So true, but I didn't like Kim Field's character "Ragine". That character reminded me of those kind of black women who are bourgeois, money hungry, materialistic, and only want men with power and money. I feel like that is an image that we do not need to see when it comes black women on TV. We see those characters way too often on TV and movies, especially on a lot of these reality TV shows that's always portraying sistas in a negative way. Black women are always being judged no matter what they do, especially in the entertainment business. But I did like that show!!!
That show portrayed successful black people dealing with career and personal issues outside most of the negative stereotypes. I hate how Hollywood portrays black people carrying all the exact same negative attitudes and behaviors. "Living Single" gave a diverse set of characters that didn't necessarily fit the stereotypical boxes black people are put into most of the time. This show is definitely missed.
Right. This is why I can't roll with most of our shows. We were/are not all raised and living in the ways that they portray us. We would like it to be shown that we can have Hallmark lives also. The Cosby show, Different World and so forth

They did my dark sister Maxine like that..that is why I hated that show. Sex in the City showed love for all 4 ladies..oops Black folks like eye rolling loud talking stealing Black folks..yeah I said it..
It just wasn't the same without him, as soon as they brought in Mel Jackson. Show was sinking. But I was so glad and happy that he came back to help close the show.
Wadrobe, creativity...yep, everything went downhill. Khadijah's wardrobe became tshirt and jeans or shorts, no days in office at Flavor or hardly any references of work. She was basically just sitting around the house on the couch and snacking majority of the time. Sinclaire and Overton's marriage life was such a snooze. A lot of pride left during that last season. I will say 'Up The Ladder To The Roof' was a highlight episode.
Living single, Martin, A Different World, and New York Undercover was one of the best examples of showing People of Color in successful and Positive role models

I'm a white guy who could never stomach an entire episode of Friends - and could not get enough of Living Single. LS was an incredible show with an amazing cast.
Living Single was more of a show for anybody to watch and enjoy, FRIENDS on the other hand was a world most of us have no idea of so the comedy was mild as were the characters. Growing up in The Bronx, we just laughed when watching Living Single yet the few times we watched Friends, we all were making stereotype jokes at the show. If you can't tell that friends was lame, then you just don't know and congrats on living a good life.

I wish the there was more attention put on those in the black community that achieved success through business, engineering, medicine, etc. I like that this show portrayed professionals. Kyle Barker as a character got me too and through college! Helped me expand my mind from hood boogers and pick my major in finance. Kyle became a director of finance at 30 and so did I. Thanks Kyle and T.C.
This man is iconic. They way he carries himself his poise and caliber. I watch Living Single show religiously. I love the entire cast ❤️ black excellence.
I know a lot of people know... But if you don't look up how they stole (literally) the entire idea for "Friends" from "Living Single".. Its disrespectful smh...
The cast of living single are cowards tho. Latifah and them threw kyle to the wolves instead of confronting Fox as a group to get their demands met. That's how each cast member of Friends got paid $1million or something.
"My Funny Valentine " was the best romantic 3 minutes of television that decade, slightly ahead of the Brian Mcknight proposal on Martin. Straight player stuff.
Kyle Barker, was one of the "BEST" "POSITIVE" "BLACK MALE" "ROLE MODEL" there was!!! To me the show went downhill once Kyle left, that's just my opinion. Still to this day, I watch all of the repeat of Living Single right up to Sinclaire & Overton's wedding that's it until the return of Kyle Barker, for the New Year bash which was the final episode....Love you TC Carson aka Kyle Barker! 😘❤
Yeah, can't lie. I don't really like episodes after Kyle leaves, Regine moves out, and Tripp moves in. I'll still watch them, but the chemistry among characters was off.
@@gapeachnow26, I totally agree! I will have it on, but just for the ratings & the artiste can get the credit and earn that residual check! I have it on & my tv volume is turned all the way down, I'm most likely listening to some music or watching something on youtube or netflix 🤭🤭🤭
TC Carson looks nice with the gray hair. Everybody on that show had a significant role & impact on Living Single. Kyle put dark skinned men with dreads in Corporate America on the map!
Coming from a small southern backwoods town I needed to see a character like Kyle. It exposed me to a different kind of black man that someone like me wouldn’t see on a daily basis. That intelligent black man who still got all the chicks👍🏾.
Exactly. That's why I wanted to live in a major metropolitan area. It's not a shock to hear a Black man speak well or be successful in the right manner
This is why TC took his character so seriously; he knew he was representing a type of person not on tv at the time; an educated, well dressed, well spoken, Non-drg dealer post college grad black man with variety of Black friends
They fired him and cancelled the show cause of how powerful the messaging was to their demographic. Peep how in episodes they would wear hoodies and t’s from HBCU’s. The messages were getting out and they couldn’t handle that.
That logic doesn’t work, because Cosby pumped the HBCU’s big-time by wearing t-shirts and sweatshirts, constantly discussing Hillman, and re-living his college years in athletic contests with old rivals. Let’s not forget that he had two entire episodes about convincing Denise to attend Hillman. He also created a spin-off based on that whole ideology. He also made clear to the networks that there would be no swirling on his shows…until A Different World had the Kim + WM storyline. And that just led to Kim dating Ron.
@@DeCurtaRican Its still holds up. Bill had way more say on the shows he produced. Not every black show had that privileged. Writers and producers made decisions on what a show was about not the actors.
TC Carson! I went on a girls trip a few months ago and got to meet this loving soul! He is such a vibrant and magnetic energy. He’s so respectful and loving. He brought myself and my group of friends rounds of drinks. We spoke with him and thanked him for raising our black society through the screen. He represents black men in a great light. @@CarelesssXeno pretty sure the Sci-fi question was referencing that Chris Judge is probably best known for his time on the Stargate television franchise. Judge's Stargate character had so many Kratos traits it may be what led to his selection as a replacement.

