During the pandemic your channel became a source of peace and happiness for me. I understand a lot of viewers might be sad to see less of the cottage in the coming year or so, that makes sense because your content helped us through some dark times and we're emotionally invested. But I'm excited that you and Romeo can move forward to the next chapter of your lives! It's your life and I'm so grateful you make such pretty content for us! Excited to see what you do in the LA house next, and that blue RL dress is 👌🔥

It seems that your heart is in LA. You just do not have that same zeal for the cottage as you once did. I have observed that you are happier and more into the LA home. We change and there are seasons in our lives when what once brought us happiness no longer brings us excitement. If that is the case you and Romeo have to decide if you want to divide your life between two homes. Big decision because your family is in Texas and his in LA. You have to follow your heart. I guess it is so hard because you have so much of yourself invested in the Texas cottage but in the end it is what brings you joy and peace. You have done so much and learned so many skills from the cottage renovation now you have all that under your belt to do the same to the LA home.

Stepping back can be a good thing. I know that when you're ready, the cottage will be waiting. It amazes me how much you did accomplish when you look back to the beginning. You are an inspiration to many women who have thought about tackling such a project but hesitated and let the doubt creep in. Enjoy your time and when you're ready, we will be here waiting for that stuff too. You're vlogs are about all the facets of your life and we're just happy you let us in. ❤😊

Macenna, what you are describing with your initial reaction to the cottage is definitely a burnout. I'm recovering from it myself, so I watched a ton of lectures about it, and some studies state that burnout and PTSD have common roots. So this overwhelming feeling is your body saying to you to chill and not to start another stressful episode again. I also had the same symptoms. It sucks when it's about your own house, but I guess what you need right now is to show your psyche that cottage is not a dangerous place, it's not only about being exhausted and stressed out. Which is a bummer to me as a viewer, because I love the cottage content, but honestly - I'd rather see you happy and inspired. It may take a longer time (for me it took a year) to recover from burnout, so I'm wishing you to heal at your own pace!

I noticed you have mentioned this topic a couple times so just wanted to comment and say you can definitely grow beautiful gardens in TX. It just takes work and care, just like any other garden in any other state. The person who owned the house before you in CA clearly loved gardening and put in the hours for you to now have a mature garden that probably doesn’t need as much watering now, and is also probably set up on drip irrigation. It seems unfair to compare the two. Plus, the growing zones depending on where you live in both states are similar; if anything TX would be too cold for certain plants that grow in CA, during the winter, rather then too hot.

    • @rneustel388

I moved to Arizona from Pennsylvania three years ago, and I have really come to love a garden that uses less water (the name escapes me at the minute). That type garden wouldn’t be common for that style house, maybe, but it wouldn’t be difficult to keep when they’re away.

    • @Lucinda_Jackson
      @Lucinda_Jackson Рік тому +2

I think she's referring partly to the fact that she won't be there enough to give the constant care. This is a second home, not where they live and in that heat, beautiful gardens can be had, but they require constant attention that she can't give.

I agree with both xeriscaping and water management like drip irrigation. There are beautiful deer and rabbit repelling plants that are also heat resistant. I garden near a wild space in Colorado and my main garden is bordered with what I call stinky and pokey plants. They work great at minimizing wildlife. A good local landscape designer or master gardener could advise you, even using the plans you had done as a guide. Don't give up on the garden!

In a way, MaCenna's life IS about providing content for videos. It's literally her job - what she does for a living to pay expenses just like anybody's job. The lucky thing is that Romeo is working from home a lot, too, so he will likely be a pretty hands-on dad. And they can always hire a nanny for some hours every week to enable them to still do what they need to do. It's no different from returning to work and dropping your child at daycare or hiring a sitter to come in.

    • @dwagnerful

@@Lucinda_Jackson Yes, I know all that, not sure how old you are, how much of life you've yet to experience, but I'm 65, raised a family, worked a corp job 55 hours a week, had a side business, so I can speak from experience. Loved raising a family, but it is a tremendous responsibility and you give up much of your freedom to do things outside the daily tasks to keep everything afloat, with or without a partner's help. Her life WILL change and that's ok, and it's a beautiful thing. If her video content changes, or she decides to pursue different venue, that's ok. MaCenna spoke at length about experiencing burnout on renovation projects and she's not a mother yet. I'm sure she will continue to provide content for videos as a mother and continue her channels, podcasts, social media, etc., but the struggle will be real. I'm just saying change is inevitable and that's ok...

