I agree tbh ppl took this verse out of context saying that we can't repent of our sins. And they say if we repent of our sins, it means ur saying Jesus is a sinner
It's a fact of the text that God changes His mind. It's weird to try to argue against that. It's almost like you have a prior commitment to a philosophy which disagrees with the Biblical text and are twisting Scripture to make it fit. Food for thought
@@wishyouthebest9222 I mean, Mike does kinda put off that gay christian boy sorta of look like a couple of guys i knew in high school. like that one guy who is all about god and dresses super "religious" and proper and has that "moral superiority" attitude going on. Mike definitely is the most cringe preacher iv seen on here so far which sucks because thats just how he is but he is REALLY enthusiastic about stuff which comes off kinda cringy and gay and that laugh omg lol
This makes sense! I’m reading about Rahab and this can explain why God spared Rahab and her father’s household, even though God charged Joshua to destroy Jericho. God does NOT contradict himself. He is merciful. He wants to end corruption and desires people to turn to Him. God is AMAZING!
Another necessary and useful teaching. When God repents it’s not because of a knee jerk reaction but it’s all part of the plan. Man without spiritual eyes is sometimes too myopic to understand God’s ways. Thanks for expounding
@@rob5462 whatever are you talking about? In such a way as what? What Mike said or what I didn't say? And these days calling something a straw man is a straw man and it's just plain lazy. Sharpen up my friend.
@@nikao7751keep up, man. In your OP you claimed that people say God changes His mind in a "knee-jerk" reactionary way. That's strawmanning the position, because people who argue that *God changing His mind is a fact of the text* would never characterize it in that way. We would say rather that God updates His chosen course of action as circumstances change, since He is holy and knows what's best in any given situation, and situations in the real world are always changing.
Thank you so much for what you do Mike. I've found myself in a heavy position, four loved ones who once turned from God or turned to false teachings have started coming to me with questions and testimonies about their struggles with faith. I can't explain how all this happened, I honestly don't want the burden of helping others in fear that I could teach them wrong, your chanel helps me slow down and focus on the Word of God, His Truths and the big picture. Prayers please, my fellow brother's and sister's in Christ these people need our prayers so much.
Be in Scripture, pray hard, and rely on God. Just be yourself and share why you have your faith. Let the Holy Spirit do the work, and put your trust in him. What a pleasure it will be to know you were used by God to bring them back! :) Oh, and Mike is awesome (even if I don't agree on all things)
Dont be scared to tell them that you don't know everything and you have some of the same questions as them. Stay humble and answer their questions as best you can. You'll do fine.
I understand where you’re coming from. This channel is amazing for so many questions already. If you cannot find the specific questions of your loved ones in Mikes videos, let us know, maybe we can help. And you can also send your questions to Mike for his live video’s. ❤🙏🏼
@macolyis This is seriously the funniest reply I have ever had in my life. I was reading it to my daughter a minute ago and we were laughing so hard I was almost crying. I hope you never delete it.
@macolyis You have no way of knowing anything about me except that I think your conversation with Millet has been kind of nutty, and I briefly alluded to that. Yet you proceed to enumerate all sorts of various, specific sins that I am supposedly guilty of. From my perspective, your religious convictions are pretty outlandish. I don't agree with everything Millet said either, but you are really way out there. I don't think you have a demon, and I don't think you're crazy in the legal sense that you're a danger to yourself or others. But your beliefs are sort of nuts, and I think you might do well to listen to others, before presuming to know everything, particularly the sins of others. If you seemed to me like a level-headed guy, I might like to dialog with you on some points you brought up. But I don't. I do wish you the best, and thank you again for brightening my morning. I have to go to bed now.
macolyis it's good to get insight from others when there is so much confusion. I listen to other pastors too and some good faithful priests for that matter. But I do know I should be reading the word of God more. faith is a journey but I am just calling out for the truth. I like this pastor. He is humble and does not claim to have the answers to everything. If he is unsure he says so. unlike false preachers.
During service this evening the guest speaker said, “God changed his mind” about Saul implying that God made a mistake. I knew this was incorrect but, didn’t know how to carefully and accurately explain the truth to my kids afterwards. I’m so grateful for your carful and detailed teachings. May God bless you and all your efforts in teaching God’s word. I pray He continues to give you wisdom and strength. Thank you brother.
Why does changing your mind necessarily imply that you've made a mistake? Can't you update your course of action with changing circumstances without being in the wrong?
Thank you! My daughter was reading Genesis on her own and came upon the passage you mentioned and while I tried to answer her questions I feel this equips me So much better to go over that with her again.
@@pauleng883 the other I realized just how fascinating this world we live in is. It's interesting how everything that happens whether it's the weather or the animals they all play a part and are connected somehow thru either thr food chain or symbiotic with onr another. The revelation from god doesn't have to be some big spectacular miracle coming down from the sky. It can be something as simple and as beautiful as the world we live in
Mike, thank you so much for this teaching! I was tripped up this morning reading Exodus 32:12 because I already had Numbers 23:19 in the back of my mind. Thank you for making it clear what it means when God "changes His mind." It is so unlike how we change ours! May God continue to bless your ministry to bless many others.
