In two of the most expensive cities in the world, how far can $20 get you? Damon’s got €20 in Paris, and Jo’s got $20 in New York. Also, we hate writing in third person.

DamonAndJo j'adore c'est trop biennn 😍😍
DamonAndJo there's not a big difference. I still think living here in NYC is expensive.
DamonAndJo i live in nyc and you put all of my fav free places on there! I think its definitely do-able and worth it!
DamonAndJo you guys at #40 trending
OMG MY FAVES ARE #30 ON TRENDING😍😍😍😍😍😍
awe she was so sweet to that old man !! i love when strangers are so kind to each other
Koweity wa revois ton ortho
humans can live in harmony. we just choose not to.
Yes, you are right. I made this a habit. I always have nice small talks with stranges and they always made my day and I make theirs. I often complement other women about hairdo, necklaces, dresses, hats or shoes and this always makes them happy. I smile at children and I tell people they have beautiful dogs. I always ask the waiters or barristas how they are. And I call folks "luv" and "darling" and "angel" when I am in England. (You cannot do that here in Germany) It makes all the difference.
The old man at the beginning was so pure and sweet I can't handle it
Sarah I know right! Made my whole day Lol
You are so pure..
In Paris, people will be like « Ew, old ass perv »
Linh Marine wtf not at all
Marine O yes, oh yes
It still baffles me that the tax is calculated when paying in the usa, must be so damn annoying not knowing exactly what you have to pay until actually paying.
We all know what sales tax is it is. It's never a surprise some places don't even have sales tax either.
And you have to tip people in restaurants and taxis and other places maybe, not in stores though I think.
Waiters in restaurants make most of thei salary on tips and that's very rude not to tip them.
Annika Mol it’s not usually that bad because it’s easy to calculate, so i can easily find out how much i’m paying. tennessee sales tax is 9%, though mostly rounded up to 10. so for every dollar i spend, ten cents is added to the total. it may seem annoying to always make sure you have enough with tax but i like math lmaoo
It’s actually not that annoying
u think that sucks....we tax WAY more in Canada....
No matter how much money you own ; traveling will make you the richest
Niamh Vivier Wow, so True :)
I guess you’ve never traveled before
Love that! Just posted my NYC travel vlog! I would love for you to check it out! :)
Travels can make you richer in your memories not in your bank account 😂😂
I agree
But $20 isn’t the same as €20.....
*cries in european*
A HC 👏
$20 = €17,75 (€18,05 for now in november, 2019)
@@morganstud I cry even harder when I see big products with the exact same price in NA & EU
iPhone $1300 in NA and €1300 in EU, which is in fact $1500 for us 😭😭😭
scammaz to its peak
20€ is 83 SR cries in Saudi
@@Andromediens and we are already crying because 1300€ is too expensive 😂
Don’t do that in Australia, for 20$ you get a pancake and that it😂😂
G&T: apprenti pilote I live in Australia, and you can do lots of things for $20. What do you mean just a pancake? Are you some rich kid that only eats expensive pancakes or something?
Is australia that much expensive?
just going to pancake parlour will cost almost $20 wym
The AUD is pretty low like 0,66 euro, and live cost pretty high, everything is bit expensive because wages are pretty crazy (minimal wage is like $20/hours depends of the state). So Australia is expensive if you do not work here. Only alcohol in supermarket is crazy expensive
live in Melbourne and i can relate to that so bad loool
Omg! Can this be a series please!?! Especially when you guys are in different places! You can call it (if you need help with the name) Travel Cents (lol instead of Sense but pronounced the same. .you know? Right. Lol)
shante edwards we’re thinking the same thing 🙃
DamonAndJo
You should do it don't think just do!! I fully support you!!
DamonAndJo YES YES YES PLEASE DO! 🌹✨
I honestly felt like in Paris you could do more free stuff that was fun than in NYC. Also Paris was wayyy cleaner but both cities are pretty cool.
i live in paris and i've lived close to new york and i can tell you that paris is probably more disgusting but it depends on the district
Ahahhhhh Paris is cleaner on some districts, like the richest ones.
It totally depends :)
I have family in Paris and it is not clean and it smells like piss everywhere
