+Smooth-On Would this work on (Survivor for Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 - Black - Polycarbonate, Silicone - 72" Drop Height). I want to paint the case a different color than the current one and I wanted to know if it would stick one permanently to the case because whatever else I tried wouldn't work.

?Hi Mary, you would mix NOVOCS Matte with Psycho Paint without color to give the final piece a 'sealing' coat of matte clear silicone.
Can someone explain to me why my result is glossy and not matte?
I had a leftover which after evaporating had some powder residu, so the powder is in there.

It is recommended to use an organic vapor respirator when airbrushing with NOVOCS

when you are looking to achieve a matte finish, it is somewhat easier to airbrush the silicone. Left over mixed material, when sealed, only lasts a few hours, as the silicone is still curing, even in the solvent. It is best to mix up a small batch at a time.

No, it would not be able to remove cured silicon from other silicone surfaces.

Psycho Paint offer only few colors... what if I need to paint for example Dragon Skin silicon with "steel" color such as Alclad II Steel... I know this color will crack and gets off. Is there some way? Perhaps mixing it with smth or is there any steel color for Dragon Skin?

Hi There, any size will work, just keep in mind that the airbrush will need to be cleaned out immediately using NOVOCS to keep the silicone from curing in it.

Hey Smooth-On. Sorry if this is long, but before I go spend $500+ I want to be sure I'm right, or if there is a different route I need to take. I am in need of Novocs, Silc Pig, and Psycho Paint products to paint over Dragonskin. However, what scares me about using it...like in this video and others...I've noticed what comes out of the airbrush is barely anything. The amount of layering needed to get the color is off putting. Is that just due to the amount of NOVOCS? Would I just use less Novocs? The more I would thin it out the less opaque? I'm hoping for a much thicker opaque quicker use of getting the colors on the dragon skin. I know I can pigment the dragon skin with silc pig. But I will be painting designs and gradients of lots of different colors on to the dragonskin that covers a fairly large surface. I need to be time efficient and per this video...I would not be. Any suggestions? I'm ready to buy all the above AS LONG AS I can be more opaque with the airbrush. Maybe not these particular products but you have others that would work? Hi Alexis. The art of painting silicone requires any different types of techniques both via airbrush and standard brush. There are some great tutorials from Stan Winston Studio which outline these as well as some good Facebook groups for silicone mask making where people discuss painting silicone.
im trying to paint the words on off and defogger and the defogger switch of an old car and the words are wearing off but they are on soft smooth rubber and then the switch lever is in the middle, do you this this paint mixture would work for the on and off word details on that piece
Would a siphon air brush be better for this since you will need more paint base and Novocs?
Either type can be used.
Will this solvent and paint work on other companies platinum based silicones ?
It would work on other platinum silicones but the softer Silicones generally work the best

Would this work on homemade moldable silicone a-la the King of Random's recipe of 100% silicone and corn starch? Could you make a sculpture out of that into a glossy finish?
This technique is designed for platinum cure silicones only.
This sounds stupid, but, I'm going to buy a new phone case and I want to paint the silicone parts of the case blue. I've read to use nail polish for painting silicone but there are no tutorials on the internet. I know the kind of paint used in this video is overkill for what I'm trying to achieve, but, I was wondering if there's something else out there to use on my case recommended by the pros. Thanks.
You may want to try a 100% silicone caulking thinned with mineral spirits.
which silicone is the best for masks?

Wouldn't this harm someone if you glued the prosthetic to someones face and then airbrushed it.... because of the solvent that's in it?
Troy, this process is for prop pieces or prosthetics before they are applied.

Hi im a reborn artist and im using clsy to sculpt the baby but i want the actual finish product to be silicone. Because of that i want to know what material i should use to make the mold for the clay and then the silicone doll.
MyMastershake, you can use a gypsum plaster or epoxy mold to cast the silicone baby in. You can use another silicone for the mold, but these generally requires a specific release which may make painting difficult.
if you use the matte diluent, do you still need to use mattifying powder in the finalization?

Minseral spirits can work as well, but takes a long time to evaporate. Also, acetone and alcohol WILL NOT work.

Hi I had cast a doll head and started the paint job with fuse fx paints. I then decided to root the hair on the head and it became oily and sticky. I shampooed the whole head after rooting and the oil came off. My question is: can I use alcohol or mineral spirits over the painted areas to make sure it doesn't get oily? Thank you very much for your help!
Cleaning with mineral spirits would be our recommendation.
Smooth-On, Inc I think I asked this question somewhere else and don't remember where, but what would cause silicone paint not to stick to the platinum silicone? I painted an area and the rest of the face cured well except the lips. I then cleaned the lips with acetone and airbrushed it but after curing overnight it still had areas that did not cure. What could cause this? Thanks

Whats the pot life once mixed, and then what's the cure time once applied?
i am making a fake hand using mold star 20T. the hand needs to be a realistic color. how should i tint the silicone before pouring it into the cast. what liquid should i use to tint it.
Devon O'Leary Smooth-On's Silc Pig. You can mix that into Part B. Be aware that Silc pig is very concentrated. After Part B and the Silc Pig is mixed together with no stration in color, add Part A and cast that into the mold. That will give you at least a base color. Dont forget to spray your mold with their Ease Release 200!
+Stephen Westbury I want to make a realistic dummy head for special effects. I've seen some medical prosthetic clinics use powder to give their pieces a "soft" finish. I'm not sure where to get this and I was hoping you have what I'm taking about available. *Could I seal this powder in once I have done the proper base and detail color work?*

how do you finish or paint stretchy rubber without paint cracking?
Using a stretchy paint like Psycho Paint on silicone rubber gives a stretchy paint. For urethanes, our Ure-Coat works well as a paint.
Smooth-On ok so if i stretch the rubber silicone the paint wont get distorted somehow? how does it work? ive tried painting tank bands with acrylic and the acrylic came right off

Is it like toluene? Like a psycho paint thinner?
It will thin down any silicone, but works very wee in Psycho Paint. It is a substitute for toluene, with zero VOCs. Toluene is getting more difficult to obtain in some areas, and a zero VOC solvent like NOVOCS is a good offset.
