Most folks think they know the Doors once they heard the End, LA Woman or Roadhouse blues. Doors fans know the WASP, Not to touch the Earth, Five to One. And this one, of course.
The Doors were amazing. A psychedelic fusion of jazz, rock and blues so tightly woven around the surreal poetry and soulful, wounded vocals of the late, great Jim Morrison. I don't think I will ever hear of the like again in my lifetime.
agree.... yet they get short changed imo by critics and many of their musical peers in the industry. at this point, the doors more then any band was moving the ledger in a crucial period in popular music.

In this song, his eyes feel so powerful that by looking with them at you, they can photograph your soul. Just like how native people thought that having their their picture taken would effectively steal their souls. The singer of this song does the same by just looking at you and by allowing his mind take all of your essence in. Clever boy, God damn it. Jim was no fool, except when he was.
I talked to this old guy a few weeks ago while I was at work and he heard me listening to The Doors and he said he grew up in the same neighborhood as Ray Manzarek, small world
this band. this band. nothing like them. ever. even their throwaway songs are beautiful. amazing that around 1980 they caught real fire. now they are forever. and densmore and kreiger are unassuming great guys. obuadhaigh
Aleksandra Biernat enjoy whatever feeling that comes with the Doors music, it's timeless. I'm young as well and it's funny to say they are really all I listen to, I probably know more about them than some of the old timers lol. Also, if you haven't, read some of Jims poetry, it's very good!
At very first hear ( AM radio that summer) you knew you were an honorary Doors fan or not! No matter how the rest evolved, you knew this was different. you knew it was worth sticking with, no matter what. They supported one another to get on the map and got on the map. Let's not forget, all those folk were in their 20's. Sometimes Jim's lyrics were a little shaky on paper. But the spirit of the times was always in there and the music did the rest. Damn decent crew. It always came across just right!
well described. from '66-68 they were a creative dangerous juggernaut. underrated in re to their talent still. the inconsistency and jim's baggage overshadowed them. but when distilled, their potency and impact was as pure as it get in the states.... they also regrouped and left w/ a bang. la woman was the strongest coda of the major bands. more potent then let it be.
I would say Jims spirit was always alive. I get what he is saying 100% of the time. He was a visionary and a great man who knew how to express himself.
Jim morrison, Wow what a man, what a fantastic group, its really hard to say what there best work is, as i think everything the doors have done is simply all groovy, OricalOz, Ova and Out!!!
i really would love to have seen or heard where they would have went musically into the 70s and 80s we really could have seen some real creative sounds from them, now rays gone so were never going to have more than what we do but at least we can enjoy and remember...
they wouldve had to take a dramatic turn. la woman was a great album but their sound was also getting played out. however, riders, lamerica and wasp showed the creativity and cutting edge was still there... but lets say morrison makes it back from paris. by 72 the competition was thick as thieves. they didnt have the wall of metal sound to stay up w/ the juggernauts like zep, who or cooper. nor did jim have the energy to tour like that. they also wouldnt have been comfortable in the more mainstream eagles sound.... my guess the best card, go more blues base artsy. something between the allmans and floyd. if morrison got focused & got his health stronger, it was possible. very smart group. just not sure they could expand at this point. the baggage was weighting them.
I believe that you were visited by the ghost of Morrison my friend. The 'technical glitch' takes nothings away and in fact I believe adds to it and enhances it. Ghost in the machine. It is an artistic work in my humble opinion. Thanks!
Miami Vice Season 2 Episode 10 "Back in the World " 10-08-86 Guest Stars Bob Babalan , Patti D'Arbanville (" Modern Problems "and NY Undercover ") and Don Johnson's former partner, and G.Gordon Liddy. Directed by Don Johnson. A classic episode from the second season of Miami Vice. The camera work from this episode was excellent. I'm surprise that Don Johnson didn't switch to directing motion pictures or for cable television. To me Don Johnson knows his way around the camera.
I was born to be a Doors fan, even though I was born in 1979... one of the first tapes I had and fell in love with was a tape my mom got from Columbia House called The Doors - Classics, which had none of their hits but featured these gems... Strange Days, Love Her Madly, Waiting For The Sun, The Crystal Ship, My Eyes Have Seen You, Wild Child, Five To One, Roadhouse Blues Live, Land Ho!, I Can't See Your Face In My Mind, The WASP (Texas Radio And The Big Beat), Peace Frog and The Unknown Soldier... is it any wonder why I love this band?
I think it was in the 1980's, but does anyone else but me remember the video that Ray Manzarek directed in Hollywood using the Doors song 'LA Woman'? I remember in the video John Doe from X crushing out a cigarette butt by the star of Josef von Sternberg. I've looked and looked for that great video online but haven't found it Brillianly shot video, with great use of mood and lighting, and of course content. Thank you Ray for that one! The video may have played on MTV, but not for too long, it put most of the other crap to shame.
One of the spookiest if not the spookiest of the Doors' many spooky songs. Jim manages to transform a completely mundane act of spying on a neighbor into a major existential cosmic event. :)
We gotta stop this for the night. We're seriously sentimental, but he may be working at that gas station in South America with Elvis. I'm kidding. They were just, um, different enough, to... Christ, for once I'm outta words. Maybe I sensed it as a Sagittarian ( Dec. 13 ) that these were my brothers. Thanks all for the testimony. I think I remember that from, " seminary school".
THE DOORS HAVE SAID THEY WERE INFLUENCED BY COLTRANE RAY ROBBY JOHN ALL WERE INTO JAZZ JIM AS WELL BUT HE DIDN'T PLAY AN INSTRUMENT HE ALWAYS SAID IT TOOK TOO LONG TO LEARN ONE BUT PIANO HE DABBLED WELL HE HAD THE BEATS THE POETS AND THE WORDS
One of their bests from a pure riff perspective. One of their best riffs. Always gets the blood pumping
This is one of the lesser known Doors songs yet one of their best!
none of their songs are lesser known. all of everything they have ever done is very well known
This is legit my favorite song… and for some reason every time I hear it I just want to have the raunchiest sex 😂🤣
@@michaelm7116 Still one of their best song ever after the end. Such a banger of a song.

