[Stereo] Live performance from the group that spawned Mark Lanegan. Spot the black eye.....from a turbulent period of time for the group and Mr. Lanegan. Great sound, btw.
I love this ‘92 Screaming Trees performance on Letterman: The band was in a bar fight the night before so Mark Lanegan has a black eye, & the drummer dislocated his shoulder, so Steve Ferrone (Tom Petty’s drummer) sat in, having learned it minutes before! 👍🏻

R.I.P. 2/22/22 I just heard the news today. Screaming trees were from Ellensburg Wa. not Seattle. I was going to CWU (Central Wa.) in the late 80s and early 90s and fell in love with the area, people and the culture. Grunge was just starting to get a grip on us and what a great time it was. I was a football captain of the #1 rated team in the country NAIA div2, had a great team, group of friends and college life was amazing. Lanegan absolutely hated Ellensburg for the ignorant backwards cowtown that it was. Don’t take my word for it, read his memoir. The only reason he stuck with the Trees through all the grueling and unproductive early years was because of the hope that it might be his ticket out of Ellensburg. His patience paid off.
This is a testament to his badassery. The night before he appearently got drunk and high out of hid mind and a bar fight ensued. The next day this was recorded. I mean...who does that? Anybody else would not have done that show, but he did. I cringe thinking about how that felt to have to get up there with hangivet and black eye and do that. Most people and me included would be like --fk that. I aint going nowhere. 😂 lol And he did and he killed it with that performance too. Thats a real man taking care of business y'all, make no mistake. Long love Mark!

Once in a long while there are the right words, the right voice, the right musicians, and it all becomes perfection. And sometimes the best singing isn’t perfectly on key
True story;the night before that the Trees got into a fight with a few guys at the stone pony club in New Jersey. Eventually the guys walked away because they just couldn't knock the band down. Mark got hit in the face a couple times and had a small black eye on national tv the next night. I wonder what the other guys looked like after that. Rock and Roll man 🤘

I see alot of comments saying Screaming Trees were underrated. After the modest success of Sweet Oblivion their next record wasnt released for another 4 years. As a band they made alot of mistakes which hampered their exposure.
