    Greetings from Russia. I have watched the development of this project for several years. And I will say that most of these shortcomings are associated with the incompleteness of the project, especially in the part of the script. This is especially noticeable since Vegas. This is due to the very small development team, as well as the desire to avoid delaying the release date.

      I know man it’s always been weird to me how a shitpost can get 10x more views than videos like this. I personally think it’s because of the popularity people have already with peers and friends online perhaps. If you have a lot of friends and you get them to comment and like your videos when they come out UA-cam will push the video out WAY more. Resulting in an unfathomable rise in subscribers in a shorter period of time.

    I’ve never seen anything from this mod before, so seeing that President head in a jar was pretty unsettling. It’s almost as creepy as the Master’s, although that translation makes so little sense it’s hard to take him seriously. There’s a difference between Lynchian crypticness that makes you intrigued and stuff that is plainly written that way on accident. I’m sure it sounded at least a little better in Russian. Like how the original English translation for Pathologic back in 2005 made a game rich with meaning downright incomprehensible at times.

    This wierd thing with the biker was added on release as a part of reworked storyline, he wasn't there (in version 0.99b) at all before. In the end you had to track the villain using radio tracking tech at the same military base where this wierd plot device appears in later versions. The president also had no talking head and was more like a gimmick Enclave president in Fallout 2. In my opinion, the game's ending was poorly rewritten compared to its beta version, and i couldn't see any reason in these rushed changes.

    Arcanum has a good mystery story and while you uncovering why people want to kill you, you find out more and more about the world and its history. It isn't really a post apocalypse setting but it has similiar themes. All major and big events already happen. the age of heroes and big battles is already gone and the the time of your journey Arcanum is on the verge of changing (industrialism). You kinda feel like a detective puzzling together what (really) happen. Similiar to Fallout 3 and New Vegas with terminal and notes except well... People who tell you what happen, books and other lore elements. Shouldn't be a surprise. Tim Cain worked on it and according to himself its the game, which has the most of "him" in it.
    If you haven't played it yet. Do it! While jank as fuck, it is truly one of the best RPG expierences. And I tend to gosh like a teenager about the first crush when I start talking about Arcanum.. so .. I shut up now..

    Good review. I've played the mod like 1.5 years ago and had an absolute blast. My favorite thing were the new assets made done in the same style as the originals, none of them felt like they were out of place, felt like a genuine Fallout game. I agree that the main quest felt weak, I remember that there was something to do in Reno to push it forward, it was a bit too hard for me so I decided to to do go to another location to level up, maybe find some better gear... Then I completely forgot about it and didn't come back until very late into the game. From the writing I did enjoy though, the Wind of War really stood out for me. I won't spoil it, but it was interesting to see the contrasts between them and Brotherhood of Steel. Also, I noticed you didn't mention the car, so I'm curious if you found it. The soundtrack is excellent, I fondly remember the Wind of War and Uran City themes. I hope they learned from the mistakes in Sonora

About Phil. missions, (the guy who has the gun and a power armor) puts the first poison on him, then rests for 3 hours, then puts the other poison on him and so on until he runs out, then Phil will die and you can get the gun, but not power armor, done, I will update the post when I know the ways to catch the horsekillers.
    1: You can find the horse killer on Ed's corpse in the sewers of Salt Lake City.
    2: In Las Vegas, at the Hard Rock Café, you can find a drug dealer who has a horse killer and a prescription for stimulants.

    There should be a new version of Nevada with a rewritten storyline that lacked all these strange elements like the collector of souls and the president's head. Also, the main plot would become non-linear. Companions would have appeared. Las Vegas and Salt Lake City would be cut, but New Reno and the Wind of War would be expanded. There would also be new locations, like the pre-war weather control station, inhabited by savages. Sadly, the author has lost interest in the project.

    Having now played Resurrection and Hopping straight into Nevada i know exactly what you mean when u said shocking. Despite using the same engine, they are very different beasts entirely. Resurrection concentrates far too much on the dilemma of good vs evil, hence most of the quests in that mod are mutually exclusive, if you take the good path, you will be locked out of doing any evil related quests and vice versa, while Nevada is more in the grey area giving you more freedom and letting you be a humanitarian & scumbag simultaneously very similar to Fallout 2! Despite some of the improvements in Resurrection that i prefer more then Nevada, overall I'm enjoying Nevada significantly more, hell I'm not even sure if Nevada has any followers, considering resurrection had a plethora of unique followers and along with some new companion related perks.

    I've played through the English translation twice, I think the way the main story is executed in the mid to late game is the weakest aspect of the mod.*spoilers* From what I've pieced together Vault 8 exist to produce "pure souls", people with healthy bodies not tainted by radiation, drug abuse, new and old diseases, or even certain disabilities. This fits in with what we already know from Fallout 2: Vault 8 has a sterile and eugenic approach to reproduction with citizens forgoing sexual reproduction for artificial methods with specially selected sperm donors, in addition to strict policies against drugs and alcohol. The citizens of Vault 8 are essentially livestock for the high ranking members of the Government. Which is why an automated train runs from Vault 8 to the government vault (imma call it Vault G) and people who see the trains have a habit of dying or disappearing. Further evidence, the only way to get to Vault G from the outside is by way of said train, as the people of Salt Lake tell you the area to the north is guarded by flying robots that kill any humanoid that breaches the perimeter. The "The Reaper of Souls" is the man who spearheads the harvesting of "pure souls" (cause he's a reaper get it), rounding up the citizens to be taken back to the Vault G. It's strongly implied he was a pre-war government agent who had his life prolonged by the project and has been doing this for a hundred years. Hope his clears some things up, please tell me if you know more

    Power Armor meant nothing in fallout 2 if you played on the hardest mode, most burst weapon attacks would chew through that shit like hot knife through butter, as each shot of the burst attack had a chance to make the whole attack critical, doing insane amount of overkill damage. It helped having power armor but as soon as you encounter npc's with mini-guns or fully automatic weapons, there was no difference if you had it equipped or not!
    I think minimum critical burst damage i seen in the game was slightly over 150 damage and maximum critical damage i seen was 1800 damage, either way you were dead meat, even if you had maximum damage reduction perks like toughness and dermal plating implants for your body along with power armor.

