I feel you're underestimating how hardy these capes can be. Even if the growth is completely dead the plants roots refuse to die and in my experience decide to make several more small plants in response.
I potted my sundew in perlight peat and carnivorous potting mix mild grew ate the moss that was near the top and sudenly had my sundew growing strong after 1 year i have little baby saplings starting up already
That hanging drosera is stunning 😍I have a very small pot of drosera adelae that has made babies like crazy, but I think they're crowding each other out, limiting their size. After watching this video I feel less scared to separate and repot them. Thanks!
I bought one of these from one of the major UK supermarkets (It will remain nameless) last week. This particular supermarket has been doing carnivorous plants for the first time that I know of. The Drosera that they had is on it's last legs and they had reduced it in price. I will see how I get on.
I once forgot to check my filter and I ended up watering my Drosera capensis with higher and higher concentrations of TDS. I almost lost my whole tray. So I did a flushing with each pot with distilled water. Now, they’re coming back like seedlings!! Almost lost them all! :)
I really want to get some carnivorous plants, the one you have with the pink flowers in the middle looks really nice. Do any others get flowers? Also I like the vlog chore type videos as well as the others, I think it’s nice to have a good mix of content 👍
I think you're referring to the Pinguiculas. Many carnivorous plants have unusual flowers on them. All Drosera (sundews) flower. Venus Fly Traps flower as do Sarracenia. My favourite flowers are on Heliamphoras - although I've never actually got around to growing one yet.
At least I've got some other pots as insurance - and they're self-seeding around the place too. I've never tried utricularia as yet. I want to try heliamphora first - whenever I get around to it!
Just watching this again because 2 weeks ago I bought a plant clump that has 2 plants from a grower. I’ve let it be to acclimate. Geez those roots are long, will go look for a tall pot. Found this very helpful…but being me I would’ve tried to save anything with green on it! Thanks 🪴😊

Hi, Ahoj I'm new to helping carnivorous plants. 1.) Is sundew from a filter jug healthy? Can anyone confirm this? 2) I was told that boiled and then cooled water is good for sundews.? Can anyone confirm this? 3) I would like to, I thought. catching rainwater. ? Can anyone confirm this? 4) I would like to, I thought. catching water from snow? Can anyone confirm this? sorry if my english is not good 🙁
Welcome! To answer your questions: 1. Rain water or distilled water is better 2. See the first answer 3. See the first answer. 4. That would work - but make sure to warm it to over 15°C first. Good luck!
sorry but i dont know your name pal - a smashing video on sundews, thankyou. They seem to be pretty hardy (mine grow in Scotland - even further north than you sound to be?) Take care friend, and i hope your plants survive.
Thanks Bernard. They bounced back fortunately. I've several self-seeded Drosera capensis too so I think I'll be OK for stock (providing I don't let them dry out again!🤣)
My first sundew, a capensis was attacked by aphids, wasn't even that many, maybe thrips as well. It's on life support and it's not looking good, so I am anxious to put them outside.
It's going to be a big difference when I start to try to grow these The reason I say that is because most of my plants are also from the cape region in Africa but I have plants from Namaqualand mostly succulents and cacti. I have this Elephant bush that is absolutely beautiful. I was thinking of trying to grow some napenthes pitcher plants, But I'm not sure!🤔
@@Grow_Up_Man55 that's another thing I was wondering because my plants don't need too much humidity. I do mimic the morning dew though because I'm sure that's how it is in Africa!
Yeah they're very robust little things - and they were crowded in that pot anyway. You should get some seeds - they're much better to look at in real life than on video!
Haha! I’m sure you’ll love them. Here’s a whole new genera to collect! I’ve just sent for some Colocasia bulbs after seeing them on UA-cam. God only knows where I’m going to put them when they grow. I believe they grow huge!! 🤔🤷♂️😂
@@Grow_Up_Man55 I tried to grow Alocasia last year outdoors but not a great result. They did survive but didn't flourish so we're transferred to the compost bin!
Apparently Colocasia need 21 degrees at least so maybe similar for Alocasia? The corms were under a tenner each so worth a go I guess. I really love one called Colocasia Pharoah’s Mask but they’re at least £120!

I also have to mention the 3 flower stalks that grew in this winter-spring
G;ad to hear they're doing well for you Jazz!

Thanks! Yeah they're a lot tougher than they look. Good luck with the repot.😁

It's surprising how if you leave them long enough - they make a full recovery. Especially Drosera capensis. good luck!

You can do it! 🤣 Remember to sit the pot in rain water when you're done. Although I could be teaching granny to suck eggs! (An old English saying...)

what are those hard plastic tray called?
The ones I get from Amazon are called gravel or seed trays.

His moniker is Geoff ! 🌿

Spray it soft soap solution - that should sort the aphids out. They like a sunny spot though which will definitely help.
@@Grow_Up_Man55 thank u for the tips 😊
You definitely didn’t need to reply it, it would bounce back fine in its old pot :)
But great repot! It will be crazy vigorous now
Yeah it did! 😀

I think they’ll fit in just fine providing you don’t have your humidity below 35% for any considerable length of time.

@@Joey-vw1id It's only extremely low humidity that would cause issues.
I would think it'll be fine! It's surprising how often a repot can revive an ailing plant. I might get one to deal with fungus gnats! 🤣

That's one on order. The power of etsy! Sent for plant. Couldn't be bothered with the faff of stratifying seeds and I need one now for the gnats!

They should recover Geoff, they are pretty tough. Give them a lot of time.
After this video I actually repotted them again - this time giving them their own pot each! Looking forward to bigger plants...🤞
A squirrel ate mine last year..I got new ones
The little bu****s! They cause havoc in my garden too - digging up every single pot I own.😫

Fortunately I took some insurance last year and planted a few in another pot!
"I forgot to water them"

No maybe about it… 🤣
