- 🔴🎸 Pink Floyd | Shine On You Crazy Diamond | Remake | How To | Cover Tracks #guitarist
🔴🎸Updated | August 2023 | New Info...
🎸 I do a solo Pink Floyd tribute show called One Floyd, and a few years back I remade a stack of Pink Floyd tracks, this was one of them. This is all my own work, form the complete tempo mapping, mixing, recording and production. This track was recorded way back in 2013.
🎸The whole project took about 2months in full to complete. I went with very dry drums back then, but made sure I got Ian Thompson in for some real sax, one of the best sax players around guys!
🎸All the guitar tones, Amplitube 3, my favourite guitar plugin, and I still use it to this day. However as of July 2022, I switched over to Fractal AxeFx FM3 and never looked back. I still use my JMP-1's live solo shows, and AT3 + 5 in the studio where possible, but the Fractal gear is just so good.
🎸DAW|Other Tone VST Info: I used Cubase 7.5, Specatrasonics Omnisphere, BFD2/3, and a stack of other VST plugins, as well as Amplitube 3 which I highlight on the guitar parts to show how I got the tone..

Хороший интересный проект
Wow I'm thrilling! This is GREAT! This so Pink Floyd! ^_^
Absolutely astounding!!!
This is soooo good! 👍
This is absolutely wonderful. An amazing tribute to the Floyd boys. I am so jealous of musical people. If I could go back in time, I would beg my parents to let me take piano and guitar lessons. Over the years I've had all sorts of amazing software at my disposal, like Reason, CuBase and pretty much every other quality software package. They are useless to me because I have no musical abilities whatsoever. It's such a shame. Listening to music has been such an integral part of my life. It would be so thrilling if I could ever create an enjoyable piece of music that moved someone. I will be watching your work with great interest. You are very talented and you have great taste in music! Shine on...
Great project! I did a similar one too. Was wondering if you'd have the Amplitube 4 preset for Time.
Now i'm feeling so tiny and small ,thought i was a bit musician ,but when i hear this !!! wooooow
TIMBRAGEM IDÊNTICA ... MUITO BOM ...
Simplemente bello.
Todo es impresionante, un gran trabajo.
Just wow! Knocked it out of the park!

Bravissimo!!
Wow, this stuff is just brill!!! Sounds like the real deal, kudos to you SIR! Subscribed after 3 seconds, cheers!
Awesome \m/
Great remake! I love Pink Floyd and I'm usually a bit suspicious, but I must say with a hand at my heart - AWESOME; YOU ROCK! If you were ever to make a show in Germany (say Munich :P ) I will definitely be there!
+Nikola Gushterov - I'd love to bring the show over to Europe www.onefloyd.com
I'm also from Munich haha.So if you bring the show over here I'll be there. Pink Floyd was like the first Rock Band I ever heard. They inspired me to pick up the Drums and also learn guitar a bit so i've got quite a close connection to them. Really coming from the bottom of my heart this was a beautiful performance keep rocking and stay awesome !
epic chris de burgh sounding vocals
Nice work Steve
Phenomenal ! Could you go into detail how you managed to get the guitar tone and that vocals , tremendous !
Hi G X H,
all the guitars were recorded using Amplitube 3, ( i now use AT4 as well as 3) , vocals were group bussed to single compressor, bone dry, and little EQing.
I spent ages trying to get as near as I could a Gilmour style tone, I found the Hi-Watt amp, and 4x12 with a U-87 and another condenser did the trick, then I added in the Phase 9 pedal, and MXR Dynacomp compressor pedal. This is how I do it live too, I use a '73 reissue phase 90, and MXR Dynacomp. I keep things really simple, studio - Amplitube, live - JMP-1 valve preamps direct to PA. Hope that helps, I saw you asked me where you could grab a copy of the track, it is on my One Floyd website page - www.steveforward.com/onefloyd/merchandise.html
Best of luck
Great simple feel on this cover. You fucking nailed it mate!
Top notch! Thank you! \m/
Cheers Mike!
very nice (Y)
never underestimate the power of Amplitube 3/4. It is simply the most underrated plugin ever. The only device I have found which is tonally better, is a Kemper. Amplitube IS that good!
Ha fair play man.that was pretty cool.id say a fair bit of work went in to that.
You did a really great job! I would absolutely love the cubase file of this. Could you please dropbox it to me? Much appreciated!!
Great Job . Steve !
Magnifique!
Well done man great job did you play the lead guitar lines yourself?
Thanks so much. Yes everything was done by me in Cubase. Really appreciate the kind words thanks so much!
That was freakin' amazing! You did the best band ever (IMHO) justice. Also, who are the douche nozzles that gave this a thumbs down?
