I'm 63 years old and when I was about 10 my parents put me on Ritalin. My dad was (and still is!) a pediatrician and they still swear it was the only thing that could get me through elementary school. But getting through elementary school was a curse, as it only convinced me that my only course in life was to conform. It wasn't until many many years later I realized that I had given up my superpower. Ever since then, my life has been a crazy wonderful rocket ship ride of success, happiness and zero regrets. Thank you for continuing to champion our superpowers.
thanks for sharing Steve.
me tooo. I hear this also cause alot of us to develop addictions later in life....anyone?
I’ve been told that a lot of people with adhd are constantly trying find that stimuli which can lead to addiction. It’s kinda why they push for meds because it reduces the risk. The only down side is that it feels like you’re creativity is somewhat dampened.
I didn’t even know Ritalin was around back then, crazy
@@jamesfestini jup. And my sugar craving brain made that addiction Coca Cola….
I spent 50% procrastinating and then i watched this and just loaded up Adobe
SHUT UP!
And you loaded Adobe? Dude, time to switch channels.
I fired up Adobe Acrobat Reader to read the manual for yet another software I don't have the patience to learn properly..
What is blud doing here?

Procrastinating by watching this video... oops
☺️🤗❤️✨
Same same! Work is right in front of me, lol.
Lol same. Supposed to be testing this new application we just designed but now it’s been 8months and deployment is Monday and I’m over it and bored of this thing…. So I decided to watch Casey. But… back to work now.
For real!
Same😂
Every time I see a shot of Casey passing by the camera, I remind myself that despite having the income to hire a roaming film crew, he sets up the camera, executes the shot, goes back for the camera, and simply continues. Aside from being just one of his many film signatures, the patience and discipline it requires never goes unappreciated as a fan, because being behind the lens guarantees always being present… in the moment, and in the art.
Yeah videography on point !!!!
Aw so sweet ❤
As a 32 year-old who was just diagnosed with ADD, this video actually cuts really deep and touched something in me. It's so nice to see creative people with more life experience than me showing me some positives to this thing. Thanks Casey!
As an architect, i can only advise you to seek a way to work with short and tough deadlines. Becauae that's when we shine! But we slso burn out super quickly... so be aware.
I remember Calvin and Hobbes story about creativity 🙂
H: Do you have an idea for the story yet?
C: No, I'm waiting for inspiration. You can't just turn on creativity like a faucet. You have to be in a good mood.
H: What mood is that?
C: Last minute panic!
Every time I have write a paper for my college classes 🙄
😂😂
As someone with ADHD, the shoe didn't drop until you explicitly mentioned it. For the rest of it I was just watching it, thinking about a loooottt of things at the same time, being like "Yeah, I know that struggle, boredom v burnout and all" and when you mentioned ADHD I actually blurted out "Holy shit" because I was so caught off guard by the mention of it.
Thank you for being awesome and an awesome inspiration. Started vlogging years back thanks to you, didn't stick with it, because my life was very boring, but never let the itch of filmmaking go.
i was diagnosed with adhd when i was a kid and was told there was something wrong with me and treated as such. now that im in my 30s, i love it! the hyper focus really is a super power lol i can fixate on anything pretty much with like an eagle eye and notice everything around me, whether its hearing or seeing. i remember so much and can process information so much faster than someone without adhd. i retain the smallest minute details about anything and see everything instantly to its roots and have spot on intuition. unfortunately the only downside is the essence of this video. procrastination. its hard for me to get momentum on a project and a lot of the time i am having to force myself to complete tasks. once i get going though, the taurus inside of me rage full speed ahead and then i am damn near impossible to stop or slow down lol please do more videos about living with adhd and add casey!! its nice to know there is other people out there that understands and lives with this type of life!