    I actually downloaded it & am about to play it. Since I saw a quick playthrough from another channel.
    And from a writing perspective, this mod is a lot more lore friendly than Bethesda's fallout.
    The only issue I'm having with these fan made fallout mods/games, is that they are not voice acted.
    I would be already happy if they had at least 5 - 10 voice actors for at least the really important characters.
    Yes the talking heads look great but they don't really come alive unless there's an adequate voice to go with.
    Obviously it will be very hard for these slavic dev teams to find proper voice actors.
    1.) English isn't really commonly spoken in Russia & the majority of Russians have a strong accent & poor speaking skills.
    2.) Since these mods are build on the classic fallout games engines, they don't make money off of these projects, so it's not very likely that they could afford to hire fluently english speaking voice actors.
    Which is really a shame, because I'd be happy to continue playing isometric fan made fallouts rather than ever touching abominations like Fallout 4 or 76. lol Fallout 3 is the only somewhat decent Fallout game has made.
    Then again, if you are well read & have a very vivid imagination, then picturing the dialogue can also be quite fun.
    Maybe I can fiddle around with generated AI voice programs like Uberdruck & edit them a bit so I can have Morgan Freeman's voice narrating the plot for me upon entering dialogue with someone or something lol

    Another great vid. But I think we have to get away from the idea that a protagonist with amnesia is cliche. We've seen it a lot and will continue to see it a lot because it mirrors our lives. Humans have no idea where they came from and the best we have are old documents and a few aged NPCs who give us contradictory stories about what happened before we booted up our current life. Being ubiquitous I think our current paradigm that protagonist amnesia is cliche would be like saying fighting enemies or looking for treasure is also cliche.

    • @ramblelime
      @ramblelime  3 роки тому

      I disagree.
      First of all, amnesia is very different than the default human experience. Chiefly in that people with amnesia already have a history in the world, relationships to it, etc, whereas people coming into this world are 100% new to it. The comparison is a stretch i think, but even if it wasn't, amnesia still serves as a crutch for writers who want to make their exposition as easy as possible. Amnesia plots aren't necessarily always bad, and their status as a cliche isn't necessarily bad in itself, it's that amnesia is a very convenient way to completely sidestep one of the hardest parts of writing a story (providing realistic exposition). It'd not bad because it's been done a million times, it's bad because it's lazy writing.

    • @FiggsNeughton
      @FiggsNeughton 3 роки тому

      @@ramblelime People with amnesia have as much history as a video game character with amnesia - basically people tell them they did this and they did that. Neither has first-hand experience. And we're all in the same situation to some degree. Some people even think the Mandela Effect is a result of the simulation's current dev team retconning the story from older iterations of the simulation. You think you have a history, in reality you have NPCs you trust and books written by NPCs you trust. And in fact if you trust the story too much, you essentially *become* an NPC, as only the player character has the ability to question the story and peel back the layers of the story. It's not lazy writing. I'm a writer. Out of all the books and short stories I've written, I wrote one story with an amnesiac protagonist, and it wasn't easier or more difficult to write the story.

  • @Stuurminator
    @Stuurminator 3 роки тому

    Regarding the difficulty: I think I played a slightly older version of the mod than shown in this video, but my advice is to not play it like typical old-school Fallout. Avoid fights if you can (and you usually can) and use your other skills to complete quests. It makes things *much* easier. In this mod, the Gifted trait is a noob trap; my first time through, I played an INT 9 character with the Skilled trait and the Comprehension perk and cleaned house without much difficulty.

    • @ramblelime
      @ramblelime  3 роки тому

      ahhhh so thats why. I took gifted

    • @Stuurminator
      @Stuurminator 2 роки тому

      @Bluescore De'La'vie Gifted hampers your skills while improving your ability scores, which are most useful for combat and meeting perk requirements (and most meaningful perks are focused around combat). Most consider it to be the best trait by far in vanilla Fallout 2, but skills are much more valuable that combat in this mod, so Gifted basically prioritizes the wrong parts of your character build.

    • @Stuurminator
      @Stuurminator 2 роки тому

      @Bluescore De'La'vie Gifted also includes a malus (-10%, I think) to all of your skills' initial values. In base Fallout 2 this isn't a big deal because you only need a few of those skills, but FoN makes all of them useful (besides maybe Throwing and First Aid), so penalties across the board will cost you. Gifted doesn't make the game unplayable by any means, but first-timers may pick it as a no-brainer and end up not going the benefit from it that they're expecting.

    For me the Fallout games are like the films I am Legend (Fallout 3) vs Mad Max (NV) and I prefer exploring post-apocalyptic cities full to the brim with muties, ghouls, slavers, raiders and more as opposed to a...desert with some fire ants. No hate. I love em all. But I will always love Fallout 3 because she was my first... And that soundtrack... Megaton... Rivet City... Three Dog... NV is good for when I feel like gamba and listening to some Dean Martin or RP a ranger with a big iron on his hip. 4 is good for the settlement building stuff and of course the updated graphics. 1/2 I've played maybe once or twice because they're a bit dated but for lore, they're great. I preferred 1 tbh. 2 dragged on a bit much for my liking. I liked tactics only for this mod where you played as the Enclave but it crashed a lot. I never went back. They're all good.
