Vince Gill wrote the song after the death of his brother.. we played this song at my fathers funeral... still can’t hear it without crying... so beautiful and touching.. love that home free recorded it..
When Tim started singing Amazing Grace I looked at your face and completely lost it. That is one of the most emotional songs ever written, Home Free sings it supurbly.
Vince Gill is a Beautiful Singer! He wrote this about his brother and didn’t sing it until Keith Whitley died. He originally sang it with Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless! He has sang it several times at various funerals!
Vince Gill wrote this fir a fellow artist Keith Whitley finished it when his brother Bob died in 1993 added another verse two years ago he is also an amazing singer a sensitive beautiful musician a brilliant guitarist can play most anything with strings
God I love, love, love just watching them inside the music. Their videos are great and I love 'em, but I could just watch them recording every single time.
I've told you before, but I repeat it again: You are one of the most sincere, authentic reactors out there. Thank you! You reflect my responses exactly. I still love Vince Gill's version, but this was fantastic!
It's Chance's bass voice you hear...Tim is singing a different part here...Chance is an amazing bass...I love his voice. Go listen to Vince Gill's song...it's about when his brother passed away. Especially since you really loved his voice on your Country Week. You won't be disappointed..bring your tissues!!
Heard this right after my nephew passed a month ago. Still brings tears to my eyes and makes me think of him. Rob? Rob is absolutely amazing! I fell in love with Home Free the first time I saw one of their videos and heard Rob sing. I had the pleasure of telling him so when I went to their concert in May. I got the sweetest smile from him. Will never forget it!
These guys are amazing! When Vince Gill sings this song I can’t help but cry every time. You can just feel the emotion in his voice, after all he wrote this song about his brother who’s resting high on the mountain.
Vince Gill wrote this song shortly after his brother died. It was meant as a tribute, and has definitely become one. Originally recorded by Vince Gill, he had Ricky Skaggs and Patty Lovelace join him on the gorgeous three part harmonies.
They are Fabulous live !!! It was so hard to believe that they could be as good or better than a recorded version of a song, but it is true. I was absolutely blown away, we see them whenever they are close enough . They are all so good and Yes Rob has been great, but I am missing some more of Austin;s voice. That guy can really Sing !!!!
Chance is so incredible singing the base on his on this...he and Tim are a so good together. When Tim was singing...Chance sounded so so so good!!!! This one made me cry.
This was written and originally sung by Vince Gill. He wrote it for his brother after he had passed away with no intention of recording it, it was a personal goodbye from one brother to another. Definitely recommend listening to the original Vince has an incredible voice and is an incredible guitar player who has played at Eric Claptons crossroads festival several times. He also joined the Eagles last year for their tour.
Rob has always had a good voice, but he seems to have more confidence about him I have noticed and it does reflect in his voice too. This was done live, there is no official video for it yet on their YT page, but hopefully soon. This is what goodness you would hear live at a concert. They are just that good seriously and I have heard them do this live at a concert I attended last month. I didn't really go to cry, but that song will do it to ya. Lol!
I love this song....I was very happy to learn Home Free had done a cover of Vince Gill's masterful song. Now I would love to find out how Vince Gill feels about what Home Free did with his song.....
I am late to your crew but have leaned on Home Free since Covid hit. This is one of my absolute favorites! Another is Children Go Where I Send Thee, with Kenny Rogers. Long but worth every second! Thanks for your reaction ... found a year down the road! 😊
I love this song...and I have to chuckle because I knew you'd mention the hat. LOL. I admit though, that I thought the same thing. Men do not wear hats in church.
Thank you so much for this reaction, PG! I had much the same reaction as you did when I first watched this. This song was written & performed by Vince Gill for Keith Whitley & his brother when they passed away. My mother had mentioned that she wanted this song played at her funeral when she passed, and I do believe that this will be the version that we will use. The most amazing part is that this is a live performance - no mixing or studio needed. Thanks again for all your reactions! ❤
First: ADAM!!! No baseball caps in church!! P.E.R.I.O.D. Second: These guys are the Kings of the polar opposites! They can have my sides splitting from laughter with one song and blubbering, snot nosed, ugly crying in another. I have never seen them live in concert either so I'm hoping they will be in a venue near me too! I mean, if both Pentatonix can do a show and the President of the United States can hold his campaign launch in my city then Home Free should be able to stop on by too!