I don’t know how Casey always comes up with such new and creative ideas to present his videos

ADHD is tremendously frustrating, but I do feel lucky to have that hyper-focus, become razor sharp in emergencies, and have that extra level of situational awareness. I love what you said about bending the world to fit YOUR brain. 👏👏
I recently received an ADHD diagnosis and I’ve been so down on myself. I feel like an idiot who can’t get normal human tasks done. Thank you for this video. Not only do I feel less alone, I feel like I have a super power ❤
That final monologue felt like you were speaking MY mind. I've always felt that my procrastination fuels my hyper-focus and productivity and the cycle is definitely a superpower. I feel it's only ever negative procrastination if you don't meet your timelines and achieve your goals. Also, the creativity in which you present your videos are unparalleled and awe inspiring! Thanks for this video Casey !
It's great seeing his creativity again on UA-cam!
How is it that I knew immediately when I saw the title that it was about adhd and that it was made exactly for me. Thank you Casey, I relate to you so much. I needed to hear someone say it’s ok to put yourself first and not medicate just to fit into society’s mold
Was about to say sounds like you, like me got ADHD. Then you said it.. I got it last year it's a bless and a curse, but knowing I have it and how to use it made life 10x better.
THANK YOU. It’s like when you’re aware you’re dreaming in a dream and you feel in control of the chaos.
Ayyyyy same!

Seriously, your editing and style are unmatched. I mean, no one can replicate it regardless of how hard they try.
I can't personally say I have watched a lot of vloggers in my life but Casey is definetly one that stuck right away for me when I saw one of his videos several years ago, they can be about absolutly nothing and still are just so good.
I have to confess I had to unsubscribe for a year or two because I did get bored of them after some years but when I came back I basically watched all of this content he had put up in those two years, no one can match his energy when it comes to editing and vlogging
I think plenty of people replicate his editing and style. It's the storytelling they can't replicate. His superpower is storytelling.
He’s truly brilliant
100% true.
As someone with ADHD, it was good to see you make such a good affirming piece about it. It's my super power, too. I've been very successful despite my challenge that many others see as "stupid."
You totally understand what procrastination really does to people but I’m glad you’re powerful enough to overcome it.
I still procrastinate and causes lots of anxiety. The more I think about problems and overwhelmed by it the more I procrastinate.
The editing as always is always the BEST thing on the internet. We see others doing similar but of course we all know you’re their inspiration.
ADD/ADHD is so misunderstood by those who don’t have it/experience it. For those who do have it, struggle with it, embrace it, understand that it IS a super power, despite the temporary setbacks that come with it.
Such a cool and brilliant video to showcase one of the fundamental aspects of ADD/ADHD ~ procrastination ~ Casey hit it out of the park well done.
dang I feel this one Casey!

Thank you Casey , it's a super power at times truly. When I tell people I have ADHD they fail to see the many upsides , and I too forget sometimes how much of an advantage it can be
Have been watching your movies / been inspired by your work for the last eight+ years, and have never related more to a video. Thanks for being you, Casey!
What helps me avoid procrastination is a saying my grandma used to say “if you’re going to eat sh*t, don’t nibble” it’s surprisingly effective. Hope it works for you 😅
This video reminded me of an article I read some time ago. It said: "If you don't plan your procrastinating / relaxing times, the procrastination will plan you". I think the key of balance is to take everything into account, not just what you need in that time. "Do I need to study but I'm actually tired as hell?" Okay, I will rest for a while, but also schedule my next studying time! Awesome content, Casey!
👌
Oh I so needed to see this. I'm exactly that - tired as hell to the point that nothing's going in and everything makes no sense so I decided to rest by curling up in bed with a Casey vlog :)
I haven't connected at such a deep level to a video in a very, very long time. Amazing video that really pushes me to think about my "hyper focus" periods a bit differently. I've been a bit hard on myself when these periods of procrastination arrive.
Wow!! Watching this video helped me realize that the things I suffered through for most of my life (55+ years) are actually something to accept and embrace. My teachers in school always marked me for “not paying attention/day dreaming.” Yeah, I was procrastinating, but I still got shit done, got married, have two wonderful (neurodivergent kids), and managed to build a successful career. Thank you for helping me accept myself as I am, superpowers and all. 🙏
He’s back when the world needed him most
I needed this today. Feeling a little overwhelmed about my ADHD diagnosis and this is 100% relatable and the fact that you see is as an advantage is an awesome perspective.
