Homeowner Gets Renewed Motivation After Seeing This Garden Transformation!

- Well, we have finally moved back into the front yard, and we are on the home straight. Those of you that have been following along will know this property by now because I've already done 8 episodes here. This has been a massive cleanup and the biggest I have ever done. And when I say this yard is crazy, I mean CRAZY! It was full of blackberries, rubbish, old trees and what was left of the garden beds. To get this property back up to standard has taken a lot of hard work and effort. I've done the best job I can on this yard, as the homeowner really needed the help. Sit back and enjoy another episode on the biggest cleanup I've ever done! All up, I spent around 13.5 hours on this episode, including 3 trips to the landfill. This is episode 9 of 11.

Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷♂️
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem to be the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

Not sure if this helps but hopefully! I see you have hand crank dump box. If you have cordless drill, put a socket on the end to match up to size of crank. You may have to take crank handle off (the “L” part). Attach drill/socket to the “-“ straight part of crank that protrudes from dump box. Way easier and saves on your wrists. I hope that makes sense and works for you! Cheers!

What you have done for this lady is beyond heroic. Just hauling away all the garbage and old furniture was an enormous help. I'm sure she was overwhelmed trying to figure out what to do with it all, nevermind the actual yardwork. She clearly doesn't have a lot of money to pay anyone and it can add up quickly. You have such a good heart to help people out like this. It looks so pretty now!

By helping clean the yard, you are helping the owner to tidy up her own life. I feel like she was stuck as the result of her son's problems. It's now like getting a new haircut and some new clothes.

You provided comedy, took us with you to the recycling center, took us shopping, invited us to see a glimpse of your home, acknowledged the orange cat, the magpie and council workers, and best of all, helped the homeowner reclaim her out of control yard and driveway. Another fantastic job! You are a true blessing to the community.

This made me feel very emotional - in a good way. I don't think there would be very many people who would do so much hard work for someone they barely know, and for free! As you cleared away the junk and cut down the straggly trees I felt so happy. It feels like more light and air can come in and the place can breathe a sigh of relief. It's already looking so much nicer. OMG I almost had tears in my eyes. OK, I actually did. You are an outstanding human being and God knows we sure need people like you!! I liked seeing the magpie and the mynah - we have those too in NZ. I love the sound of magpies so much! I hope the lady can get some new net curtains for her windows, it would make the world of difference. They are pretty cheap at chain stores or even op-shops. I bet she hasn't had so much care and kindness from a decent man in a long, long time. I can't thank you enough.

It's midday here, and I've just got from my garden, spent the whole morning renewing my strawberry beds 🍓 God bless you for inspiring me to buy a brush cutter (after this ep I'll definitely buy a cordless screwdriver). @@lauramitchell6725 that would be the right solution. The property is too large. I have the memetic (in this country) "six acres", so I manage to keep it. This one is just enormous for a woman, and so complexly landscaped.

Most importantly you’re helping someone who desperately needed your competent project management and professional experience. Personally, without knowing you, I greatly respect you for making the decision early on to throughly assist this mother and didn’t just dash in and out when it was painfully obvious how labor intensive and how large the project truly was, you certainly could have done that, but it just goes to show what a positive experience this has been. I would guess that viewers, like myself and hopefully you, can feel like this experience is much bigger than you and all of us might have expected, taking the longer through dedicated road when helping someone and being a good human with empathy and compassion, is just more than cleaning a yard.