I had a Pastor that his daughter wanted to become an actress. Well she wanted to enter auditions. My pastor, knowing that God had other plans for her, and knowing the filth and moral risk in that industry had to support her in her decisions. Well long story short she returned devasted that she confronted rejection, and immoral offerings that it made my pastor sad with regret that he allowed her to enter this experience. But it was a regret in pain and not in action. My pastor would let her do it all over again lest she wouldn't learn for herself.
Thanks Mike!! Excellent job - so glad you included Jer. 18 in establishing the principle of how God is always the same in dealing with us. The flashlight illustration was the best !!!
So very good Pastor Mike. This explains a lot to me sitting here on Easter night during this time of quarantine. It reminds me of 2 Chronicles 7:14 ...... IF my people who are called by name will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, THEN I will hear from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land. IF/THEN. God surely does love us and he himself does not change - we must. Good word for tonight. Thank you.
Thank you Pastor Mike…Blessed God has given you much wisdom in proclaiming HIS Word . I am 73 been following Jesus ..repented /redeemed /baptized since age 5 and I NEVER stop learning from hearing GOD’s Spoken word This was wonderful to listen to ❤
So powerful. Great explanation. God doesn't change His mind/repent because of His mistake but because if man's failures, or man repenting, where's man repents because of the mistake man does. Hallelujah.
Your the man Mike! We often think there is a simple answer because of modern philosophy, that doesn’t mean there are no complex answers to complex questions. Take that mankind!
You are such an awesome teacher. I appreciate your helping me understand the Bible and what it teaches us about God. Keep up the good work. God bless you
Mike I enjoy listening to you, you really study the word in depth. It’s good to see a young man so steeped in Christian apologetics and not willing to compromise but to search for the answers within scripture as scripture proves scripture.👍👏😍 God changing His mind is really not about changing His mind it’s about allowing the people mentioned in scripture to participate by having a discussion with them, this is why God created humans so that He could have a relationship with us. Conversing, discussing, communicating is what helps us all to have a relationship with God/Jesus Christ so we can get to know Him, His ways, His plan, His heart and love Him that’s what relationship is about. Everything about scripture is to get to know God/Jesus Christ that’s the beauty of it.👍🤭🤫
Big thanks to @Sarah Zimmerman for directing me to this video during the 20 Questions Live Stream today. I have been wrestling with these passages, especially Jonah 3:10 and Exodus 4:24 in light of the truth of God's immutability and omniscience. Thanks @Mike Winger for your in-depth teaching, your care with and proper handling of the Scriptures. This video stirs up my gratitude for God's mercy, steadfast patience, and the gift He gave us of our free will to obey or rebel against Him. Yet, in all these things, He knows everything, reigns supreme, and is not surprised by our choices though they may grieve or please Him. The Holy Spirit is faithful to convict us of our sins to repent and guide us into holiness if we allow Him to do so.
Pastor Josh just got done with a sermon on this very subject. Gods nature never changes but the Bible clearly shows God having an ability to change His mind depending on our prayers and actions.
Barbara Lockhart "God is Love. He is the Creator. Everything he creates is perfect at the start." Finally a logical thinking Christian. My same sex common-law partner and I thank-you.
It was, (repent), a very poor word choice in regard to the Holy One. No one Loves more than God and no fault can be found in Him. God does show mercy. When the people of Nineveh from the greatest to least reacted with repentance to Gods message of destruction God relented and showed mercy. But Gods judgments are righteous. Jonah was angry at that. But God replied, "And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left--and also many animals?"" Interesting Jesus brought this up in His rebuke of Israelite's. The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and now something greater than Jonah is here. Repentance is a change of heart to choose the right and reject the wrong. People who receive light will be held accountable by God if they continue in their sin. For the gospel message is a light to all nations with the hope of eternal life as well as the wrath of God for those who love to do evil and refuse to repent. With light comes accountability. God warns and warns upfront but in the end ,just as He did with Israel, who refused His words and would not listen to Him, He showed Himself Holy. Likewise Rev 11 will be a last sign that can't be mistaken (1260 days) before the beast is in the world and the great tribulation takes place. If anyone in those days has even a shred of love for God they will believe and repent but those who take joy in the murder of Gods two witnesses will be deceived into believing the lie of the beast and will be condemned with the beast.
@@theduke6174 Congrats! You're very perceptive. "ummmmmmmm same sex?" Yes...As in Gay and extremely happy. She does say that "Everything he creates is perfect at the start." I'll roll with that.
Man's Free Will is the Greatest Gift of God to Man, second only to Life. The depth of His Love is unfathomable when we begin to realize how much Divine disappointment, repentance, grief, regret, change of mind, etc that He willingly exposed Himself to, just so we can have our Free Choice.Could He have done it your way?Yes, but He didn't!