LOVE Jesse's work. It has helped me with soooo much! This whole ADHD "revolution" that I am seeing happening makes so much sense about so many of us creators. Thanks so much for speaking up on this.
It's just crazy how revisiting one of my favorite vloggers on youtube after many years to get inspiration in editing videos is so nostalgic! Seeing his videos again motivates me!
Full time creator here for over 10 years non stop 2000+ videos, so I know this problem, Hank Green put it best for me. “You will always struggle with not feeling productive until you accept that your own joy can be something you produce. It is not the only thing you will make, nor should it be, but it is something valuable and beautiful.”
― Hank Green, A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor
I love that! 💚 thanks
It's my day off today for doing an amazing job at my day job and I planned to spend it learning how to use a Adobe Photoshop and finish one of my songs and instead I've been watching UA-cam since 9AM (it's 3PM) and then I saw this video and decided this is the LAST one I'm watching before I start actually working. Thank you, Casey. Also, super cool first name.
Hifi
Same! Had to watch this one
So did you actually start working after you watched Casey's video?
I don't know what kind of stars are in line that caused you to make this video and for me to watch it, but I needed this big time. I am in a rut with my ADD that has gone on longer than every before, and it's thrown me into a bit of a depression. This was encouraging, inspiring, and validating. "Bend the world around my brain" is something I am going to try and implement in my thinking, instead of being constantly frustrated my brain isn't doing what other people's brains look like.
At the age of 28, reminiscing about my childhood, I can't help but remember the time when I was just a 10-year-old kid put on Ritalin by my parents. You know what's interesting? My dad, who's a pediatrician (and still rocking it!), firmly believes that Ritalin was the only secret weapon to survive elementary school. But let me tell you, elementary school felt like a curse, a constant reminder that my only path in life was to conform. It took me countless years to realize that I had unknowingly given up something extraordinary, my superpower, if you will. And you know what happened when that realization finally hit me? My life took off like a wild rocket, filled with unbelievable success, boundless happiness, and not a single regret in sight. I can't thank you enough for being a constant advocate, championing our unique abilities. You're truly making a difference!
Thnx chatgpt.
I'm 70 years old and been dealing with ADD all my life. I find that procrastinating gives me time to fully conceptualize and finalise ideas and then quickly execute those ideas fairly quick. Having taken the time to think things through allows for forethought of possible issues. It has been a gift that I learned to take advantage of. In the foregone days we were the people that heard every strange sound or activity and alerted the rest of the group to what was going on. Vital for primitive survival. Hyper hearing is one of the features of ADD that would drive the average person crazy. I can't tolerate crowds because I hear every conversation simultaneously, not like background noise but the actual conversations. There are as many advantages as disadvantages to ADD.
I put my hamster in a sock and slammed it against the furniture
I think you are going about this wrong. If you are planning and conceptualizing, then you are not procrastinating, right? Planning is part of the process of doing the thing. Some people (like me and you) prefer to fully plan out stuff in advance, to visualize how everything clicks together, go through all the possible scenarios, anticipate and plan for various circumstances, stuff that can go wrong, make a bulletproof plan....and then the execution is just following that plan, the incredible feeling when everything comes together and takes shape just as you visualized it, how the gears turn in harmony, it's like poetry in motion.
And then there are people like Casey, who come up with some brilliant but half-baked idea, immediately lunge into action, and then make it up as they go, dealing with issues and changing course as needed, always keeping an eye on the ball. The end result for both methods is usually the same, it's just the process that's different.
i agree, well said!
I'm in the middle of a challenge right now called Project 30 where I'm doing something creative everyday and documenting the process, and let me tell you...what Casey's saying about doing the daily vlogs consistently every day is so true! Obviously that's not exactly the same as what I'm doing, but by making a video everyday it's been helping me stay on top of tasks. Doing something that I'm committed to every day sets my mindset up for productivity for the rest of the day. I seriously recommend this to anyone feeling bored or unproductive!
Day 9 baby!!!! I feel like I've achieved more in the last 9 days than I have in the last 9 months!!!
As someone that just got diagnosed at the age of 23 with ADHD and that also works in the creative space as a video producer . I needed this video! Thanks Casey!!