It's just too long through the body. Try it on and then lift your shoulders up to your ears and it will look perfect. It's simply too long-waisted. A belt with the dress worn with the top in a slight blouson, would adjust the proportions and put the waist of the dress at her waist and align the hips as well. Perfect fit!!

I know in the past I’ve wanted to see something worked on and the finished product shown, quite quickly. But then so disappointed when there was nothing left to watch. So please take your time and stretch it out as much as possible. 😊

Ok massive tip for France! I’ve just been to Paris and I found this amazing. I can’t remember if you went to see Monet’s water Lillie’s last time (at the l’orangerie) but if you go this time, take your phone and earphones with you. They are supposed to be viewed in silence to get the full effect but with the number of visitors the gallery is still pretty noisy. To help with this I put in my noise cancelling earphones and then put on Debussy’s Clair de lune and then his reverie L. 68: reverie. Massive game changer. The combination was so beautiful I nearly cried. It just makes the whole experience so serene and beautiful and special. I highly, highly recommend. Also BOOK A TICKET before you go (and for anywhere else you want to visit) - the queues are massive. 😊

The blue dress is stunning on you, perfect size to just graze your shape, have lace stitch across the neckline, the red skirt set (in my opinion) does nothing for you. Perhaps it’s the colour. The blouses are gorgeous and great finds.

While gardening is different in Texas I think you could definitely use drip irrigation and some native plants to create a different kind of beautiful lush garden space in Texas. I also think soring renovations in Texas sound like the way to go. Better weather, the season of reblooming and growth seems poetic. It's so necessary to take a break we'll be here when you're able.

MaCenna, I love that you're taking this summer to slow down & prepare for your family's future. I can't tell you enough how much this community appreciates the frequency in which you post to your vlog, renovation, & podcast channels. I can only imagine how busy this content keeps you! Sometimes I get sad thinking there may come a day when you announce that you're stepping away from creating content, even if you continue to renovate the properties in TX and L.A. You have been a major inspiration, & as my husband & I prepare to purchase our first home, I cannot wait to use the lessons you've taught me, one room at a time! Thank you for your transparency & for including us in your journey, & most importantly, thank you for being you! ❤️

I found you during the pandemic when all of us were very low. I stayed bc I'm living for all of this. I love the cottage reno videos love them, but I'm also loving all the California updates. I can't wait for your kitchen cabinets to get painted and get new hardware 😂😂 why? I honestly don't know but you've created a monster lol. I stared a small landscaping job with my husband and had to put the breaks on it bc it's way harder than you make it look. We're renting a tiller and should be easy after that. I would never have tried that if it weren't for your channel. I also sanded, stained, and protected some picnic tables we had and brought them back to life thanks to this channel making me believe it was a doable project, lol. Hats off to you 🍻🍻🍻

You can totallly have a garden like you do in California in Texas, you just need to put in the work the previous owners did for your CA garden for your TX one. Like irrigation for when your away to water but we actually have similar growing zones, you would only need to watch cold hardiness here in TX vs CA! Deer can eat your plants here in TX but they won’t ruin your entire garden and they’re are deer resistant plants to keep them away!

Beautiful vlog again as always! All the clothing items were gorgeous and the blue I absolutely love on you. A belt or beautiful scarf at the waist could be used if you feel it was too big but also could be used for a early maternity dress if and when that time should come. ;-) I think it fit you well and just enough room but not too much. I think that neckline on you was extremely attractive. Whomever owned those items had exquisite taste indeed! You wear your clothes well so no worries on that. You and your mother are very stylish and can wear just about anything you like. You're fortunate in that. Wonderful informative video. I am so excited for your trip to Europe. So exciting!

If I could say for now keep the cottage and do things slowly n bit by bit ,to get the ability and personal need to slow down a bit but still have your creative outlet . I moved to North San Antonio area October 2020. A garden can definitely work here! You must amend the soil bc it's mostly rock/clay, use drip/soaker hose on a schedule, have a fence, and work with a landscaper/knowledgeable nursery. Rainbow gardens is great, but there are a few others on the west side too.

With the blue dress, you could turn it around so that it has a boatneck in the front and a v neck in the back. I do that all the time and as long as the tag isn’t visible you can never tell it wasn’t designed that way. the V in the back feels very elegant and I get compliments every time I do this. Hope this helps you! You’re an amazing person, thanks for all the work and detail you put into your channels 🥰