The Yardbirds were really good as well, it's just that they had a revolving door of guitarists and too much infighting.@@kelvinkloud

this was always one of my favorite Doors tracks. I like the rock'n roll intensity it takes on.
My all time favorite Doors song. It is absolutely criminal that it’s not played more often. That guitar solo is sick!😎
The most "unknown" song od them but it's my favourite ❤
My eyes have seen you let them photograph your soul - amazing lyrics
Have to agree. Morrison wrote some of the very best lyrics ever to grace Rock n Roll.
BohemianMermaid it's "eyes have seen you let them photograph your soul"
He cuted out the subject "my" at this verse:
"Eyes have seen you let THEM photograph your soul"
In this song, his eyes feel so powerful that by looking with them at you, they can photograph your soul. Just like how native people thought that having their their picture taken would effectively steal their souls. The singer of this song does the same by just looking at you and by allowing his mind take all of your essence in. Clever boy, God damn it. Jim was no fool, except when he was.

Ray manzarek is a legend. Doors is nothing without Ray and his keyboard
That guitar solo always gets me
OMG Jim Morrison has to be the best looking guy I've ever seen and his voice was divine.
thx Carol only because my photo is not on your wall in utter worship and amazement
For a man who unfortunately didn't get to middle age, his weight fluctuated massively.

Light years ahead of everyone else. What a band!
What a gift to experience The Doors in exactly the way they meant the band to b. So much live footage and photos that I've never seen before.
When I listen to the songs like this I think I lived in the 60s but I dont remember it. I feel a bit strange because Im 19.
