"Remembering the 39 that ascended to the Next Level, now 20 years ago. Inspired by Heaven's Gate, the video proposes the idea of 'what if they actually ascended?' and is a faithfully accurate rebuilding of the infamous infinity projection shot that frames Marshall Applewhite in one of his final address speeches regarding their imminent exit to the "Next Level"."

moving into 2024 and still jamming this masterpiece
I just discovered it today on my play list randomly tween “the mars Volta” songs, OMJ FREAKING BRILLIANT ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Same bro. I seen them this year opening for Slowdive. Never really heard of them before but after the concert I was in love with them. Huge fan now!!!!!
I'm a straight up metalhead and I'm obsessed with this. The dark atmosphere is amazing.
Dido
Semenofthefall dude fucking same!
Semenofthefall that's funny, I got into this band by watching an interview of a metal band where they praised this album
saaaame
Same here, love goth/dark wave shit too, also i like the opeth joke account name lol
As an 80s kid this is like a second childhood.
Fucken A
Your comment made me happy. And I was born in 1990.
I haven't been this giddy about a band since I discovered the Cure in the 80s.
It's like The Cure and Flock of Seagulls had a kid.
yes sir, I feel exactly the same
This is legitimately the best piece of music I've heard in my entire 44 years on this planet. Goosebumps everytime.
Word.
Joshua Decker sure..
It gets better with time, I haven’t listened to it since last fall and I’m surprised at how it engages me now, it’s cleanness is unparalleled.
Agreed.
❤💃❤
I'm so pleased that they also casted our old white garden chair.
As an 80s child,... absolutely approve.
Drab Majesty the celestial Goth boyz.
Easily they are
💕💕✨✨✨✨
Their stylistic genius is immense. How are they not one of the biggest bands in the world?
this song is a gate to heaven
Really dig the Heavens Gate Cult references.
it's a recurring thing through the album. it's really cool to listen and catch them.
Yes !
@Orderofthewhitestar been listening to them for a couple months now but earlier today when one of their songs came up I decided to search deeper into dm. Couldn't go to sleep so I've been looking around watching all their stuff from years ago and looking for the messages of each song. I have an even bigger appreciation now.
Did you see the members list at the end of the video?
How so? Can you explain me that?
I was obsessed with heavens gate as a kid and fascinated by ufos and all. This band is by far my favorite band and the fact they covered this subject is eerie
In high school in the 90s I had a band called phenobarbital (seems pretty cringe now), that was entirely themed and influenced by Heaven’s Gate. Literally, the cover to the tape we put out had 39 black boxes on it. God, that’s embarrassing to admit, hadn’t thought of that in a while, lol.
The Demostraron is the most beautiful thing Heaven’s Gate brought to earth!
Marshall Applewhite used to teach at the school I work at and every year there’s a new wave of kids who learn this information and become obsessed 😅
I'm completely obsessed with this song.
me too!!!!
Me too man this is so fucking good and fresh!
Me too!!!!
Try the non album version of ‘Not just a name’. My god that song is complete perfection
Drab Majesty is a very Special band. They have tapped into the Spiritual element that exists in all of us.
Pen15 @@Meshuggapeth
You got that right 👍
Appreciate that modern bands like Drab Majesty is bringing back the 80s synthwave music. Plus, they totally nailed and it sounds so accurate as though its legit that this song sounds like from the 80s.
It’s Neo- Goth Not synth wave
@@judahjodah508 Neo not. It's not goth
@@judahjodah508this is definitely synthpop. Just check out the songs made by New Order and depeche mode then you’ll understand why
@@jebclang9403it is goth actually.. im goth and my dad is goth and we both listen to it..
Yo diría que este dúo estaría dentro de la Darkwave, atmósferas oscuras, sonidos abstractos... Están más cerca del gótico que otra cosa.
Knowing the meaning of this song - Heaven's Gate suicides - it's incredibly powerful and very very sad. You're right Deb, it really doesn't make a lot of sense.
So much of the album is about those people, but this track holds the biggest emotional punch of all of them.
Gave me the damn willies
I read the article about heavens gate the whole cult suicide was strange for sure all for the comet hale bop passing over earth
Lyrics:
When you walked alone to leave
your life at home
You really wanted to die
And if you hoped to hold the key
to eternity