God's foreknowledge, it's not based in what we are going to do, rather it is based in his response to anything we might do. If I tell my children that when they misbehave I will discipline them, that doesn't mean I know what they're going to do, instead of a predestined to plan to handle whatever they do.
The wonderful gift of Free Will is a double edge sword. We constantly disappoint God. He knows the out come but gives us choice out of His unconditional love. He let's us make terrible choices and still offers His love and forgiveness
This makes me think of how parents want to have babies. They have the babies knowing that the baby will grow up to become an adult. Yet, as they watch the baby grow up, they feel sad because their baby is going to leave them.
Repenting does not automatically equal repenting from sin it just means to turn one way from another way that you may have previously been. This has been one of my biggest pet peeves with people who don't understand that the word repent in the Bible is not referring to just repent from sins. It's suggested you should repent from your sins but repenting is really just turning away from something whether it be a decision you were going to make and then you made another decision or whatever the case but doesn't necessarily include sin every time it is used
Just remember , every preacher , teacher is telling you what they believe . Read and discern for yourself , a little at a time . If your heart is right the Lord will guide you , this is FAITH . The book is a guide to life . God put man on earth to live unto HIM and fellow man . So do your first job . Life is a special thing so honor it and be thankful .
Well put Jim. All our truths are partial to a bigger truth and most ppl preach with their own desires driving them . Use ppl for learning how different ppl see things but also hear "call no man teacher" like I said very well put brother
Chuck Butler you reminded me of a scripture. “For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.” I Corinthians 13:9-10 NKJV Also regarding knowledge and teachers, another scripture comes to mind. “But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:8-12 NKJV So yeah, no man shall be looked on as a teacher but rather a brother (or sister) who is also trying to find their way. So it’s very healthy to keep an open mind and listen intently on what other people bring to the table. Our differences may hurt or afflict us because of how important our faith is but we should be careful of speaking under self righteousness. Discern Christ’s teachings and nurturing one another is the best thing we can do regarding understanding scripture. This is how we can grow together in our faith of Christ.
@@carbon273 I also appreciate your kind approach( I have so many people just attack me thinking "their understanding is perfect and anyone different must be wrong" As mush as I study I still know there's always room for growth. Jesus was killed by people with hard hearts who weren't willing to grow in understanding. As believers we should always know there's more to know and have kind exchanges as we've had.
What the entire plain text of Scriptures says include (1)God knows all realities as realities, and He knows all possibilities as possibilities.(2)God decrees certain things as non negotiable.(3) God mercifully allows for interaction with Man, fully prepared and aware of ALL possible Divine disappointments and joys resulting from Man's choices.
Bro' ! The "flashlight in the dark" was the BEST metaphor I have EVER heard about describing the Unchanging God reacting to our ever changing ways ! Brother Winger , you really were sooo inspired by the Holy Spirit there !!! Praise the Lord for that golden nugget of biblical truth !...

DUDE TOTALLY! I am so using that analogy! That was brilliant! I think God has truly blessed Pastor Mike with wisdom. (Sorry for the "Dude", I'm a Californian lol)
@demi- dogg Scientific studies miss the point of prayer, as if God must act when people pray. He has no obligation to and He only answers if it is His will. Trying to study and measure prayer in a scientific experimental way is detestable and God is not bound to act simply because people are doing a study on prayer. 1 Timothy 6:20-21, "O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called “knowledge", for by professing it some have swerved from the faith..."
@demi- dogg Cool, I'll take on your challenge. Forgive me if I sound confrontational, I do not mean to. 1. That is utterly fallacious. Why is supernatural called supernatural? Because it is beyond the natural; literally from the Latin word "supernaturalis" meaning "beyond nature". Therefore, you cannot measure what is supernatural by using the same methods you would use to measure the natural. It wouldn't be supernatural if you could treat it like something natural. 2. "What's the Harm?" proves nothing. I didn't say God answers all prayers, did I? The frequency of the answer does not mean it does not happen. That's like saying "Oh, only a few people have gone to outer space, that means it doesn't exist." 3. Love how you call me incredibly arrogant for trying to speak for God when you yourself said He doesn't answer prayers anymore by saying "Maybe he used to, then." Let me quote you a verse about prayer. 1John 5:14-15 "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him." Huh. It doesn't seem like God answers all prayers, does it? As I said, if it is according to His will, He will do it. We are not the gods and masters. He is not bound to our will, we are bound to His. 4. And why would God need to adapt? He is perfect. Does a perfect God need to adapt? If He needs to change for the better, then He was not perfect. Humans need to change because we are not perfect. For us, to change is a good thing. For God, it's not needed. 5. If I made a knife and sold it to a murderer, would I be at fault for the murder? If someone hit somebody with their car, is it the car manufacturer's fault too? Maybe it's the parent's fault for producing their child? It is wrong to insist that God is not good because He made Satan. Free will exists and God did not force Satan to be evil, did He? Therefore, it was Satan's fault and he bears the full responsibility of his rebellion.
