I love it that DT reviews smaller titles with Mike and Zee and Chris. These reviews are GREAT. I'm super excited to play this one... it looks delightful and friendly enough for the whole family.
Great review, as always! I got this via KS with all the expansions. It initially drew my interest with the fantastic fish meeples (feeples?), but I also really enjoy the gameplay. I’ve played it solo and at two players. I’m really glad I backed this. I’m happy to see it’s earned the DT Seal of Excellence as well! 😀
Perhaps I need to give this game another try. My first play wasn't great. I felt like only 2 out of the 4 players were truly competing, while the other 2 (me included) were just vying for scrapes. It just could have been bad luck on my part, but having nearly every fish snagged before you could get to it was frustrating.
I picked this game up on a whim, thought i looked pretty enough for my daughter to play. A very nice little game. I think it was only a KS. My FLG got some in stock. I received all the KS goals. Extremely fun and very beautiful game. Glad it got a review from the DT!
Thanks for the review! Quick editing note: I suggest setting your mic to mono in post next time because the left and right channels are distracting, and dialogue should almost always be set to mono.
Completely different games. The re-release of Octopus Garden, even with all the expansions, started to grate on me. I felt it didn't move at a good pace. Aqua Garden is more like a family game where there are lots of directions players can play and switch up. Octopus often can be full of dead turns trying to get enough pearls for a rich market
Everything is overall great. But that Advanced Fish card for the Manta Ray has no official physical replacement FYI. It is just a PDF fix. The expansions are as a whole welcomed. But they are definitely not all weighted the same. Some have 3 species you really like, other have 1 you like and 2 that feel cutting room floor.
Thanks for reviewing this game, it's been on my watch list since I saw it on Kickstarter. It's funny because I thought you were going to rate the game a 7 after listing to your thoughts, so I was surprised it got rated so high. I'm not convinced I'd love it, but some games you have to play to know and this seems like one of them.
Interesting. I'm glad the shower was off for this one. Did you play it at 2p? Skimming the rulebook here bc you said where tokens go at 4p and 3p. Was it too easy with knowing where the dummy player would go?
The Dummy is a clean-up player. It hoovers the pieces you jump over and puts them in the communal buying pool. It doesn't really affect your decisions much

7:45 My worst nightmare... clown sharks!
And I am looking forward for a seaquel!

I've been looking for this game. Does your FLG sell online?
Thanks for the review!

How does this compare to Octopus’s Garden?
Would love to see a (comparison) video! :-)
Thanks.

I didn’t play it at 2, so sorry I can’t help there. Also, I think the curtain jokes have long gone past the expiration date.