I would like to add, that the saxophone was recorded by me also, and is played expertly by one of the top sax players in the UK today. I was very lucky to have Ian Thompson (The Foundations, ABC... ) agree to come and play on this track. So I'd like to give him a plug... www.solidsax.co.uk - In my opinion, Ian is the top sax guy, and he was ultra professional on the day. If there is ever a secret to creating a great track, then its down to people like him.. thank you Ian!
Really sounds like Gilmour's guitar! :D that's not easy, but possible!
Can i ask you what are the pugins you used?, I spend many time trying to get this tone, but it's impossible for me :c
Great work!!
+Gabriel Gomez thank you very much for your kind words.. I used BFD2, for the drums, and 4front bass module for the bass (freeware plugin) with Amplitube 3 on the midi bass and guitars. and Ozone 4 with minimal compresssion ( -1 or 2dB at best ) Omnisphere and Halion One's strings and synths all come from Cubase too. hope that helps, if you study the video I go over the Amplitube 3 patches.
+Steve Forward I can see that it's a huge mix of plugins to get that realistic and similar sound, I really like it.
About the guitar plugins, I imagine a little fuzz face (or something like that), delays and reverbs, maybe an echo, but I really like how the guitar sounds at 2:19, as if the tone knob was in 0, how yo do it?
Again, really, really nice work!
+Gabriel Gomez if you look at the video on the guitar solo at the start I bring up one single instance of Amplitube 3 with the HiWatt amp head, an mxr phase 9, mxr comp, and a stack of reverb and delay... The rest is my strat on the neck pickup and trying loads of picking combinations to get the warm woody tone.. There is no hidden plugins other than using one AT3 plugin... Amplitube 3/4 is so very underrated and is one of the best plugins around.. You have to work to get the sounds but they are there, but be honest and take it for what it is, it's a software plugin and nothing will beat the real thing, but it's very very close ;) thanks!
check out my original album out now - Time Traveller
If you love instrumental rock guitar in the style of Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck, Steve Vai, then my latest guitar album is worth checking out..

Anyone wishing to review the album, please PM me with your details. Thanks!
Excellent! Which amp would you consider beside HiAmp, if you were to choose from those available in the free or Metal version of Amplitube4?
Hi Brin, The Hendrix Gold Plexi would be a suitable alternative, make sure you use plenty of reverb, and the U87 mics on the cabs. Thanks!
Amazing work Steve! Can you share the Amplitube Preset?
Of course, drop me an email address, and I'll send you the .atp files I created for this project.
It's mostly the Amplitube HiWatt model, the Phase 9 pedal, MXR Dynacomp and tons of delays and reverbs. Speaker cabs are IRs or AT3/AT4's own ones Notable the Metal T2 cab.
Thanks again!
Hello, what patches of the omnisphere are you using!!! The track is emulated perfectly. What a sound!!!
Hi There, many thanks for your kind comments. I am using Omnisphere's Strings Ambient as well as a freeware plugin called Crazy Diamonds. I put them both through the same stereo group buss and used careful EQ and some reverb to create a Floyd type synth sound. Nothing beats the real recording, but I do a lot of backing tracks for companies and clients worldwide and get a lot of enjoyment from emulating and re-creating tracks. Sometimes, the simplest way is often the quickest and ultimately best. All of my plugins are either free, or easily available. I just spend a great deal of time tempo mapping (VERY important) and trying to really really listen to what is needed. I am still learning and continue to learn as a backing track writer and producer. Thanks again and best wishes!
By the way, the omnisphere A track is also the same patch of strings? Thanks
You nailed it! Is there any way you could share the presets for the tones you used here?
Sure thing. Amplitube is the best guitar plugin. you can keep your kempers and axe fx, I've used them all, AC/DC used Amplitube on their Black Ice album, as does Satriani nowadays.. I've been an IK user of Amplitube 3 and 4 since 2008! I'll never change.
PM me your email, and I'll send on screen shots and the patches. I have a .zip file I've made of dozens of artist sounds, so I'll send that. be cool!
@@steveforwarduk may i have it too ? ? plzz send me your Gilmour sounds presets .
Amirgr20@gmail.com
done!
Awesome! Add vids of you playing/singing, it'll be cool and more engaging for people who are afraid of DAWs!
head on over to my One Floyd UA-cam channel michaos1, there is a live video of me playing this from one of my One Floyd solo shows.. Thanks again! www.onefloyd.com
What was your process for tempo mapping? Were you listening to the original while you mapped everything?
hi chippchipp1 if you look closely, the original track is right at the top. I always tempo map from the original when making up tracks, to get the same feel. thanks again!
put reverb on Drum Kit BFD... perfect!