Be felt saddened because of his compassion for man and wants everyone to be better and will allow you to be changed. God doesn't make mistakes, man does, but he wants us to repent and he is very compassionate on those that humbly come to him. God does not seek to destroy, we bring it upon ourselves, he wants us to live in his creation and be free of sin, but we rebel and action has to take place or else everyone will become corrupt, though it still painful for The Father to punish the children. God is Good. We don't deserve his compassions, but he has it for us. Glory to God and Holy is his Name.
I appreciate so much you dealing with this topic. My dad has been struggling with that Genesis passage for a very long time and I think this helped to clarify some things for him. I was trying to explain how to him and my mom that it's not God who changes because he is consistently always a god of love and justice. It is man who is either in his will or out of his will. The time you took to explain and walk through those passages really helped to clarify in ways that I could not
I felt like he had to mental gymnastics himself through all the passages. Good on him for having enough humility to change his views since this sermon.
@Lincoln & Welland Regiment are you talking about Mike? I'm not sure why you think that way, but through discernment and reading the bible I will say Mike has been teaching the truth. I don't see ulterior motives. Jesus sent his apostles into the world and it was by the people they taught.. their needs where met. Mike is teaching the Gospel and we are to meet his needs just as we do with our Pastors...not to mention Mike is humble and not in expectation of anything. Which is testimony that Mikes total dependence is on God.
@Lincoln & Welland Regiment I don't know who will or won't burn, but I can say you need to search yourself and see if you are right with God. It's easy to fall into the pharisee way of thinking..ignoring our own sin. They even where blaspheming the Holy Spirit because their own agenda blinded them.
@Lincoln & Welland Regiment I believe some of what you do, but disagree with you about Mike. I do not believe he is in error..he teaches from the Gospel. You however have to go by what you believe this or that is..mixing truth with error. So I'm siding with the Gospel and trusting that I'm saved by Jesus alone.
You know i think this message brings a WHOLE new and even more Amazing and Beautiful meaning to Jeremiah 29 11 Even though this world, you are in rebellion; God in his Sovereignty has a plan for us, not for evil, but for Hope and for our Good, and what is more Good than Eternal salvation through Faith in Christ Jesus :D
It’s sad that people are afraid to just say the truth. There is no point to write passages like this if they don’t mean what they say. Open/theism is true.
6:44 Mike argues that the use of "repent, changed His mind " is different when used for God.Mike explains what "repent" means, as used for Man, and he explains what it is NOT, when used for God.Would Mike be kind enough to clearly explain what it DOES mean, when God uses it on Himself , in His Word?
GOD IS IMMUTABLE, never Changing the same yesterday, today and forevermore. Look at it this way, let's just use the would sorry. There was a very old man who needed help cleaning out his garage, so his Neighbors teenage son volunteered to help and the oldman said he would pay him for his help and so while they were working in the garage the teenager climb up a ladder to go in the attic and fell down and was rushed to the hospital and was paralyzed from the was down. Now how do you think the old man felt? He was very sorry. He wish he would have never wanted help because that would have never happened. So do you think he would look the boy in the eyes and just say "sorry" It was s mistake not his intention if The Old man Could just trade places with the boy, he is young an got a whole life ahead of him, he was robbed if all that, so the old man TAKES RESPONSIBILITY MAKE THINGS RIGHT HE MAKE A MISTAKE..now his heart is in the tight place God as our Eternal Father knew I advance what it would cost him and his children by giving them free will, the separation, pain and suffering rebellion and death all that comes with being a human. So when God Said he sorry/regret and or repented unlike the old man when God says sorry or better yet Repent which means to "change the way you think" He did literally by Taking possession of a flesh body and walking as a man for man to furfill everything God the Father has acquired. Rectifying all the wrongs that man has done, so God took responsibility for their actions by becoming man in Jesus he sympathizes with them and the curse that was put on Adam, God place on himself on the cross. So that How God said he was sorry by demonstrating through his action,so if repent means to change the way you think, to change your view by getting a different perspective then God definaltly did that, From Heaven view to Earth. So everything man went through on Earth as God he couldn't experience because hes perfect and holy a God cannot cannot feel like a human unless you become a human and that is love
I think reading the Bible in context is important. Key is to understand who is speaking to who and about what. This is what I understood... 1. In 1 Samuel 15:11 GOD is letting Samuel know that he regrets(feels sorry) that he made Saul king since Saul has rejected the word of GOD. 2. In 1 Samuel 15:24-25 Saul is accepting his sin and is pleading Samuel to somehow make him right with GOD. 3. In 1 Samuel 15:26-29 Samuel is telling Saul that GOD has already made the decision and that he is not a man that he should change his mind or regret taking the decision to de-throne Saul. So I believe GOD is not contradicting himself. Let me know if this makes sense.
Differing with Mike is not just stubbornness. We are all endeavouring to understand the scriptures and what they reveal about our Lord His nature and character.
In explaining Exodus 32:14, John Gill wrote: “Not that any of God’s thoughts or the determinations of his mind are alterable; for the thoughts of his heart are to all generations [Psalm 33:11]; but he changes the outward dispensations of his providence, or his methods of acting with men . . . and this being similar to what they do when they repent of anything, who alter their course, hence repentance is ascribed to God, though, properly speaking, it does not belong to him.”