I'm just chilling watching the video and then boom - you bamboozled me with that ADD gold. This was a fantastic perspective, Casey! I've been watching you for years... I had no idea your brain processed things just as mine, and probably millions more who watch your vlog. Really great advice and something to think about when we struggle with completing something big!
I LOVE Jesse's work. It has helped me with soooo much! This whole ADHD "revolution" that I am seeing happening makes so much sense about so many of us creators. Thanks so much for speaking up on this.
Been watching Casey since I was 13 years old and this bloke still has never skipped a beat with his storytelling within his videos I’m now 20 👊🏻
Damn, if you're an expert maybe ya can clue me in on what I missed, lol!
So last time I watched Casey, he was setting up a news network in New York? Then him and his wife moved to Cali, and he sold his studio?
I feel like I missed like 10 years worth of content, lol. He's buff, he's back in New York again. He got his old studio too? I wonder what ever happened to his news network business.
I'm glad to see he's still kicking around. I decided to randomly look him up tonight after checking out cameras, lol!
Needed this video Casey. You always drop things in crazy synchronous times for me. Thank you being you.
I procrastinate due to anxiety and then lean in and it makes me work harder and produces better work. Candace described it perfectly ❤ This is why I have to work for myself because it doesn't fit everyone else's 'structure' or the 'right' way. So, now that I realize this at the age of 40 deamed medically unable to work (fibromyalgia) and unmasking my ADHD, I'm finally doing my art fulltime and it's taken off like a rocket!! The hardest part is accepting the fact that I'm really amazing at it and people genuinely agree. Soooo freaky but worth it ❤
I’m happy that Casey is back putting work and time in his videos
Imagine how much more he’d be doing if we could crush the procrastination
It's good to see him back on UA-cam!
I look at these KC releases as a reminder to hit record. And every time I see it, it's such a great inspiration to get back on the vlog wagon.
This speaks to my soul! This is my life in a nutshell! Going to look this author up! Love that you deal with this and have learned to embrace it.
Ultimate New Yorker move: sees Casey filming a video, and walks around the tree without ruining the shot or bothering him.
Ive watched this video like 4 times. I love it. The music fits so well. The relatablility. The camera movement. The topic. Its just really enjoyable.
Just seeing this guy here over and over again gives me so much energy. Thanks Casey 🙏
As usual, another awesome VLOG, Casey! We all procrastinate at times, but we have to push through it. A little bit of action goes a long way! Keep on doing what you are doing! Nice superpower!
Wow just clicked on this vid (to procrastinate) and I've been on a recent journey discovering my own ADD recently and although I've seen many videos of the obstacles I share with everyone else whose brain works like mine I rarely see videos like this that emphasize the "superpower" that comes alongside this. Thank you Casey.
I saw this at the perfect time, this is exactly what I have been thinking to myself, I just needed someone like you to relate to as I no one relates to me.
You part about ADD made me a bit emotional. I’ve been diagnosed with this as an adult, just in the last year or so. It’s been eye opening and helpful to understand, but also often makes me feel like my brain is broken because “normal” things are a struggle. Knowing that you have it and have turned it into an advantage and have been as successful as you are helps me change my viewpoint. Thank you for sharing this and all the countless other nuggets of wisdom along the way! You may never know or see the impact you have on so many people, but there are tons of us inspired by you all the time. Thanks for that!
Exactly this. I was diagnosed in 2022 and have been learning to thrive with the support of medication now. Being able to take the pressure off me just a little bit has made me realise how much this can be an advantage, and I really feel grateful that Casey is a positive role model addressing that living like this is completely okay. I've been having a lot of guilt about my inability to commit to workplaces for more than a few years at a time, so this video turned up at the right time to reinforce this for me.
@@krissybee92 it's just a symptom of emotional trauma and the medication has awful long term effects. Look into Gabor Mate teachings about ADHD and trauma.
Framing ADD as an advantage is a very cool way to look at it. Just because something doesn't fit into what society sees as "normal" doesn't mean it's 100% bad
Couldn’t agree more m. Loved this video
I don’t think any other video on the internet has explained my perpetual state of mind better than this. Thank you for this Casey. Going straight to my homescreen.
