This year Spain is sending a masterpiece. In my country we call this music art and we go to opera house or theaters to appreciate it. In flamenco and bulerias the voice is the most important with the rhythm of the claps. I hope the european young generation would learn about this music and appreciate it.

Fun fact: the videoclip and the scenario are inspired in Lorca's work. Lorca is one of our most important authors, who described Southern Spain with symbolical words and references such as: the blood-the red-the passión, the plot love-death, the moon, the tradition, the passion, etc. So, for many of us, this is like a whole theater .

"eaea" is what our mothers sang whispering when they tried to put us to sleep in their arms with a slightly fast rhythm, movement and taps, as the song rythm.

Well… what can I say… your feelings are also mine. But what intrigues me in your case is your ability to capture the magical message that Blanca Paloma transmits without knowing the language, without speaking Spanish... since the lyrics of the song pave the way to understand the scenic imaginary through which the performance takes place. Details of the text:
1) The song is built on the following elements: Love of a mother for her baby, fear for the future of her child in a harsh and hostile world, expression of the constant desire to protect him, even if we know that it is impossible because the mother will be missing one day, metaphors about the stages of life and feelings.
2) The song is based on a lullaby and a kind of flamenco rhythm called "bulería". Symbolic scenic elements and hypnotic sounds were used, supported by the female voices of the background choir and percussion with atavistic resonances. Symbols and characters from the poetic universe of Spanish poet Federico García Lorca are also used.
3 ) Metaphor of the lunar cycle: the moon is used as a metaphorical element of life. The moon witnesses the sleepless nights during which the mother comforts her child. The moon will always be present, even when the mother is absent. Thus, the mother expresses the wish to merge with the moon so that she can watch over her child even when she is dead. "All nights but one" refers to the new moon (the moonless night) and is a metaphor for death and the painful reality that it will be impossible to always be there to protect the child.
4) Neither the child nor the moon are shown directly and obviously in the scenography: a) the moon is shown by the projection of a circular projector seen from a zenithal plane and b) reference to the child is always made in an indirect and symbolic way, showing for example the heartbeat, the birth canal, etc. (and also by the use of the red color of the blood and the heart)
5) "The tears of the Nile". The allusion to the Nile has two meanings: On the one hand, it expresses the many tears that are shed (to cry a lot means "to cry a river"), on the other hand, it is a metaphor of Lorca alluding to the gypsies. All European languages show a misinterpretation of the origin of the European gypsies: they were wrongly believed to have come from Egypt.
6) Metaphor of the warrior woman: Blanca Paloma's clothing has features inspired by a breastplate and protections typical of the archers and warriors of classical antiquity. This is a way of allegorically conveying the wish to obtain strength to protect her son. The gesture of shooting arrows is also a kind of personal signature of the singer during her appearances.
The overall result looks like a warrior moon goddess descended from Olympus to watch over a son in danger.
Yes, this is not a simple song or a "Eurovision song", but it is art in its purest and truest form.

Como español, solo puedo decir que cuanto más escucho y veo los vídeos de "Ea Ea" más me gustan. Es su poesía, su musicalidad, la representación visual y su emotividad lo que me enamora. Si el mundo es sensible, España ganará en las votaciones, jejeje. Y si no, los que sean sensibles habrán ganado unos momentos excepcionales, sin duda. Yo estoy tranquilo pues este año también mandamos un producto de calidad y eso es señal de cariño a Europa. Y quizá este año también al menos nos sintamos reconocidos. As a Spaniard, I can only say that the more I listen and watch the "Ea Ea" videos, the more I like them. It is his poetry, his musicality, the visual representation and his emotionality that make me fall in love. If the world is sensitive, Spain will win in the votes, hehehe. And if not, those who are sensitive will have won some exceptional moments, without a doubt. I am calm because this year we are also sending a quality product and that is a sign of affection for Europe. And maybe this year too at least we feel recognized. the figure of the archer is the alter ego of Blanca Paloma. She has been using that pose in her performances since last year. In the staging of this song it can have many meanings, for example, that of a warrior, because in the live show she was dressed as a warrior (with a minimalist armor and the archer's arm).

Even for us spanish speaker The song is so deep meaningfull, The most beautiful part of the song is " My child when I die, bury me at the moon, so I can see You every nigth, except one" making referenses to the "new moon", in spanish is more poetic , no one can make a precises translation, this is a pieces of art so Big like a symphony

This song is a song to motherhood from prehistory to the present day. Blanca fuses flamenco with electronic rhythms in a unique way. The costumes and staging turn the song into a 3-minute movie. I hope he stays in the top 5 and, if possible, that she wins.

@@ricklowe2994 Blanca is really amazing.. She is the person we are most fascinated with in this years ESC. Her soul and energy is nothing short of mesmerizing, and for that we hope she will win to. Virtue always plays out it´s part in the ESC, and so we think Blanca might have a fear chance. But thank you so much for sharing your honest opinion! It´s totally fear to cheer on a song that's not your cup of tea. This is not a song we would listen to on a daily basis, but the performance is pure art and so powerful that it leaves us with a strong emotional reaction every time we see it.

I find it surprising that so far no analysis of Blanca Paloma's song has addressed the obvious pink elephant in the room. Worldwide, red is associated with women's menstruation and white with semen. If we read the lyrics of the song, Blanca plays with a multitude of symbols that represent feminist empowerment, not to mention the erotic implications. A child is the result of a process that cannot be separated from sexuality, and it is right in front of the audience. Nothing in Blanca's show is coincidence, and we hope that those who have seen a ritual in the song will now see beyond the red curtain.
The symbolism of the colors red and white in relation to sexuality and menstruation is a topic present in various cultures and religions.

Thats a very interesting question. Taking this seriously, I (Maria) don't think all woman will, but all probably could in the right circumstances and mindset. But I think a lot of woman will be having an unexpected and strong reaction to this while watching it in Liverpool. I hope that will be highlighted in the social medias in the afthermath if that's the case, that would be an interesting phenomenological study for sure. What do you think?
The problem with this song is that it doesn't get the attention of people at first listen and Europe are not going to appreciate it.

We believe intuitives (N) from MBTI if interested, will be able to understand this at first listen and grasp what it is about as the topic and energy portrayed is universal, but it will also go over the heads and hearts of many, but a lot of people in Europe will for sure appreciae this at first listen as we did (with little experience with this type o music from before). If you liked this song I suggest you react to Terra by Tanxugueiras. It was the absolute fan favourite last year in Spain's festival, although the jury made SloMo by Channel to win. Eaea is folk music from the South of Spain, and Terra (which translates as Earth) is folk music from a region in the north of Spain and gives off similar vibes but through a very different music style ^^