You really wanted to die
Can’t count your blessings
saying goodbye
Did you really watch
your desires resign?
In the case of a wandering eye
And when you fell to Earth and
lost the love to love
You really wanted to try
Can’t count your blessings
saying goodbye
39 by design
Did they beam you up
into the lights in the sky?
If you could take a polaroid
of your life, would you cry?
Would you make them stare
into the whites of your eyes?
(Eternal point of view)
And when you came to turn the
hands on the sands of time
You really wanted to die
And then you showed them
how you felt
It was so hard to break the spell
You just wanted to die
Can’t count your blessings
saying goodbye
Really just a roll of the dice
When truth or lies
will make you cry
Really doesn’t make a lot of sense
Too tense to recompense
Really just a roll of the dice
When truth or lies
will make you cry
Really doesn’t make a lot of sense
The end we’ll all be cleansed
👍👍👍👍👍👍
When is whirr coming back
dANGIT Bobby
Thanks Bobby Hill!!!
the lights in the sky were the Phoenix lights that happened a week apart from the mass suicide! @_@
It's criminal they're not more well known. This is sublime. Each song is better than the last somehow.
It seems like they're starting to get up there more recently. They played a show in Atlanta a few months back and like several of my friends, who didn't even know each other, were posting photos from it.
what genre would you place this in
?
shoe gaze?
@@robinsss yea. Darkwave or shoegaze.
@@robinsss 80s revival
Hello from 2021, this is beyond criminal these view counts. I'm appalled I was not here earlier espically working in music. When this band popped up on my Spotify I assumed they were brand new and my jaw dropped they are not huge. This is an amazing aesthetic.
Brilliant. Thank you for the demonstration.
this is so ridiculously good i have the chills
leeder right?? All their songs are that way for me!
leeder I came collecting more chill.
I've been obsessed with this song for a solid year now.
Same
My cousin was buried in Malcolm's burial plot in Corpus Christi. He died in he same week and his family sold my Uncle the plot at Sea Side Memorial. This happened when I was in 7 the grade and I always held on to this fascination to Heavens Gate hitting so close to home. This song is one of my most favorite songs ever.
Finally at a million views!!! So glad I've been here watching from 30,000s
I could melt right now and disappear forever...
I just found out about heaven's gate because of this song. I can't explain how DRAWN I am to this case combined with this very very addiccting song. I wonder how desperate those people were. It's ALL so very curious, obscure and still addiccting. I CAN'T get enough of this song. I am obsessed with both. I've got such a weird feeling about It all. It's like they are calling me
They were the last band I saw before the lockdown . It went out with a full moon.
I'm going on 55 this month and this is just bloody brilliant. I can't describe how much I love this, how it makes me feel and what it makes me think. It's so original, yet speaks from a time already lived.
To me, this embodies the darker/more thoughtful edge of the 80s and 90s that never quite made it through the tidal wave of crap-pop that emerged as a reaction to the starkness of the 1970s.
Thank you Dais Records - you have a gem in Drab Majesty and I can't wait for more of this amazing act.
Hi Shaun, great comment, totally concur, I am 52 and it's like they have opened an aural wormhole to the 80s. Didn't think it was possible, but they are surely channeling. And it's great. It's like the 80s spiritual music ripple has reached us again. Strange but exhilarating. Let's have more.
@@8thTower Thank you friend - such is the power, I still revisit here from time to time. It seems that the old - really doesn't get old. A conundrum I know, but it's what makes great bands like DM resonate so well. Peace.
I'm 52 also....yup they have captured the 80s
В России есть поговорка - " всё новое - забытое старое " .... однозначно , музыка 80-90 - ых вернётся ...
I am including myself as I say this, in today's globalised world with its exceedingly fast distribution of bad news - deaths, catastrophes, murders, and so on - people tend to lose sensibility and empathy.
I am thankful to Drab Demure for reminding me of my humanity.
The word "obsessed" does not even begin to describe how I feel about Drab. I'm so glad I got to snag a picture and chat with Deb Demure. He is so cool and extremely talented. ❤
omg same here. i never heard of them until i saw them open for cold cave last weekend. i was hypnotized during Drab Magic's entire set.