Paris is sooo disgusting sometimes 😰 Only some rare rich places are clean 😐 Yesterday I was at the Arc de Triomphe and with my friend we saw a rat on the street 😂
Not all of NYC is dirty like that tho
Cost of life in Paris
Extremely Expensive : rent.
Relatively Expensive : food
Relatively affordable : Transportation (pass navigo, velib)
Affordable :
Movies (UGC pass)
Museums (one free day per month in most museums)
Sports (Swimming, Tennis,... when not on strike)
Concerts (Goes from free to very expensive)
Health care (Social security)
To sum up, you have a big entry price (rent), then you can live with almost nothing and still have fun.
That's dope thanks for the info
Well it depends of where exactly you are living. In the center of Paris it’s 7x more expansive then in the border, and if you live just aside Paris (wich still give you access to Paris’s Subway) it’s pretty affordable
you have to pay £20 alone in London to breathe
jasminesyears that s funny:)))
I was there too and I can confirm, London is expensive af. You pay 20£ there for existing.
I've been in London for 2 weeks as a french (kinda broke) tourist. I had to sleep in a cheap Easy Hotel (from Easyjet), after flying in an Easyjet plane and taking an Easybus from the airport :D. The cheapest and smallest hotel room you can find near the center of London.
To eat, everything was so expansive that for the evening meal I was buying takeway pizzas they bake at Sainsburys. It was the cheapest food I could find. And their pizzas are huge compared to french one! First time I took a big one and I could only eat half of it when I can eat a whole one in France. :D
I loved London though.
i live in London and i find London cheaper to live than Paris or even Brussels.. I do my groceries for 20 Pounds a week, if I eat out it is always around 10-15 pounds for a dish and a beer cost 3 - 4 pounds.. Not that expensive compare to the rest of European cities
Please don't scare me, i'm going there on an exchange program in September :
"They took out they trash dis mornin" - when people see me with my parents at the store
Erle Solås You made my day with this comment LoL
Lol
Do Americans actually just talk to people in the street (I live in Britain, we go out of our way to avoid people)
same in paris lol
Sameee when he talked i was like "go away dude, let the girl live -_- " but she answered to him 😹
inu san .Wow, Are Europeans really that anti social?
Miguel Angel Sosa Rodriguez it's not really like that, we just had so many problems because of (95%of thé time) men in the street...
Of course if someone asks me a direction or something he's looking for, there is no problem, but for strangers who accost you from nowhere , yeah it's just annoying..i walk on the street to go somewhere , not to be accosted by strange and insistent men😅
I dont say it's in every european country like that, but in France, yeah , it became like that 😅
And with the comment here, you can see in britain too😹
You can be social with people met during partys, or thanks to Friends, or during activities, but like that it's just suspicious , awkward and makes us uncomfortable
Miguel Angel Sosa Rodriguez not europeans, just people in general.
But yeah, in many countries in Europe we are extremely bitchy or annoyed and we don’t like to smile, or talk, but most of the time it’s in big cities.
It’s not that we don’t like socializing but huuuuu I guess we are pretty busy people so we prefer to not talk ?
I don’t know mannn x)
I love to compliment people on their clothes in the street xD
"Be a tourist in your own city" is a motto I totally live by. I have a lot of friends from my home town who never got to take advantage of all the cool sights to see and things to do in my city because it all seemed boring or "normal" to them. I've always been a big fan of trying out everything cool my home has to offer-tourist fun with the local insight to know how to ration your $$$ haha
We had to watch this in French class lmao
LMAO
Imao or Irmāo?
Lol😂
The random guy in central park at the beginning sound like Frank in shameless
hahahaha soooo true that's what i thought
Loool
Omg yesss. Love that, love thattt
Never knew you could have this much fun with $20 or €20. Both place look pretty exciting to be.
Karl Sookdeo hvhh
Karl Sookdeo go to NYC! x) I live in Paris and I went to NYC, that’s way too much fun😂😁
Look up vid. On living on $125.00 a week!! Farmers say you can’t EAT paper KITTY pies

