I don't want to quit. I'm just not trying to qualify success by things I may or may not achieve. I'm enjoying the process and I get loads of support from friends and the people at PaFa and UArts. And we have a very robust theatre community here.
Ive gotten alot of roles like music videos, extra work, short films, theater, etc but my mishap is my behavior. I had lost my apartment and my agent due too it.
I found the love for acting on my own so I haven't had much encouragement or approval from the people I needed it from most. But i'm still going after this and seriously altering my life in pursuit of this art. I have taken 3 years of level 1 drama classes, and I have nobody in my life that even thinks about acting. I keep in contact with all my former teachers bc they're the only people I have to get acting guidance from. Needless to say my technique for pursuing this career has more holes than idk something with a lot of holes. Acting is similar to fighting in a lot of ways. But in this case, it's like that fight or flight reaction you get when you know you're about to get in a fight. Well it turns the better my technique gets, the more confidence I have in my hands. I still always have a healthy fear right before any fight but once i'm fighting i'm so calm and focused it's therapeutic. Or I have 0 fear and I can just have fun with whoever i'm fighting. I have a small but amount of acting experience and my technique is trash. But when i'm studying and I start to understand, I see the possibility of success and I start to feel more confident in my ability to get good at this.
I support what you're doing and I'll tell you why. One of the first things I learned about this is that you're supposed to interact with others and network. In a lot of ways it comes down to your mindset. And truthfully it's rare that anyone interacts in the comments in these channels like in other UA-cam videos.
I am completely cursed. I think those of us who have a real life calling and have given it all they had (as a matter of life or death) and still not succeeded have pretty much no choice but feel suicidal for the rest of their life and they just need to learn living with it - even when all their other life aspects are going great - for there is nothing else that will give us that same joy and there is no other outlet for it. Having one's talent not recognised or noticed is the most painful thing one will ever experience.
Hi Anna, I'm very sorry to hear you're going through this. I understand where you're coming from. For me, it was critical to reframe my definition of success. Is success being noticed by others, or is success creating works I'm truly proud of? Some of my most gratifying moments came from creating something that nobody will ever see because I was proud that I had managed to do it. You don't need other people to measure your success. For what it's worth, I think creating even when it's hard is infinitely harder than creating when it's easy, so I think what you're doing is very impressive.
I want to cry while watching this. I've always been so resilient and fearless. Always knew exactly what I wanted and wasn't afraid to go get it. Couldn't care less what people did or thought about me. But oh wow, it's tough..So freaking tough. The worst part for me is not knowing when my "break" will come. When I'm able to live off acting. It's not an ego thing and I know I want to do this for the right reasons, and I can deal with all of the rejections and how brutal the industry can be. What's hard to deal with is life outside of acting. Going to my bullshit survival job week after week just to stay afloat, not knowing what the future will look like, and constantly comparing myself to other (often younger) people who've "made it". I'm definitely cursed, cause I can't quit, but I'm not happy either...Thank you for this video!
Hi Frida, What you're experiencing is so incredibly common, and you're not alone. Though it's hard to put this into practice, remember that comparison is the thief of joy, and you're on your own journey, not anyone else's. Hopefully last night's Academy Awards can provide some inspiration that our dreams truly have no expiration date, even if the road to them is more unconventional that we would've hoped.

Hi there! I am currently in a musical production with a decently big role and really want to quit, what I am worrying about is if I should tell my director and quit or stick it out then quit after. What would your thoughts be on this
Hi, Thank you for your question. Our advice would be, unless there are conditions that make the production unsafe or otherwise unworkable that you should stick it out. Productions require a lot of teamwork, and with all participants relying on each other, it can be a real letdown to drop out. We would recommend doing right by the people who saw fit to cast you in this role and seeing it through to completion. Though as we mentioned, the obvious caveat is if your safety or wellbeing are at risk.
