Keep it braided but not with those tight braids, just loose braids and leave it alone. And don’t put all those products on it. You just need some oil.

All black All day Yes as long it’s not extra tight putting stress on the hair. I never had long hair before I stopped relaxing. It has grown 18 inches. I cut my hair little by little to get rid of the relaxed hair. I wash once a week to remove oil buildup and use a conditioner. I twist it and leave it alone with a protective style. If you have a problem with tangles and knots, use aunt Jackie’s no knot detangled on DRY hair to detangle before you wash it. Put a mixture of water and oil in a spray bottle to keep your hair hydrated throughout the week. My hair is very coarse and easily broken, so if it works for me, it should work for anyone.

If there's hair on your head it's growing, something you're doing or not doing is breaking it off.
½ an inch of hair a month is about 1mm every 3 days, so you see how easy it is to shred of your ends off so you see no net increase.
by the time this quarantine is over everyone’s gonna look different...most will be bald, some will have millets, some will have bobs 😂, some will have falling tracks and some will not have any eyebrows at all

Urgh same. I once decided to give myself a trim and because I was having so much fun I had the absolute genius idea to give myself bangs. I literally sectioned off the thinnest bit of hair you’ve ever seen as a ‘guide’ for the rest of the bangs. Well I chickened out after that and ended up with what can only be described as ghost bangs, I had the essence of bangs, it was like someone in another room whispered ‘bangs’ but you’re not really sure if you heard it or not.
Thankfully they were easy to hide, but if the wind blew them into my face again it looked like my forehead had a 5o’clock shadow.

I guess I am an “OG” from back when natural hair boards were a thing. All the threads were literally about hair growth and hair products, that’s it lol. I’ve been natural since 2003 and I stay with a short haircut, sometimes I grow it out, but I always go back to short eventually.

Went to the salon to get my sister locs cut that I had for 15 years. They were at least to my belly button. The staff at first were REFUSING to cut my hair, they thought I was having a midlife crisis. Other clients in salon chairs were pleading that I shouldn't cut it. The lady who decided to cut it asked me if I was sure about 10 times. I just wanted a short Bob cut to my ears. The moral of the story is stay AUTHENTIC to yourself. People will try to project their own beauty standards and insecurities on you. There is nothing like the feeling of liberation of being true to who you are. People put hair on a pedestal for sure.

Yes I agree with you about that. My grandmother on my father's side loves hair so much. I remember all she would say to me is to NEVER cut my hair. She would say my hair was my crown. She said that so much I never wanted to cut my hair. It was to the point as I grew older I would cry real tears at the hair salon every time I had to get my hair cut because my hair was damaged.My dad is the same way. Anytime I said I was going to the salon the only thing he would say was. "YOU BETTER NOT CUT YOUR HAIR".

She has always kept her hair short. She wears it bold now because she went through cancer and it doesn't grown in the middle any more. But before she suffered with cancer my mom's mom had a very short hair cut. I'm 36 now and I no longer stress over cutting my hair. It took me some time tho. From what I was told from my dad, my grandma hair didn't start to grown until she was 5 years old. Her mother always put a hat on her until her hair really grew in. So I am assuming she was passing down her childhood feelings into her grandkids.

Me too, I hear a lot of people saying it's just hair. Well cancer and medicine took what I had and it's been a struggle for the past 3.5 years. I'm not complaining because GOD kept me during my illness but it's kinda heartbreaking when you looking at thin hair or constant breakage. This reminds me of the time I went to get my hair cut and the hairdresser tried to convince me the entire time not to do it. She'd just kept cutting it little by little and looked so distressed.I'm like lady you do know this is my hair and I'm paying you. I left with a shoulder length bob and ended up just going bald a week later at another salon. lol
My hairdresser did the same thing to me. I was in the salon all damned day. I was about to have a waiting to exhale moment and grab the scissors my damned self.

I prefer healthy hair over length. Length is overrated and sometimes can weigh the face down depending on facial shapes. The cut you did is my favorite cut and looks good on you. Get you some statement earrings to set it off!

This is so true. I couldn’t agree more. I think sometimes during our natural hair journey, we look at those curly girls with hair types that aren’t like our own and we beat ourselves up if a twist out or a product doesn’t work as well on our own hair. I’ve been there, done that. Now I appreciate their hair and I enjoy my own journey. Well said sis.
There is nothing like a fresh cut. I woke up in the hospital in ICU and realized they had cut 1/4 of my hair off. When I went home from having brain surgery I got my clippers out and shaved all the rest of my hair off which was something I had wanted to do for about a year. It felt so refreshing. It was about my 6 big chopped and I love it.
When she said "cutting hair is so fun..you could easily get carried away"... 😒 to all the barbers that did.

Why are people saying a hair cut is “risky” no its life! Lol im a waist length natural right now and ive been thinking about a drastic cut too. Im tired of the length and the weight its time. It’ll grow back lol
Because most of us struggle to attain shoulder length. It isn't in our DNA to have waist length, or 13 inches of spare hair to whack off with scissors. Hair grows back yes, but for most, recouping that much hair would take years.
that's bc you have the long hair and the DNA that makes your hair grow but some ppl struggle with length retention and growth so if they ever want their to grow back it will take more than 1 year
It doesn't have to be in your DNA trust me! I have been natural for 8 years almost 9 and the first 7 years I was 6 years I struggled to get my hair to grow. When I finally learned what my hair loved i.e. (products, styles) most importantly leaving it alone it took off growing and I was almost blown away!! Don't give up ladies I thought the same but our hair will grown waist length or to whatever your desired length. You just need to learn your hair likes and dislikes, products etc. It may take some time but you owe it to yourself to figure your hair out. Black women our hair is unique but that doesn't mean it can't flourish to it's fullest potential.❤💚🖤