Been reading that whole section of the bible about King David and this was perfect timing as I remember reading about God repenting about Saul and I knew you had covered this topic and meant to listen to it. So blessed by this! And that flashlight analogy was brilliant! And the "Dude" thing, as a Californian it made perfect sense to me. I admit I still use "Dude" daily. lol
A friendly Disclaimer on Pastor Mike's teaching: It's important that we aren't taking this wrong and anticipating for God to completely give us everything we want in our lives just because we begin to do good. God sees the bigger picture and knows just what is needed for us to endure and grow in faith all the way to the end, when we recieve salvation. Good things in life are unfortunately never guaranteed, even if we are doing everything correctly. A prosperous life can only be found if God wills it for us. This teaching can easily be taken wrongly in today's world as prosperity gospel, if we are not spiritually sound. The bottom line is this, sin will always bring pain and unnecessary stress in your life and things will become much easier if we follow Gods will, but expect more trials! Always remember that doing the right thing doesn't save us from all of the everyday pain and problems that comes with living, not to mention living against the ways of the evil one at that! True happiness comes from excepting the trials with joy and hearing what God is saying to you and others within them. This is how we develop long suffering and true character in the lord. Faith comes through endurance and reliance of God within the midst of trails my friends. God bless.
Wow, it's no coincidence that I stumble across this video today. I have had a passage in the bible that has been bugging me for quite some time now. Exodus chapter 32, verse 14 ( KJV ) " And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people " I am really new to the Bible but have learned so much truth about it. I guess I should shut up and press play haha :)
What if gods repentance is to each sin we commit. Every single time. We should follow gods lead. Repent any and all imperfections (lies, mean thoughts, bad words, evil actions.
Wow, how crazy is it that I'm listening to a sermon given by Marcus Rogers and about 20 or 30 minutes ago he ready the passage that says God Repenteded, and the thoughts started surfacing in my head, wondering about it and then i look at my phone and an hour ago this was posted. And not to mention im there listening to Marcus and somewhere along the way Mike you came to mind and i imagined at some point in the near future I'd be asking if you've ever heard of him or seen his channel. This is strange, but more so just pretty cool hahahaha
I feel like it really says a lot that God grieves so much over sin that the best language to describe this grief is “repent” It really goes to show just how bad sin is.
Can you help answer this: If God knew/planned for the sinfulness and salvation of man through Jesus, why is he deserving of worship/praise for "fixing his mess" or saving his people? It's like throwing a person who knowingly doesn't know how to swim into a deep pool, then jumping in to save said person, and expecting praise because you saved them.
I like the flashlight illustration. I have heard and like the pinwheel disc illustration. Two circular cards, one one top of the other, held together in the middle by a brass brad. The top card has a slit with an arrow on it from the center to the outer edge. The bottom card has listed the attitudes of God. . When you turn the top card to an attitude or action of man the slit reveals the action of God based on his attribute. The bottom card, God, doesn't move. It's only the top card, us, that moves. Which reveals God doing a different response. God doesn't change his 'mind' only his response. Hopefully this makes sense?
Basically, God has boundaries. He says that if we do X, he'll do Z. If we don't he won't. When we don't, he doesn't. When we change, and do .. he (changes, and.. ) does 🙂🙏
@@elizabethryan2217 what? You said that God says "IF we do X, He'll do Z", indicating that God knows the future as uncertain and open to possibilities. He adjusts His decisions as circumstances change. How did I misrepresent you? How could you reconcile God using the word "IF", with the idea that God has EDF (Exhaustive Definite Foreknowledge)? Why not accept the plain reading of the text, namely that the future is partially open?
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” Numbers 23:19 KJV
@@abrahamwatson8040 Uh, did you even bother to watch? He mentions this verse. God does not repent in that he did something wrong so he changes his mind. He repents as in he decides not to do something that he was going to do. He said im going to do "this". he was literally going to. then because of our repentance he said now I will not do that. that's what the bible says you are not arguing with this man but the word of God.
This is pretty much a straight up calvinist teaching. We were not individually predestined to be saved by Christ. Rather God predestined that Christ would save those who respond to the gospel. It's a completely different kind of foreknowledge.
My understanding of Calvinist teaching is that it actually IS individuals who are predestined for salvation or wrath, rather than “anyone who responds.” I know Mine has a whole video on that.
It's like how God asked Adam if he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God already knew. I believe these types of passages in scripture was worded so for our benefit. 😊
It seems to me that God asked Adam so that Adam would have to decide if he would be honest. The same as when you ask your child if they did something, that you know they did, you are looking for them to be honest with you
God dosent need to repent or compromise, he is infallible all knowing . He is creator and judge. Thankfully he is loving merciful and full of grace.and gives us a choice wich makes love possible
Great video, Mike! I came upon Genesis 6:6 (God regrets making man) and figured it was time to watch this. Just an additional thought. Since God exists out of time, then He experiences time in a way that we don't. This would, I think, support that God does not change His mind, but planned to do it all along. But that is just conjecture, hahaha. We'll know the full truth once we get to Heaven.
