I’ve just discovered your channel and you are great. What a lovely speaking voice, and you get to the point, no waffle. I watch a lot of fashion videos and you are refreshing. Much of the advice is the same but just presented differently. I’m just going to stick to two now and you are one of them. Can you please do a hair and makeup video, as many women over fifty continue with their long hair and colour, and harsh eye makeup, when I think it’s time to soften things as our skin changes and hair goes through transition. Thank you
Hi Rosemary and welcome to my channel. Thank you so much for your lovely comments. It's wonderful to be so appreciated. I'm just a very honest person and I think this definitely comes over in my videos! Thank you also for your suggestion on doing a video on hair and makeup. I will add it to my plan and work on this. XX
I think my biggest fashion mistake in the past was simply not knowing my base style & how to style myself. Only in the last 18 months or so have I done a lot of work in this area & figured it out.
I love classic items, but I make sure to keep them updated with trends that suit me. For example, when I needed new tees last year, I got a couple of fresher square-neck, ribbed cotton ones instead of the same exact style I had before.
You’ve raised some excellent points to work your wardrobe and in the end the thing that works the magic of attractiveness is a big smile, some confidence and wearing what you love, no matter your age, size or stage of life. Thank you for sharing with fab pics and a delightful attitude- I’m here for that! Donna 🧚🏻♀️❤️🐝
So many great ideas in this video. You have a wonderful way of getting your point across and adding a little humor at the same time. This video is 8 months old and I must say that the smaller eyelashes you wear currently are much more flattering. It's not my intention to hurt your feelings, I'm only mentioning it because you look much nicer when your eyelashes are a more natural length. Love your channel Deirdre.
That's really sweet of you, thank you. I really want to help us women over 50 as I feel we are not considered enough in fashion, style and beauty. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. XX
Fabulous Deirdre! i like your advice.i'm a little bit fat and i like wearing clothes with flowers especially in summer and i do not feel really at ease ,i have always thought that there's something wrong with me,it becomes clearer just now watching your video, that big flowers make me look fat and doesn't fit me at all.Iwould like you to present some outfits with their make up,which ones matches better with outfits,i mean colour of eyeshadows and lip sticks etc...i'm suresome women find difficulty in choosing the right colours of make up with their outfits.Good luck darling!
Hi Nora. Welcome to my channel and wonderful to have you here. Thanks so much for commenting too. I'm so pleased that my little pieces of advice have helped you. If you are a little larger, the big flower prints will definitely make you look bigger than you are, so try getting some smaller prints and smaller flowers if you like this type of clothing. I think bright colours are fine and look good, so don't worry about that! I will definitely be looking at make up very soon, so watch out for this! Lots of love. X
Hair and make up play a big part also. I spent 30 years doing hair, and if more clients would listen to the hairdresser instead of trying to hold onto their youth they would look a lot better. Also make up less is more when you’re older.
1st time watching your channel & I'm hysterical ! ( not to mention very much informed !!) @@50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre I'd forgotten to comment on my fashion "aging" ideas. Clothes that are much too tight- making you look like a sausage. Overly frilly clothes -making you look straight out of a Victorian sepia photo. Moo moos. Paperbag pants. Garishly deco tees or tees that say LOVE with unicorns. IMHO- cold shoulder tops done poorly. I have more but that's all for now...........& ........ I did very much appreciated your video!🐴
I agree, women seem to be wearing old fashion looking over done makeup. It makes you look older. I think a light makeup really highlights and older women's beautiful face. Stop trying to look younger. It doesn't work and being older looks great!
Love your advice 50& fabulous My friend Deidre, but I’m well over 50, I don’t feel my accurate age, I love what you wear , just trying to loose some weight so I can take advantage of your videos, Thank you so much
I agree with you about about large prints. Mistakes I had to learn not to make are as follows: 1. Not having my stripes line up where the sleeves need the body of the item or where it buttons, 2. Large prints, although I find this relative the size of the women-big women can wear a larger print, 3. Too many loud colors in one outfit. I find the louder the color the fewer shades need to be incorporated. I find my biggest lesson I had to learn that many women fail to learn that is even more aging than fashion choices deals with make up. As one ages, less is more. Black hair and eye make up needs to be changed to brown as black is too harsh and makes one look hard. Lip liner needs to match the shade of lipstick which needs to be a more neutral color and no more highlighting under the eyebrow in white as that makes the eyes look droopy. I find on me a more natural look is much more youthful than one that screams made up. This doesn’t necessarily mean less make up, but means going with more natural shades than blend in with my coloring more.
Thanks so much for watching and your great comments. I agree with everything you’ve said! As you say, makeup is another factor to consider as we get a little older. Less is more and softness becomes increasingly important. I don’t think makeup sits as well on older skin so we have to adapt to stay glowing and youthful. Thanks so much again for sharing your thoughts. Xxx
I have a white blazer like yours, but the sleeves are too long. I'm petite and have short arms. What do you think of that old style of pushing the sleeves of a jacket up?
Is may sound crazy... But you actually look like a teenager today... And if I let my hair grow out it would have gray showing ...you have dark... And I actually love it ... How does it feel to be 18 again?....I'm from Michigan...USA... I absolutely love your channel!!...I turn a young 61 this year... You absolutely are my favorite with all your tips and tricks!!!😊❤
I agree, especially about the oversized clothes, that’s a trend I hate. It’s so mannish and shapeless. I’m not tall and have a small, narrow frame and I just disappear in oversized clothes. I never wear tight clothes, either, just ones fitted to my body, I think that’s the most flattering.
Hi Deidre, love your channel. I have been watching the runway shows for spring/summer. Loved the Tom ford show witch showed shiny brights and metallics. Would love to see your take on how to style the trend without looking ridiculous.
Hi Nancy. Thanks for your lovely comments. I love Tom Ford too and, coincidentally, shiny brights and metallics!! I think they can certainly be incorporated (sparingly!) and in a toned-down way into outfits we wear. Thank you for your suggestion as I may include this in my series on “50 WAYS TO LOOK AND FEEL FABULOUS AFTER 50”. I hope you are enjoying this series. Thanks again. Xx

Dear Deirdre, You look stunning, youthful, and fresh in white and yellow. The bigger shoulder pads are flattering on you, too. I love all your tips. My wardrobe is about 95% classic clothing now--quite a contrast to my wardrobe before. One film that influenced the way I dress is called China Moon, starring Madeline Stowe; it came out in the early 1990s. She wears elegant clothes, such as sheaths and delicate jewelry. Thank you for showing us how to dress more youthful as we get older. By the way, where's your kitty? I love seeing her doing a cameo role! Natalia Arizona
Hi Natalia. Thank you for your lovely comments. I'm going to have to look out for the film you recommend. Madeleine Stowe is a very elegant actress. One film you might like to watch for the style of the protagonist is Mr and Mrs Smith. Angelina Jolie looks amazing in pencil skirts and fitted clothes. If you like her, you'll love this film!! Take care. XX
@@50FabulouswithMyFriendDeirdre Dear Deirdre, Thank you for the suggestion of the Angelina Jolie film; yes, I've seen it, and she looks stunning in her tailored outfits. The costume designer outdid herself with that film. I live in knee-length pencil skirts from White House Black Market.