It's never ok to die...
+GoreGothSam: Sin duda concuerdo con tu comentario, y que afortunada fuiste al conocer al gran enigma quien ciertamente es el Sr. Deb Demure!
Extremely talented group. Super reminiscent of 80's synth wave, but very unique sound. These guys just keep cranking out hits!
I just watched a documentary on the Heavens Gate suicides and after seeing Applewhites final video I'm like...Drab? Now I understand this song/video. You guys are absolutely amazing.
Now this is true modern goth music, not that Marilyn Manson stuff. 😭🖤 love you Drab!
Stop fcking liking this music cause they wear goth attire holyshit, like the music for the music lol. I’d still love these guys if they fucking dressed up in suits
Marilyn Manson is industrial...
Sabina Sas Marilyn Manson never made goth music. More of Industrial Metal
Nothing triggers people into "goth" music more than Marilyn Manson.
How does a band that's irrelevant to goth make people so mad. Lol
@@michaelking2857 Like Cocteau Twins, Joy Division, ASF and Martin Dupont. It's the sound not the fashion. Check out a 1982 "Goth" at a Bauhaus concert. The fans wore Pink, suits and tons of other handmade DIY and colorful things. People focus too much on defining Goth on the bands alone when the bands reject being called Goth.
My musical obsession for the last couple of years...
Having an eargasm, knowing the 80's is making a comeback.
I remember the Heaven's Gate suicides. Happened just fifteen miles or so from where I lived at the time, here in San Diego County. I wept when I learned what happened, and what they believed they were doing. Those poor, confused, desperate souls.
Great track, by the way. Love it.
I can identify completely. I lived in Encinitas at the time. I remember feeling the same way about it. But I really hope they died feeling hopeful. Excited about a great trip they had planned! :-)
I was living in San Diego in March 1997 & I remember seeing the Hale-Bopp comet. But for some reason, I don't remember hearing about this story.
Milo Cooper is this what the song is about?

how does he accomplish to bring me back to 1981, even if he wasnt even born back then???
the "are you afraid of the dark" font of 39 by design at the beginning is a nice touch!
I get the sense that D.D. had a certain understanding of the condition that Heaven's Gate cultists were under, a compassionate one, one which recognized the genuine spiritual aspiration at play. Enormous power in this song.
wow mind blown. this track is perfection
This should be 10 million views
This band has been my new obsession this year, they can do no wrong, perfection!

You've got good music taste for a 6 year old, 😆
Heaven's Gate! Lovely song!
Possibly the best video on youtube
Omg I was totally getting Heavens Gate vibes from this. I cant believe I was right.
I love this group omg
I CAN NOT STOP WATCHING THIS VIDEO
Me too. especially around 4.00 with the guitar and all. So fucking epic
It never ceases to amaze me just how 80's this is. I mean right down to the often awkward acting, and strange camera angles.
one of the best synthwave tracks of the modern age
New favorite Drab Majesty song. SO good.
Some details in this video you may not have noticed: In the beginning of the video the character wearing glasses has a purple cloth pulled over his face and then bolts upright appearing to gasp for breath -- like he'd been holding it. The 39 people who died did so in stages with those that died later putting a purple cloth over the faces of the people dying before them (except for the last two). Also, they tied a plastic bag over their own head after ingesting sedatives to ensure that they would asphyxiate after falling asleep.
I can’t stop listening to this song. Once I read these comments and found out what the actual lyrics were about…boy did it bring me down a rabbit hole!
I was already in love with Drab, then I found out Deb was fascinated by other worldly cults like heavens gate.... Their music and imagery reflects the beautiful strangeness of the unknown world like no other band... i want to cry
I wonder what he thinks about The Tempel OV Blood/ Atomic Waffen, Order Of Nine Angles and post apocalyptic satanic vampiric cults
ua-cam.com/video/fYWZdq51opk/v-deo.html this is a very secretive meditative about the old Order Of nine Angles and not the edgy punk millennials.
bunch of cunch I feel ya. Same.
@@DCM88 Those cults are hateful and want to hurt people, so I doubt he'd be into it. Drab are sweet boys.
So to be more precise... the "gothic" genre is about what Victor Sage calls the "dark epiphany," which focuses on the sins of the past, and on the evil things that people do with power. And there is usually a measure of terror and horror at these tragedies, one or the other, and sadness. That's very different from being in a hateful cult that takes pleasure in hurting people. That is not a good thing, and it's very sad to see people sanctioning things like that in this day and age. If you take my advice, I wouldn't dabble in things like that.