Cela dit ça reste hyper superficiel quand même faut pas se leurrer.
SI on a "Hé Madame t'es trop bonne. T'as un 06 ?" :D
I lived in Paris for a year! I did spent mostly €15-20 per day. I ate and drank coffee at home, brought small bottle of water with me. Walked around Paris! Ahhhh I miss it a lot!
Rose Rosmarinus Labbe did the residents not despise you for speaking non-native French?

How can you not love them? Like I want to hangout with them. I’m going to Spain next week to study abroad so I was searching for videos on UA-cam and stumbled across DamonAndJo...I was up until 3 a.m binge watching their channel. By far best UA-cam travel channel out there!
Meredith Courtright $20 will get you far in Spain, in Madrid a metro card in $20 a month
For anyone reading this, the average monthly wage in Spain is around 600-700 euros. So everything has to be cheaper as a result of the much lower wages. Best food imo is in Italy and super cheap without the Chinese immigrants setting up Spanish/Italian cuisine restaurants that taste like crap like in Spain.
i loved this!
LUKE 👋🏼👋🏾
Hi luke!
Amo tus videos!
oh mon dieu luke korns 😂😍
Luke Korns I LOVE U TOO
In London you’d spend half of that just on transport
God omg yeah the tube is so expensive. The buses are so cheap though and efficient... I paid £1 per trip on my Apple Pay... maybe it was broken 😂
Caden Young thats the standard fare for any bus in London, sadly its not very efficient for travelling long distances. The traffic also is killer most often
Caden Young Buses are £1.50 with unlimited hops within an hour
God And it's sooooo nice being able to pay directly with your credit card, I wish we had that in Paris, I have to buy tickets everytime
Well in Germany they true us German people that we pay for the train or the bus. I didn’t pay for the bus or the train for like 10 years and I even take the train to different cities
Did yall notice that tiny espresso that he got
paris boujee life 😂😂, i'm french and i don't understand either i would rather go at the super market and do my own expresso
BeOne views it’s because he doesn’t know were to go
Its tiny but at least its real coffee Italy is even more tiny which makes obviously the coffee better true ones know I guess
Because it's true coffe and not dirty water
That's the correct size for a single espresso.
Sorry but that’s without the rent...!! I spent 3 years as a student in Paris with a stipend that paid 1000€ / month. I paid 700€ rent and had 300€ for living expenses, I spent most of the time in the bibliotheque nationale where café au lait used to cost 1,50€ and you get internet and comfy chairs as well as all the books in the world. It wasn’t bad but it was tight. I remember that time fondly though - when you have to count every penny you pay so much attention to things.
Rose N that’s cheap compared to what I pay for my rent and utilities in west America
Still cheaper than NYC... XD
You still got out a lot cheaper than you would have in NYC.
You lived with roommates or by yourself? That’s pretty cheap if so
Everyone’s saying it’s cheaper than NYC but $100 is 70€. $1 is about 0.89€. It might seem less but it’s not.
these videos brighten up my day
their senses of humours ahh I love them

Hahahha en Suisse avec 20.- tu peux te payer qu’un croissant et c’est tout 🤣🤣
C'est vrai!!! Especially in Zurich...
A bon?!
Meanwhile in Switzerland: 20 francs get you one sheet of toilet paper.
I went to Zurich, bought a 10 franc pair of pants at H&M, then went and bought a latte for 10 francs. It was insane....
Pardon 1€35 le pain au chocolat , il est en or ou quoi ?! 😂
“It’s beauty it’s great it’s Miss United States” 😂😂
Someone New *grace

I’ve lived in both Paris and New York and what I love about this is that this is how it really is. It’s not just the old fashioned buildings and expensive stores of Paris and the sky scrapers of New York. It’s super authentic which is nice to see.
Never been to Paris or New York, but I think love them both. I'm so happy you can have a good day for a little over 20$ or 20E.
Damon ate dinner and Jo didnt. 😐
Esperanzalynn *glass of wine for dinner*
Alcohol > Food when you're an alcoholic.
ahahah I loved this video so much! I live in ny and spent a semester in paris as well as visited many times, and for some reason I spend so much less money in Paris and lived in 7th arr! love both cities so so much
jaypoodle1 in the 7ème?! You're so lucky!
IWishILivedInTheUSA !!! It was an amazing 5 months! A lot of better clubs and bars on other side of seine but food and shopping etc amazing
I’m French, living in Strasbourg, France. I did this kind of experiment several times there, when feeling depressed or sad, just leaving my flat with 20€ in my pocket and nothing more. There is quite a lot of things to do with this amount of money in France, since you can find food for less than 5€, and things like theatre don’t cost much when you’re a student.
Well, I love living in France.
As an example, I usually have about 5/7 euros per day to live, cooking by myself and so on.
"Paris, I love youuu-- BUT YOU AIN'T SHII" lol I died of laughter
Editing these videos must be a painful process...
Rakalu stayed up until 5am, ripping our hairs out.
Rakalu I think they should do a "how we edit our videos" video. They can be interesting, especially since there's 2 of them. Bravo Damon & Jo, merci pour cette vidéo instructive !
This is such a good idea. I always hear people say that they can’t afford to go see the world. But you two are always proving them wrong.
Katie H As a long time viewer of the channel, I know they have plenty videos on how to save money booking flights and staying in hostels too. If you haven’t seen them, I highly recommend.
every time im stressed or anxious I watch you guys. I always watch you guys while I drink my morning coffee.