Can you prove from the Bible that God exists "outside of time"? If you can't then that is the true conjecture. Does God actually change His mind? If He does, then He can't be outside of time.
@@contemplate-Matt.G If God didn't exist outside of time, then time would have had to exist alongside God. This cannot be the case since Genesis 1:1, it says in the beginning. In other words, when time began. Time cannot begin if it existed alongside the eternal Creator who existed before anything else did. So then therefore, since time was created by God, He would have to exist outside of time. This is the same logic we apply when we say God is immaterial. Since God created matter, then He must be immaterial for matter did not exist in the first place before He created it. We see throughout the entirety of Genesis that God is sovereign and that His plan will happen no matter what free willed humans do to hamper or achieve it. I think Mike's flashlight illustration in the video explains it pretty well. God does not change, but we do. We sin, God is displeased. We come to Him, He is pleased. That remains constant. Just a further note though, take the incident of the Israelites making their golden calf while Moses was talking to God. Why did God tell Moses, "I have seen this people, and behold, it is a stiff necked people. Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them..." (Genesis 32:9-10). Why didn't God just do it? Let me posit this: He didn't really will it to be so. Could it then be possible that God, who is all-knowing and timeless, knew that Moses was going to intercede for the Israelites if God told him He was going to pour out His wrath? And could it be possible that it is this intercession that made God, from the human point of view, change His mind? I do not mean to be argumentative or confrontational with this comment. I'm very open to discussion on this. May God lead us to the truth, for all wisdom comes from Him.
@@solideogloria3602 I'm always happy to discourse with open-minded believers. "In the beginning" doesn't have to mean when time began, otherwise, it would say "at the beginning of time". The truth is "time" cannot have a beginning. If it did, there would have to be a point in time where there first was no time and then there was time. Therefore, "time" is a prerequisite to its own existence. God can only change His mind regarding beings in "time" if He is also in "time". But "time" is not a creation nor is it a "thing" as the atheistic scientists try to convince us. They say you can warp time, travel through time etc... But "time" is not a medium. In the Bible, God is patient, not willing that any should perish. Jesus waits at the right hand of the Father, And God sent His Son in the fullness of time. When God took on Human flesh, He took on another nature. He wasn't always a man but became one. This means God has a past, a present, and a future.
@@contemplate-Matt.G Glad to hear that! Let's be civil, hahaha. A lot of times, as I am sure you and I have both experienced before, these threads devolve into chaotic messes. Hopefully, that does not happen. Well, let me point you to a few verses. John 8:58, "Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I am.”" Wait, I am? Shouldn't that be "I was"? Well, grammatically that should have been, but that is not what Christ was saying. Jesus Christ, who is God, said that before Abraham was (notice the was), He is. Not only is the Lord Jesus claiming deity, He is claiming that He is eternal; that God exists outside of time. This echoes Exodus 3:14, "God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.’”". Revelation 1:8, "“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”" How can God be He "who is and who was and who is to come"? Let's dissect that. "He is" - He exists in the present. "He was" - He exists in the past. "He is to come" - He exists in the future. If God simply is, or He simply was, or He simply will be, then that would obviously mean God is bound by time. That's not how He describes Himself though; He was, He is, and He is to come - all at the same time! So then, He is not bound by time and must therefore be outside of time. Psalm 90:4 says, “For a thousand years in Your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.” So, God experiences time differently. Peter reaffirms this in 2 Peter 3:8, "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." 2 Timothy 1:9 acknowledges that God is before time ever was. "...who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began," Furthermore, days and nights are time references in Genesis 1. Who named them and made them to be so? God did. "The truth is "time" cannot have a beginning. If it did, there would have to be a point in time where there first was no time and then there was time." Before time, God is; and it is this God who is that made time begin. So, we have before time and when time began. Jesus Christ taking on human nature doesn't necessarily mean God has a past, present, and future. It just means that Jesus Christ's human nature had a beginning. His God nature was, is, and will be eternal. This is the same as saying Christ the man died but Christ the God remained eternal. God bless!