Mindblowing stuff, Steve! Tried emulating your Amplitube settings but am not getting that tone. What guitar and pickups are you using? Maybe I am missing something somewhere in the chain? Good work! /Kris
Hi everyone,
I took AGES to get this tone, but, I will go on record and say that Amplitube 3 and 4 ( I still use 3 more ) is hands down the best plugin for studio work.
I used my clapton strat, but didnt use any mid-boost, or tbx.
Pay careful attention to where you pick, use the bridge pickup, but pick near the neck, like Hank Marvin does.
what have you used for the drums?
Hi MrDoubleAgent,
I used BFD2.
Excellent work, but are you selling the music or the DAW file?
Hi Pedro, All of my backing tracks are available for purchase. PM me and let's see what stems you need.
What was the process of mapping the tempo , did you use a plugin to analyze the original ? Excellent remake btw
Hi Dub S, I always manually tempo map the track I am working on. This way it allows me to focus on each part, and use the arranger and marker tracks to map out the song. rebuilding any parts I neeed in MIDI or Audio is much easier then, as I can just keep each part on a loop until it's matched. I spent a long time on each section making sure it's as good as I can get it. I am always learning, and it's a constant revision process. Thanks for your question!
Bro I absolutely love this, can you send it to me ??
agus.giallo87@gmail.com
THIS IS GODLIKE ! WHAT VSTIS USED FOR SYNTHS !?!
Hey Alexander!
I used Cubase Backing Section Strings from Halion, Omnisphere's Pwr EQ Strings and Ambient Strings, and an old free VST plugin called Crazy Diamonds.
But it was mostly Omnisphere.
Wow this is amazing! i have a question. Did you use a real guitar or a virtual guitar?
Hi There, Real Guitar was Used, MIDI Drums, and Synths from Omnisphere and Superwave. Some custom patches for Omnisphere. All guitar tones created in Amplitube 3, which I still use to this day. Brilliant piece of kit.
lovely preset on intro!! is that Omnisphere?? can you send me that? :D I'll appreciate so much!!.. thanks and very good work on this one!
think it's the stock Omnisphere Ambient strings, no special presets, but I've blended them with the stock Cubase strings, "Backing Section". The stock Cubase plugs are super underrated, as is my absolute favourite piece of software, Amplitube... of which, despite owning and using Amplitube 4, I still use the older version 3. Cheers
Steve Forward thank you very much! Cheers mate 🍻
Steve, fantastic work my friend!! I recently remade Learning To Fly using FL Studio. Give it a listen! We are on the same page brother 😎
Your playing a guitar into that beat right?
Dude.
Doing this is how I learn to use FL XD
Hi Steve, can you share with me the FL file?
you did it?
Hi Juan, I don't use FL, I use Cubase. Sorry.
I really don't like the drums…
The guitar is good, but the Gilmour feeling is inimitable…
Eh, I don't say that it is bad… it is very very good!!!
Thumb up!!
Are you really use amplitube to get the guitar tone?
+Artur Gonçalves - yes I used Amplitube 3 on all the guitar tones.
Any chance you could give us the details to get that tone?
Edit: Nvmd I just needed to scroll down. Great job!
Hi Victor, I keep meaning to do a talk through of this and countless other backing tracks that I write. I wish there was some secret setting or patch, you are welcome to the Amplitube 3 patches. I am always busy creating custom backing tracks for clients that I have little time to do tuition videos that is my problem.
I used my beloved Fender Clapton Strat and 9-46 Ernie Ball Hybrids, and nothing else but my Steinberg UR824 and Cubase with Amplitube 3 - my absolute favourite guitar plugin. I spent ages getting the right playing pick style and tone before adding in the DynaComp compressor, HiWatt amp/cab and Phase 90 effects, as well as stacks of reverb post in Amplitube 3.
Many thanks again, and have a great day!
dont forget as a team backingtracks.biz is unbeatable at re-creating those hard to find backing tracks.. we are all gigging backing track solo artists in our own rights, and got fed up of inferior backing tracks, lame drum machine sounds, and over compressed and squashed lifeless sounding backing tracks, that simply sound poor when played live..
so we spent years honing our skills to make our own.
we don't advertise thousands of "karaoke" backing tracks all over the internet.. we produce the tracks we want to... and we spent a great deal of time getting things right. we are not a 9-5 company. we work constantly!
all our tracks are tempo mapped and musically accurate so when you A/B against the real thing there is little to no difference.
Our prices are not cheap, but we believe the quality as shown here speaks for itself. Having produced tracks for well over 5 years now, if you need a backing track, all you need to remember is www.backingtracks.biz -
Thanks!
Steve Forward this particular track is not listed on the website.
This is Really good, but there's only one problem. the drums and the synths are too quiet and the vocals are kind of weak. Excellent guitar work though.