ICONIC VERSION - Vince Gill with Patty Loveless at the memorial for George Jones. When Loveless comes in on the chorus with that high lonesome hill voice of hers ... impossible not to cry.
Both of my parents are gone now. They went exactly 21years apart to the day. I will always remember their love of God and Family. This makes me miss them and happy they can see his face now.
Phenomenal!!! Truly enjoyed that reaction Pat..... and completely fully understand!!! Such a powerful delivery with Rob ... I've always said that this man just doesn't get enough credit (for what he does or his ability). This sound HF produces can't be touched/matched (esp in the acapella world). These "Church Sessions" are as perfect (sound) as you can get. OK - I'll stop........ so I don't write a book. .................. Shout out to @Country Rebel ... awesome work and promotion!!!
It's really hard not to shed a tear or two to this. I almost did it. Lol. Anywho, if I were to die now, this would most likely be my farewell song. It's absolutely touching to me. Keep rockin it out there, my man! You're a super cool dude! :)
Say what you will about Chase wearing a hat in church... but those TONES he was hitting. Absolutely gorgeous. I wish I had a voice half as good as these guys do.
Vince Gill wrote this song and sang it at his brother’s funeral years ago. I don’t know how he did it. I like this, but Vince along with Allison Krause or/& Patty Loveless or/& Ricky Skaggs.......it is purely beautiful & heart tugging. This song is a go to song at funeral. And their add in of Amazing Grace in this was genius. One of my most loved religious song. So beautiful.
An original written by Vince Gill. This is a great cover, but Vince's voice is one of a kind. I just wish I'd quit hearing this at funerals...it just guts the hell out of me.
I strongly encourage you to watch Vince Gill's and Patty Loveless' performance at George Jones' funeral. Patty's angelic voice helps carry him through it. INCREDIBLE. @
These guys did a good job with this song. It still seems extra special when Vince sings it. I think you would especially enjoy the harmonies anytime Vince sings with Patty Loveless. They are amazing together.
Loved the reaction, Pat. I was lucky enough to hear them sing this live while I had a front row center seat so they were standing right in front of me. It was great then and still great now. Apparently it’s the job of the HF baritone to wear a hat in church. First Chris in O Holy Night and now Chance here. You’d figure they would’ve remembered the issues the first one caused and avoided that again here.
They are featuring Rob on most of the songs on their new album and lots of people are very happy about that. His voice is unique and very special and I'm so happy to hear him shine. They have been ending their concerts with this song, but I don't know if they still will on their new tour. If you get to see them before I do (Nov 2) you can let us know :*))
@@bettygossell3408 I lost my dad nearly 26 years ago. I dont think you ever get over the loss, you just get used to the pain of missing them. Blessings to you & yours. 🙏🏻❤
Another fantastic reaction. I love Home Free’s rendition of this song (and I love to hear Vince Gill sing it too) At the last concert I attended someone asked the guys during the Q and A session who had the best voice, and without a moments hesitation Austin answered that it was Rob. Austin said that Rob’s voice is one of the most beautiful voices he’s ever heard. And I have to agree...it is such a pure clear tenor voice and it’s so pleasing to listen to. Chance also said that this was the hardest song for him to sing...not technically, but emotionally. I noticed when they sang it during that concert that Chance kept his eyes closed during the entire song so he could get through it. Thanks for reacting to this.

This version is beautiful, I have a hard time listening to Vince Gill singing it, because that's what was played at my little brother's funeral, but I love this one.
Vince Gill sang it but his version really hit because he lost his brother and he did this song in his honor and there was a lot of emotion behind it. In fact he lost it a couple of times and the lady singing with him, Martina McBride took over while he played the guitar.
No one has Vince Gill's voice but man this is a good cover as usual from the boys in Home Free.
Beautiful tenor...that high lonesome sound.
I agree
Check out Vince Gill and Patty Loveless singing this at George Jone's funeral.
But he's come as close as I've heard....I once heard Vince Gill say that he (himself) sings like a girl. Lol

Vince Gill sang and wrote this song when his brother died.
Vince with Allison and Ricky is sheer beauty
I think he wrote it about singer Keith Whitley hence the line you were no stranger to the rain as his big hit was I'm no stranger to the rain
I am Sherlocked his brother had a drug addiction.
Maybe it has a dual meaning. I looked up the behind the song stats and it says it's about Keith Whitley
