I feel the need to add something really important: in today's capitalistic society people have the ILLUSION that WORKING HARD=MORE MONEY. But that's relative considering that the most hard-working people on earth are the ones (probably children) making our clothes, phones etc. and getting paid something like 1$ / week. Also, a person working a minimum wage job does not always work less hard than an entrepreneur. Making money should not be exclusively associated with working hard, but also with the concept of luck, the circumstances, the country you live in etc. That's also why in the grand scheme of things, money does not and cannot add to your value as a human.

El_ Mi I totally agree, money CAN bring comfort, security, and at some level personal happiness (like being able to travel, or going to eat out once in a while, treating your family members or friends..) but after a certain treshold the well-being money brings declines, and people become bored with the possibilities of it, while consuming more and more.

Exactly. Even having expertise doesn't counterbalance this otherwise doctors would make way more than CEOs. Capitalism relies on the hard labour of low paid workers. The higher up you go the less work is done. I work at a billion dollar media company and I know the chief does less work than those below him.

Obviously it’s great thes save some, but they should enjoy their young years still. My advice is that ; every saving is a saving, even if u save up 0.5 cents monthly, thats still going to add up into something later. So to make it easier on yourself, instead of controlling how much you’re saving, you could try to think about how much you’re going to spend.

If it makes you happy and you can afford it, I believe it is worth the purchase. 2. You are paying for the workspace, environment, and sometimes a little social interaction goes a long way. 3. I would rather be less well-off and social drinking good espresso than ~slightly more well-off~ alone drinking something cheap.

So that's VERY complicated for me to really have an idea of the cost.

I agree so much with that last part you added. We all deserve a baseline quality of life that is equal. And then we can reap the benefits of working extra hard if we want. We should also be part of our community, reward workers of the community and contribute to the community. We all need our mail given to us, our food grown for us, our health taken care of, etc. These jobs are so important. We need to reward more generously the jobs that serve our community and maintain the health of our community. We all need to be a part of it too.

Also just sayin, if you’re looking to move to Paris and this scares you, just saying spending so much isn’t a default it’s all about lifestyle! I personally spend around ~500 a month excluding rent.

In reference to what you were talking about at the end of the video, the sad thing is some people work very hard and are still in poverty. Unfortunately, capitalism doesn’t allow everyone who works hard to flourish, even though many people believe that to be true. I totally agree with your philosophy on money, though. I’ve found that even as I start to make more money, my happiness level is about the same and the amount of problems I have is more or less the same.

Reminds me of this quote: "The less you eat, drink and buy books; the less you go to the theater, the dance hall, the public house; the less you think, love, theorize, sing, paint, fence, etc., the more you save - the greater becomes your treasure which neither moths nor rust will devour - your capital. The less you are, the less you express your own life, the more you have, i.e., the greater is your alienated life, the greater is the store of your estranged being. Everything which the political economist takes from you in life and in humanity, he replaces for you in money and in wealth"

Chris Nice quite and I agree to some extent, I do believe in spending money to do hobbies, socialize, see art, support shops I respect, treat loved ones, travel with awareness... But what our society usually encourages is for people to spend whatever remains on possessions, not experiences, and most of them are superfluous and overpriced. I intend to be frugal for the next years, not because I want to make a pile of money, but cos I’d like to buy a house one day, in a region that is massively deserted tho quite beautiful, and I refuse to work overtime just to be able to spend more.

    • @chris8915