I feel like a lot of your viewers will feel a strong personal connection to the subject matter. It would be cool if you dived deeper into this superpower aspect and how it helps you (and others?) tackle their every day lives. This would empower the ADHD community instead of weighing it down with all the usual tropes and negativity that everyone has already heard time again. Rock on 🤘🏽
Very late diagnosis 52 years old with ADHD, it doesn't fix anything for me, but it explains tons and gave me a reason to kind of chill about certain things.
Love this perspective. ADHD is definitely a super power if you can figure out how to not let the crippling frustration that accompanies it get you down. Also Jesse has a great podcast.
It's a great perspective!
This being neurodivergent is supper power is non-nuanced take that has much push back from within the neurodivergent community. Many within the community belives it dose less harm then good. This is because it's setting expectations that if your different then thier as to be some good that comes for it. This not the case in every situation.
This made me want to start making videos again, and now I’m motivated to keep it going! Thanks for the inspiration Casey, you’ll always be my main inspiration :)
Thank you for bringing myself, and I’m sure, countless others who struggle with this not-so-bnw concept regarding procrastination and/or ADD/ADHD in concert with their creative outlets; and how to work with them. 👏🙏💯
As someone who struggles with the ADHD/Bipolar disorders and I cant medicate for the ADHD for other unrelated medical issues I always love seeing the videos that pay attention or mention the neurological craziness that happens in our brains.
There are some non stimulant adhd meds that work completely different, and have an entirely different chemical makeup. “Ask your doctor if it’s right for you”
@@Mcm4 Will do. Ty

Harness your ADD/ADHD powers and be blown away by the insane experiences you get to be a part of. Don't let "normal" brains tell you you are a liability. They just see your powers as a threat. And you, Casey, are a manifesto to this reality. Proof that a hyper creative brain is capable of the most marvelous miracles. I had to find these things out by myself just as you did. But it made me capable of utilizing the same mechanism you describe. Bulls eye Casey 🎯
Wow, your passion really shows through in the video! I couldn't help but notice the veins in your neck - it just goes to show how hard you're working to make this happen. Keep up the amazing work!
I see it in comments below. And I know you've heard it before. But, you really do inspire so many people like myself. I've been slowly trying to push myself to starting on a short film I've already written. And seeing this pop up in my feed tonight really helped. Thanks again for the creative nudge.
i hope you started that short film :) much love, a fellow human
Been watching Casey since I was 13. Man he never disappointsss ❤
That's a pretty cool claim. My son turned me on to him when he was 13. And I suppose I too have been watching that long.
This video encapsulates the sheer genius of editing, shot creation and overall vlog production we missed while Casey didnt make NY vlogs for such a long period. Its so obvious and magical to see his style return now hes back in NY.
Not new stuff, but when Casey posts we watch.
I’m not “diagnosed” with ADHD although I’m sure I have it. I always thought of it as something that helped me multitask at work! Just dealt with my constant distraction otherwise… love that you point this out as a superpower!
Casey's story telling & video editing skills are so damn good 😘
Well now you know why 😂 buy the camera
As someone with ADHD, I respect how casey views the obstacle as an aid in his journey.
Instead of viewing this management of attention as getting in the way, embracing yourself (strengths, flaws, and weaknesses) IS the way
What’s crazy is that i saved this video to my watch later playlist right when it came out and I’m just now watching this
I literally had an awful panic attack earlier today that was triggered by my procrastination at work all week last week. I actually took today “off of work” to try and catch up on work and finish everything that I didn’t do last week, but instead I couldn’t focus on anything I was looking at on the computer.. which means, I procrastinated some more. I feel so helpless. Watching this video hit home so hard.