@@solideogloria3602 So, of course, I've read all of those verses many times with a different take. I will say that for the first 20 years of my salvation, I also though God lived outside of time. That changed six years ago when I decided to try all of my doctrinal beliefs against the Word. I agree as you stated that God is eternal. But here's where I see the disconnect, you equated eternality with timelessness. "He is claiming that He is eternal; that God exists outside of time". Read your statement again and see. Eternal means no end and no beginning. This has nothing to do with time. As Paul writes, the gospel was preached before to Abraham. But Paul isn't speaking in wooden literal terms here. That Abraham would be the father of many nations actually became the new covenant, where God would ultimately forsake one nation for the sake of the world. That's how I take "Abraham saw my day" because in actuality, Abraham just simply believed God at the time and knew nothing of the God man Jesus. Your second point seems to prove my point. God has a past, a present, and a future. That's "time". By the way, I tend to put "time" in quotes because I don't see the word as most use it. Most use it as if it's a thing that exists. What is "time" anyway? It's a term of measurement. think of a tape measure. On it are lines of delineation. I can point to an inch but does an inch actually exist? "Give me some of your time" ......Can you give me an inch? It becomes a figure of speech. You can't literally give me an inch because an inch doesn't exist. Nor can you give me time because "time" doesn't actually exist. The Word says "God is love". So did God create Love? Or was love always there? God is love....therefore God did not create love. Nor did God create time. "God experiences time differently" . Thank you for that. I agree that God experiences "time". He's not "timeless"...just eternal. And someone eternal looks at 1000 years as a drop in the bucket. It's just perspective. We take individual death so hard but God doesn't quite see it the same because He sees the big picture. We have to train ourselves to know when things are wooden literal and figures of speech. If I say "I see the big picture", it simply means I understand what's happening. I'm not literally seeing a "big picture". We make this mistake reading the Word all the "time" :) "Before the ages began" . Again, this denotes "time" before time. Remember, "time" is a prerequisite for its own existence and this is a perfect example. You can't have a "before" the ages unless there is "time" before the ages. The ages refer to the creation. If I imagine what God was doing right "before" the creation, I've already put God on a metaphorical time-line. In order for the verse to mean what you say it means, it would have to read something like, "outside of the ages" but not "before". Before denotes time before the "time" referenced. Days and nights are simply the sun and moon as cosmic clocks. There were 3 days before God created the sun. Therefore the sun and moon rising and setting no more prove time was created than a clock itself. When God made the sun stop in Joshua's day, He didn't stop time.....just the sun!
Anthropomorphism seems to simply change the Bible into partly fictional. If we assign human emotions like regret, grief, repent, sorrow, etc., to God that He does NOT actually have, then we are lying or saying fictional things that are not true. That is why anthropomorphism is a tool used in fictional stories, mainly in which animals are used to play humanistic roles. If the Bible is factual, no such style of storytelling should be used.
@@51elephantchang Does "literally" always mean literally? "I literally died" - did the person literally die if he is alive to say that? Gay has two meanings - homosexuality and happy. Is that mental gymnastics? How about sick? "You're so sick, bro." That either means someone is ill or is, for lack of a better term, cool. Is that mental gymnastics? You're saying that repent can't mean two things and count it as mental gymnastics when it is explained to mean two things.
@@51elephantchang Well, context. Context reveals meaning. How would you know what someone meant by literally? Well, is he literally dead? How would you know what someone meant by sick? Is the person sick? You'd know this by the context of the situation. Furthermore, there is a hermeneutical principle that says we need to interpret the vague verses in light of the clear verses. Since the Bible is clear, God is omniscient, then we must interpret verses that say "God regretted making man" in light of the very well-established fact in the Bible that He is omniscient.
This is just more evidence Mike, does not believe the scripture. Mike believes Mike's opinion. The clear reading of the text, shows God is open in his knowledge, he does change his mind. The verse you use to say he does not change his mind, can also show his moral attributes do not change. You should try reading that verse in the Septuigent for better clarity.
I don't understand how an all knowing God can ever have regret or repent or sorrow. There is no context to explain that in my mind. Either God can repent or he can't, both things can't be true. How can God repent or change his mind when He already knows he's going to repent or change his mind? Wouldn't that mean that he is not actually repenting or changing his mind? 'If this happens, then I'll do that'...'If that happens, then I'll do this.' Those are not thoughts of an all knowing being. God already knows what you are going to do and not going to do so why is He saying 'if this, then that'? Also, Moses did talk God down of the calamity or 'evil' (KJV) He would have done, according to the words in the Bible in Exodus. It happened in an instant and was only based on the conversation with Moses in which he tells God reasons why God should 'repent' (KJV) or change His mind. We have to make assumptions that are not in the word in order to come to any other conclusion. The human verses divine distinction does not really fully explain any of the above.
A father had sons and daughters. The father had been around for a long time, full of wisdom, knowledge, and experience. His children slowly turned away, eventually rejecting the father all together. The father says "Ill cut them off ! Its horrible what I have done" afterwards he realizes that is not his nature and his love for them can not be quenched He loves his children and would do anything for them but he can not accept their rejection. So in his grief, as much as it pains him, he hopes that in his love his children will accept a relationship with him once again.

Knee jerk reaction is a strawman. Nobody claims that God repents in such a way.

@@nikao7751keep up, man. In your OP you claimed that people say God changes His mind in a "knee-jerk" reactionary way. That's strawmanning the position, because people who argue that *God changing His mind is a fact of the text* would never characterize it in that way. I don't think you have a demon, and I don't think you're crazy in the legal sense that you're a danger to yourself or others. But your beliefs are sort of nuts, and I think you might do well to listen to others, before presuming to know everything, particularly the sins of others.

God changing His mind is really not about changing His mind it’s about allowing the people mentioned in scripture to participate by having a discussion with them, this is why God created humans so that He could have a relationship with us.
