    When she says "you wanna see my dance?!" I was like "omg yes queen I wanna see you dance" 😂 I was so hyped, I don't care if people find this obnoxious, I think this is fresh and fun, I so hope we get an amazing dance break at Eurovision. I'll have to look into her other songs, Israel always have such high production behind them. They usually always impress me

    Noa is at this moment the best dancer in this year, the song I think is made to the performance (the dancebreak at the final is the best example) and has elements to be a tiktok friendly song (is gonna be phenomen, phenomen, phenomenal)

    The song uses the unicorn as a metaphor for individuality, thus she is on a different plain than, say, the orchestra. The last part reminds many of Chanel, but it is also connected to Feker Libi by the same creator, Doron Medalie. There, the last part is also injecting extra energy using a new theme. Thanks for your take, Tom.

    • @pahakuutti
      @pahakuutti Рік тому

      It's not original tho, while singing about a Unicorn. Estonia's Merlyn had a song with the exact same "U-Ni-Corn" line, in her song Unicorn Vibes.

    • @avnerkam
      @avnerkam Рік тому

      @@pahakuutti fair enough, but the approach is very different. Merlyn is all candy color, singing "Let’s fly with Fairytale Lines". Noa is in your face, "all alone". As Tom mentioned, people expected rainbows but Noa served surprises.

    There is A LOT going here... I'm not really sure what it's all about or whether I actually love it, but it certainly grabs my attention. She seems very charismatic, her styling gives me strong Rosalía vibes, her dance break channels Chanel. I think I will need to see this live, it seems to be made for that purpose (which is pretty clever since in the end it's all about the live isn't it?)

      We need to see how she performs this life. How she sings and dance at the same time. There's a structure difference between Slomo and Unicorn: Slomo's bridge was the dance break. Chanel had to sing (and dance) the final chorus after the dance break, while in Unicorn the "dance break" is just after the actual song's bridge after which Noa and the backing singers only have to shout "unicorn" 4 times.

    Funny this Tom
    Noa is an amazing artist.......the video is lush....the vocals are excellent and the dance break will be amazing on the Liverpool stage...........but the song just doesn't do it for me!
    Can't explain it tbh. The overall package just doesn't stir any emotion in me. Music is so subjective, isn't it?
    La Zarra has me instantly gripped, even though i hardly understand a word, whereas, i understand everything Noa says but it leaves me cold. Go figure!!
    Will this qualify?.....yes probably.

    I love the video. It's so visually appealing, but once you get past the video and just listen to the song, you realised that theres a lot crammed in to this franken-song!
    There are some amazing elements and some not so successful elements.....its more the disjointedness of the elements that is the issue for me. That said, its not unlike the disjointedness Israel are known for with their songs because they throw so many ideas at one song that it feels like many many songs stitched together. Aside from that, I do like it and she's clearly an accomplished performer. Very charismatic and she moves incredibly well. If Loreen makes it through to represent Sweden and everyone makes it through to the final, we'll have a real battle of the solo females on our hands. Sweden, Norway, the UK & France all coming with big hitters!

    "Unicorn" has also VERY meaningful lyrics! (This is my take as an Israeli, but as it is a work of art, it is open to different interpretations, so yours is valid as well! :))
    Here are the main points to understand:
    The song is about the relations between Israel (The "I" in the song) and those who perceive her wrongfully as their enemy (The "You").
    To all her neighboring countries, Israel stated time and time again "We are not your enemy!" (In the song "No, I'm not your enemy")
    Also, the fact that the Jewish ppl are originated from ancient Israel ("Do you want to check my DNA?"), and not a colonial foreign power, as falsely accused by its enemies.
    As you may know, There is a vicious cycle of violence going on in our region for more than a century that we must break and change ("History caught in a loop, Don't you wanna change it?"), cause Israel is attacked time and time again ("If you're gonna do it, don't do it", ) and is forced to respond.
    The music also contains elements of the Israeli national anthem - called "Hatikva" - The hope. One of the symbols of Unicorns is Hope and Success, and also strong healing powers.
    Notice also the colors in the Music Video, they are very meaningful as well! The ceiling is all-red, she wears all-black (Symbols of violence and grief) and switches to colorful outfits when she sings the Unicorn parts from black & white - Those parts represent the hopeful and successful future ("That I won't look back, I won't look down, I'm going up").
    The fact that it's all upside-down! (Not a normal reality) They are all very symbolic!
    Hope all this helps to clarify the lyrics. 😊

    In an earlier video you said that Eurovision could sell tickets for just the second half of the first semi, and they would be in high demand. Now only Sweden and Azerbaijan are the only unknown, and you are absolutely right!
    Israel can probably avoid getting labelled as the lesser Chanel (and thus fewer points) through staging concepts beyond the dance break, it can also chip away some points from Norway (same theme, but more creative however Norway should slay vocally to compensate that). Definitely a great addition to the competition!

    I have a bit of a headache after this one. It definitely feels like they put together 3 or 4 songs into one. Some of the transitions are quite jarring and it was heavily inspired by K-pop which I don’t like.
    But people saying that this won’t qualify are just delusional. Straight men also watch Eurovision and I mean come on - she’s a gorgeous woman with abs dancing in most likely skimpy clothes. She is also a great singer (much stronger than Chanel or Eleni) and will absolutely nail the choreography.
    The Israeli delegation allegedly invested a million dollars into this selection, more than any other country this year, so I’m sure they have an epic stage show ready.

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  Рік тому +10

      hmmmm its a really tough one to react to in fairness. cos the song is REALLY unexpected and you want to be very sure of yourself if youre going to slam & criticise an entry on your very first listen, especially after its been SUPER hyped.
      youd usually be comfortable doing that after listening to a standard song where you get to hear the verse+chorus twice, so you can be quite sure you dont like it. but With this one, it just keeps jumping over the place, so its harder to be sure of what you think about it.
      I think the key points from me were when i said that i wouldnt download it, but i think its music meant to her live peformance which will elevate it.

    I've never heard of her before, so my opinion is not in any way influenced by her celebrity status.
    Judging by the video, she seems like a great dancer and, at the very least, a competent singer. Unfortunately, there is nothing else about this that appeals to me.
    The song is disjointed to the point of sounding like a recap of the Israeli NF that never was. It's as if they had ten songs to choose from but couldn't make up their mind, so instead they decided to send all ten of them in the form of a seemingly neverending song mashup.
    From this category, I prefer the UK's entry in every single regard. The UK will probably end up somewhere between the 15th and 20th place in my rankings-relatively low because I don't enjoy listening to this type of music, but not too low because it competently accomplishes what a "girly bop" should do. Israel, however, is going straight to my bottom ten.