New York = is a short name and is originally English.
Nouvelle Orléans = is originally french, Americans translated it.
Victor Från Frankrike jurez que vous dites ça perso je dis New York mdr
i live in new york and last summer i vacationed in paris needless to say im broke in both cities
I went to Paris for a week and only spent 300€ on food and souvenirs together, and I live in New York so everytime I go to the city, I spend at least 70$ a day and it's HELLA expensive
Both are amazing though I can't choose but what I do know is that Paris is cheaper in my opinion 😝
Rachel 70 bucks a day?! What do you buy??? Bc in Paris it is actually very expensive since it everything is made in style
Rachel for 70$ hoy could have the most fun and eat amazing food all weekend in south Spain. And un Lituania you could live the whole week or even two 🤔
People in India, $70 is what they earn in a month.
So save it for the future, who knows when the world is going to end.
Honey, Paris is the second most expensive city in Europe, afeter London...
$20 would be a nice addition to my bank account 🙃
Bryce Antony Franco da Silva 20€ is more tho

by the way, in Paris you can buy a day ticket transport zone 1 2 3 for 4 euro ;) enjoy

Paris is not the most expensive city in the world..Oslo, Stockholm and Reykjavik are wayyyy more expensive
Yes , totally true and you have to add Geneva this city is really really expensive

The « pain au chocolat » Was pretty expensive usually it’s
i’m parisian and i’ve never seen one under 1€ usually it’s 1€20
It’s actually 1.10 to 1.60 it depends on what boulangerie u at
Omg I was like he's gonna have language barrier he's there speaking French fluently wow
What I get from this video is that Damon eats a pain au chocolat for lunch ^^
Masha I don’t remember pain au chocolat being so cheap either. He’s living
Caden Young his pain au chocolat actually wasn't that cheap, as Damon said usually it would be 1€10 it was just more expensive because he got it near the Eiffel tower :)
a pain au chocolat usually cost less than 1€
Masha actually Damon is the one in Paris and he had a Vietnamese sandwich, he had a croissant... and he is the only one who actually had a diner
soniaustralie They both had the same amount of meals and you can get something for dinner for around $4 or $5 in N.Y. Damon also had more money technically.
Omgeee that old man sounded cute af!

Caden Young 2€ is CLEARLY a tourist trap >.
Maïsso Bienvenue à Paris ~
This video is great but the comments are ridiculous. A city is a city. Citites are most likely expensive and dirty. Even though WE ALL KNOW there's few clean places in every city. I'm sure you can encounter talkative people EVERYWHERE on the planet. The only difference is cultutre & language, which is what I was paying attention too, but y'all love pointing out differences (negatively)too freaking much! Just enjoy the beauty of the differences. I love both these cities, with NYC being my hometown. I can get through an entire day with $10, you just gotta know where to go.
there are cities that have only a few places that are dirty.as a person who grew up in tehran i can’t STAND garbage bags laying all over the streets.
True tho!! I’m from Paris and you can get away with only spending 10€ and you’ll be doing all the cool touristy shit, just gotta know where and when to go v

Wow, what a clever idea!
Damn 1,39€ le pain au chocolat ! I wouldn't have taken it 😂😂😂 1,10€ is my limit
Mscupcakeforever21 everyone saying that’s too expensive in the comments but I paid so much more when I was in France. Like €2 or more each time. I guess I got really ripped off down in Toulouse...
Man, they scamed you ... Pain au Chocolat is 1€, maybe 1,20 € in luxury bakeries in Paris.
Well, you have "maxi Paint au Chocolat" and "Pain au Chocolat aux amendes" (with almonds), they cost more than 2€ but they're not classic Pain au Chocolat.
Caden Young God, people in regular boulangerie your pain au chocolat shouldn't be more than 0,90 ct! It can be a bit more for Grand/traditional bakeries, like 1,10 maybe...But paying 2€ is hella too expensive!!
I could just binge your channel all day
the voice in the toilette publique said "portes ouvertes" which means "door open" but the subtitles said "don't do that" and i'm laughing very hard
Jo!!! you have such a similar personality to Jane from jane the virgin lol