Yes, it's difficult to reconcile the plain teachings of Scripture with manmade doctrine such as immutability.
Pastor Josh just got done with a sermon on this very subject. Gods nature never changes but the Bible clearly shows God having an ability to change His mind depending on our prayers and actions.
God doesn’t need to to repent. God is Love. He is the Creator. Everything he creates is perfect at the start, satin ruins it for God. PRAISE God.
But God replied, "And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell their right hand from their left--and also many animals?""
Interesting Jesus brought this up in His rebuke of Israelite's.

Chuck Butler you reminded me of a scripture.
“For we know in part and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.”
I Corinthians 13:9-10 NKJV
Also regarding knowledge and teachers, another scripture comes to mind.
And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.”
Matthew 23:8-12 NKJV
So yeah, no man shall be looked on as a teacher but rather a brother (or sister) who is also trying to find their way. This is how we can grow together in our faith of Christ.

demi- dogg God answers prayers in the Bible, what are you stating?
That's like saying "Oh, only a few people have gone to outer space, that means it doesn't exist."
3. Love how you call me incredibly arrogant for trying to speak for God when you yourself said He doesn't answer prayers anymore by saying "Maybe he used to, then." Let me quote you a verse about prayer.
1John 5:14-15
"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him."
Huh.
An excellent job covering a controversial topic! Mike you explained this perfectly, and God in Christ was glorified!😁❤🙏
I’ve wondered about this for years... so glad to hear this topic!
The time you took to explain and walk through those passages really helped to clarify in ways that I could not
Great topic. Thank you, Mike.
This topic was very hard for me to understand but thanks to Jesus for using you brother to explain it so well.
GREAT! Thanks!! I've always wondered about the Bible's contradictions, and your explanation is really good. Love your humour! Bless you!
I felt like he had to mental gymnastics himself through all the passages. Good on him for having enough humility to change his views since this sermon.
Can you point me to where he expresses that he changed his views on this sermon?
Thank you for being thorough.. it really tied things together and made sense of those moments God chose to use to teach us of His character.

@@grimreaper843 I read the Bible..Jesus tells us "Do not go out or follow them ". Read Luke 17: 20-37.
Another great topic. Thank you for addressing it.
It’s sad that people are afraid to just say the truth. There is no point to write passages like this if they don’t mean what they say. Open/theism is true.
So helpful Mike, thankful for you!
Thank you for posting this today mike!
You persuaded me with that sad look when I told you it wouldn’t be up till later in the week. Haha
Mike doesn't know what it means, so he can't explain it
GOD IS IMMUTABLE, never Changing the same yesterday, today and forevermore.
What is the Hebrew word in the tanakh for God Repented
Yeah! Praise the Lord 🙏❤️ for this message.
In explaining Exodus 32:14, John Gill wrote:
“Not that any of God’s thoughts or the determinations of his mind are alterable; for the thoughts of his heart are to all generations [Psalm 33:11]; but he changes the outward dispensations of his providence, or his methods of acting with men . . . and this being similar to what they do when they repent of anything, who alter their course, hence repentance is ascribed to God, though, properly speaking, it does not belong to him.”
I admit I still use "Dude" daily. lol

Great word, pastor!
God bless.
Your absolutely right I'm tryna shape my mindset to that everyday, but also hope for good things 😏

Ok I'm getting rlly confused of relenting and repenting. Wdym from 14:00-17:20 could u explain this
To relent, meant to back off. To repent, means you’re sorry for what you do.
Me too brother that's why I came here and found this, because it troubled me

Thank you. Glory to God.
There are no coincidences.
I feel like it really says a lot that God grieves so much over sin that the best language to describe this grief is “repent” It really goes to show just how bad sin is.
Can you help answer this:
If God knew/planned for the sinfulness and salvation of man through Jesus, why is he deserving of worship/praise for "fixing his mess" or saving his people?
When we change, and do .. he (changes, and.. ) does 🙂🙏

Very insightful. A difficult topic handled very well.

Awesome message. Question ❓ Can our sin take us to a point of no return such as what took place with Pharaoh and King Saul?
It's like how God asked Adam if he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. God already knew. I believe these types of passages in scripture was worded so for our benefit. 😊
It seems to me that God asked Adam so that Adam would have to decide if he would be honest. The same as when you ask your child if they did something, that you know they did, you are looking for them to be honest with you
Good explanation Bruce.
Grace yes God already knew the answer, but not only did he want Adam to be honest but also to acknowledge and admit that he had wronged

Great argument for free will
Great video, Mike!
Peter reaffirms this in 2 Peter 3:8, "But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day."
2 Timothy 1:9 acknowledges that God is before time ever was. "...who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,"
Furthermore, days and nights are time references in Genesis 1.
We make this mistake reading the Word all the "time" :)
"Before the ages began" .

@@solideogloria3602 Just suppose that is what I meant..how can you or Mike be so sure your interpretation is correct?
Great topic!
True. Open Theism explains it all, though.