I’ve been dealing with ADHD my whole life, diagnosed at 12 and I’m 46 now. One thing I’ve come to learn is that if I’m procrastinating with something, it’s probably because my brain feels that task is inefficient or counter-productive. I try to stay in the sweet spot of doing things that inspire me to create and do more, and steer away or delegate the tasks that I tend to procrastinate on. Mowing the lawn? I pay a pro who absolutely loves mowing lawns. Jackhammering, core drilling, pouring concrete? I’m all about it. Designing new stuff in CAD? Oh golly, give me more, please. Intuitively investing in the stock market? Fantastic, bring it on. Painting my house? Shoot me now…but as it turns out my buddy Steve owns a painting business and he loves painting like I love 3D printing, and I will happily cut him a nice fat check to spare me that torture.
Geezus I could’ve written this.
The amount of history Casey has witnessed (and captured) in NYC is incredible
Casey can’t thank you enough for this video. You have been a huge inspiration to me and never found career success (mostly due to adhd) until I found the vlog when you first started thanks to a Gary Vee interview. Thanks so much for sharing❤❤❤❤
Yes! Thank you for making me not feel alone in this world. I recognize that I create in a way that you do and I don’t want to chase based upon the stupid results, when I just want to create.
Love the story telling
Nobody inspires me to make a new vlog like Casey! Glad to see a new video drop! Everyone remember to give the video a quick LIKE!!!

I was freaking out calling my parents and doctors worried I would be unsuccessful at my internship because of not having the meds etc knowing full well I had gone the first 19 years of my life with zero medication. i clicked on this video without knowing what it would be about and i am so glad I did. I've been waiting for this comment lol
The fact that you took the time to make the board is pure dedication to this video.
Omg thanks for this, I'm always beating myself for not being able to do things the "right" way, yet I do amazing things when I allow myself to do it my own way, at my own weird fragmented pace.
Watched 12 seconds and realized your point as I was doing it lol thank you! Tbh never was a fan but people I watched always spoke so highly of your content and style and energy and as a brand new fan finally getting around to checking the legend out I get all the hype immediately. Love your work sir!
I've been putting off doing a video idea for almost a month now because I know how much work it will take. This video has given me the motivation I need to get it done. Thanks
The swing between boredom and burnout relates A LOT (so much so that it inspired a video ha), and as you guide toward, it's about figuring out how to work in a way that works for you-we're all unique, after all, so there's no universal solution or "right" way vs "wrong" way.
Casey, youre such an inspiration man! everything you make speaks to me on so many levels. ADHA for sure, all day. thank you for this reminder, have been dealing procrastination a lot myself through the past winter and really was happy to see this. hope to cross paths someday soon. lmk if you need a pro beatboxer to test out some cool tech gear sometime
by the way do you know if theres a setting on that camera where raising your hand doesnt stop or start it? love it
Still trying to find a way to talk about bipolar disorder without people thinking I'm a broken toy. Thanks for sharing Casey!
I remember Charlie Brooker writing an article about how he could never get anything done unless he had an editor breathing down his neck and a tight deadline. I think procrastination is part of life for almost everyone. I also remember an interview with Graham Linehan about his writing process and his office had a sofa and a bookshelf full of magazines, and he said that he'd regularly take breaks to read something else, seemingly procrastinating, but that's part of the process. I'm currently doing a master's degree and I always think I want to sit down and read the 20 page journal article without stopping, but I always find myself coming up with any excuse to take a break. Make a cup of tea. Clean the table. Vacuum the floor. And I realised that's when I'm actually digesting and thinking about what I've read. Of course sometimes it ends up being spending 20 minutes watching a completely unrelated video and that's a distraction. But don't knock procrastination. 'Productive' doesn't always mean sitting down and working for 8 hours none stop.
Oh boy, I work for a large school district and this camera feature/tool would be great in some of our classrooms. Will be showing this around to several staff members…thanks for the quick how to on how easy it is to use!
TIME boxing and overloading your schedule. Creating urgency! The best part of my life when living a crazy busy schedule, was crawling into bed… just to do it all again the next day. Pure bliss.
I am so glad my dad refused to put me on ADHD drugs. He told one of my teachers once, "It's my job to motivate him and it's your job to teach him; I think he's motivated." Thanks dad!
man whatta nice video and ending. Not suprised i liked your videos in the early days of yutube and stumbling them again. Keep dropping those gems and knowledge ... the kinda thing i needed rn
