One of the first rock songs in history to incorporate and feature strings in the arrangement. As with so many great moments in rock music, that ending section was unplanned; originally they were going to fade out the track, but when Janet Vogel thought the tape was over, she adlibbed the ending that ended up on the final single. The final climax of the song with Janet Vogal soaring into the HIGH C NOTE is amazing in and of itself.

I first heard this song from the movie American Graffiti in 1973 when my aunt took me to see the first showing of the movie. I laughed at the thin belts and style back then, but they got it right. My girlfriend Philicia and I danced to this song countless times, we were in love in 1986. I have not met anyone disliking this music in person.

This song came out in 1959 with Jimmy Beaumont (lead), Janet Vogel (soprano), Wally Lester (tenor), Jackie Taylor (bass voice, guitarist), Joe Verscharen (baritone). I have stopped what I was doing to listen to this for almost as long. Consider Pennies From Heaven and Close Your Eyes for more sweet sounds. Thanks Harri!

Any song the Skyliners recorded is amazing, but this one is special, my girlfriend informed me she was pregnant with our daughter Katelyn, we danced to this song countless times, even with the kids laughing and making fun, but they too grew to Love this song in their own right. I am sure the band was loving it as they danced up and down the scale with their instruments! I think this was one of the first to include a string section in the arrangement of the song. Buck Ram, their manager and Jimmy Beaumont Lead vocal co-wrote the song.

This song is an absolute legend and happens to be my favorite song of the 50s. So I'm so glad that you discovered it. It's almost unbelievable that they were all only just teens when they recorded this. But then again, I suppose that the greatest vocals ever recorded really did come from teens. Just check out Brenda Lee from the early 60's or LeAnn Rimes from the 90s for assurance.
Also, if you truly adore this song from The Skyliners, then please also be sure to check out Since I Don't Have You by Lenny Welch which has a very similar vibe.

All classics: This transcendent doo-wop-style pop song is from 1958. Other songs similar to this hit, tho from the early 1960s, have a 1950s feel & vibe. This song, along w/Rhythm Of The Rain by The Cascades, Dee Clark (Feels Like Raindrops) & Frankie Lymon? All 🔥.

I've always loved this song by the Skyliners. Tim Foust of Home Free has an all doo wop song album and this is one that he sings. He has a video for it. He does quite a lot of justice to the song.

Agree! Tim does an awesome version of this song! And he does it all a cappella.

A great song by a great group. Also listen to THIS I SWEAR, another one of their best songs.

Nature endowed Jimmy with everything needed to produce that beautiful sound. I wonder if Jimmy ever recorded outside the doo-wop genre. Imagine if he lent that voice to some Gershwin or Cole Porter. Cheers

Tom Grant did a pretty good cover of this song in the 1980s - worth a listen .

They have a street named after the lead singer in the park.