Violence, destruction and sacrifice is something that all of us will experience in our causal lives.
This is my most loved band, ever.
Song is fucking haunting
This was my first song I listened to from Drab Majesty. I somehow had some familiarity with the subject matter. I know about the Heaven's Gate incident as a child in the 90s because I've always have been interested in the paranormal in general.
This is extremely original due to the fact that I don't truly see much music about stuff like this. Cool sound btw.
I love the VHS reconstruction of Applewhite sitting in the plastic chair. His videos and writings are one hell of a ride. Great video and artist!😊
3 years now listening to this masterpiece, it never gets old and never will...the perfection of the atmosphere, melody and sounds resonates deep, like living in an 80s realm I know I’ve never lived and never existed but still it’s too damn real to be just an illusion if that makes sense. Love and respect to Drab Majesty.
Born in the tail later years of the wonderful 80s decade, I can still respect the appreciation! Wish I was born in the 70s. Early 90s had some amazing music too. Later 2000s really disappointed hard. We need to revive emotion in our music...wet ass something (WAP) is just gross and not very resonant with deeper emotion of the nation.
same! i can't get tired of them, this album especially is wow! the atmospheres are so dense, almost like you could touch them in every track!
love the alien concepts too!
This whole album is fantastic, but this is my favorite song on The Demonstration. 10/10
This and Behind the Wall
My dream job is to be a Drab Majesty shadow dancer.
Had the pleasure to host DB for a show in Italy last year. This band left me speachless and I couldn't do without their music from then. Unique.
Just discovered this band. Love it
Outstanding stuff from Deb 🖤
HEAVENS GATES
Haven’t heard this years… so good to come back
This song and video makes me feel like my previous life was someone in the 80's who died in a car accident while listening to this song even though it wasn't released yet
I just read about the Heaven's gate cult and Marshall Applewhite, these people didn't deserve to die but i thank drab majesty into taking us to an imaginary case of "what if they did go to where they were promosed?"
Smooth, reminds me of 80s music. Real music.
80s vibe in the song and video are super on point. Love it!!
Having been born in 86, I didn’t get to truly experience the magic of the 80’s. I can’t thank Deb and Mona enough for giving me the opportunity to experience such an oddly nostalgic feeling for a time I didn’t get to experience in a truly meaningful way. I can remember being a young child in 1990 and hearing Enjoy the Silence blasting from my big sister’s room and loving it. How my sister must have felt to have a synth wave group like Depeche Mode to fall in love with, I now have the same in Drab Majesty. Thank you Drab Majesty for making the 2020’s the 80’s I never got to experience. I’m eternally grateful. 👽💜
This is 80s music on steroids trust me I'm an 80s child and I approve

What a great song from a magnificent album. Gives me chills every time.

so glad i discovered this artist
I keep coming back to this video because it's so beautiful, and honestly such a beautiful tribute to the lives lost to Heaven's Gate. Deb Demure is an absolute masterpiece of an artist.
Thank you UA-cam algorithms for suggesting this masterpiece

Instantly, I am immensely submersed into a hypnotic state of mind in this wave of pure blissful sounds!
God, this band is so incredible. An anecdote to the poison of the post millenial music industry.
Antidote
I love how they embodied the sentiment around Heaven’s Gate. Sadness for the families of the 39. But also a sense of empathy and compassion for people who followed their convictions via ritual. That’s not to romanticize what happened either. Like the song embodies everything. Humans have sought answers for as long as we’ve existed. “Eternal point of view”…
This is f****** mesmerizing...this song, cold souls and not just a name has been my poetry inspiration on my ig.
This is the best music i've come across in the last 25 years. It slowly tears the soul from you, rips it apart and pieces it back together💞
