ❤
Great content !
Fantastic. Thank you.
thank you!!
This is such a beautifully made/edited video!
I just loooooved it ❤
thank you for this confirmation
Excited for this video!
Thanks for this man!
Thank you for the advice poor Elon Musk
Tbh I dont know what to include in the second brain. Like some random stuff I learn in the internet. Overall I stop taking notes for the brain and I also dont look over my notes tho. Honestly I dont know where to start..
Very inspiring ✨
Thank you.
One of the best videos a I’ve seen
Thank you!
Thank you for the content and the whole concept of a second brain, it is a beautiful system. Oh and good luck with the book that your co-author for, it won't let me pre-order through your link in your Linktree but I will be keeping my eyes out 💯
Thank you! Appreciate it. We don't have a publishing date yet for the upcoming book so not available for pre-order yet.
Ah that explains it, thank you for taking the time out to let me know. I look forward to being able to read it when it is available!
i love you thankyou for this
15/5.
great vid
Great ideas.
It always fascinates me how few people show any activity. Even on this video - tens of thousands of views, but only a hundred comments!
Just disable comments?
And here I am again, consuming :)...
TiaGOAT💯
OoooooOooooOoh!!
Is it worth creating if others are too busy creating themselves and no one has enough time to consume your work?
Is all we do just to serve us getting things for our CV? And still not fully convinced that our social media accounts is in that equation.
great video, probably not the first to say this but you look like Ellon Musk :)
Tiago , where can I find more info on the chart graph at 7:02?