The brotha who is doing the interviewing did a excellent job. This is how it should be, our stars should allowing black journalist to interview them and black journalist need to carry themselves with professionalism just like this brotha who did the interviewing did.
I remember the episode when Kyle's job wanted him to change his hair. I think about what's happening now with jobs and schools telling us how to wear our hair. Crazy
This show was so powerful and monumental for our community. I am glad that the guys refused to play the slap stick idiot role. You have to stand up for what you believe in at all costs. Kyle Barker is one of my favorite tv characters of all time. He was incredibly smooth and poised, articulate and educated. Stylish and talented. This is what we needed to see.
The thing that really made me love Living Single was the fact that I knew people like those characters. Kyle, Regine, Max, Khadijah, Sinclaire, and Overton were real people I could relate to. I could see myself and my cousins and my friends in them. The junk on BET and OWN today, especially that nonsense Tyler Perry produces, insults Black people. The characters don't act like adults, and the plots are just sensationalistic. They bring these ridiculous ideas to trick us into watching because they know what they're putting out is subpar. It's all a gimmick I loved Living Single, New York Undercover, and Girlfriends because I could relate. The same goes for The Cosby Show and A Different World. These were intelligent Black people making moves, and they were conscious.
This comment and responses are all truth. I hardly watch black comedies now. They also look so cheap! I remember my white roommates gathering to watch Friends, and I would have my small tv in my room watching Living Single. I was so sad when it ended. Now recently learning how the cast was treated compared to the Friends cast just annoys me.
I hate sounding like this, but you're giving a lot of black folks in this country too much credit. YOU might have related to them. I and others may have too. But there are lot of folks who didn't. I remember all the comments about The Cosby Show and A Different World being 'bougie' and 'unrealistic'. Tyler Perry does numbers because hate it or love it, there are A LOT OF BLACK PEOPLE in this country that really relate to those shows, simple as we might think they are. There's a great great book called "Disintegration" by journalist Eugene Robinson that talks about how some of the cultural divides we have within the black community came to be. Anyone who sees it, I recommend it as highly as possible.
Preach Dingolay!! You said it perfectly, succintly, and on point. Tyler Perrys stuff is different. It appeals to a different segment of our black demographic. This show reflected a young, black, educated, audience that was striving towards more than what "Madea" brings to the table.

I'm glad he has such positive things to say about his father - black man!
Yesssss
So sad that we have to commend and applaud what should be the norm in every young Black boy's life. Not all Black households lack patriarchs and good Black male leaders.
@@d_roi8689 Right but "we" DON'T celebrate this enough like he does. "Society" is too busy suppressing the black man in general. They want us to believe that this is an outlier... baby daddy drama is the flavor.

@@d_roi8689 That is so true. Actually I had a great dad who set an example for my brother. i also have some great uncles who are the head of their families.

Armon Rakhman exactly
So true
Facts..
That was the problem. Nothing positive can be shown for blk ppl to feel good about
So true, but I didn't like Kim Field's character "Ragine".
This show is definitely missed.
so good that the copycat Friends were even successful. I would definitely watch a show like that today
Right. This is why I can't roll with most of our shows. We were/are not all raised and living in the ways that they portray us. We would like it to be shown that we can have Hallmark lives also. The Cosby show, Different World and so forth
Watching it now i watch it every morning

I'm a white guy who could never stomach an entire episode of Friends - and could not get enough of Living Single. LS was an incredible show with an amazing cast.
Honestly I could never find that show funny to me it was heavily overrated
Friends was horrible and unfunny
Oh please, Friends was in a league of its own. So was Living Single . There's no need to bash one , to big up the other one.

They fired him and cancelled the show cause of how powerful the messaging was to their demographic. Peep how in episodes they would wear hoodies and t’s from HBCU’s. The messages were getting out and they couldn’t handle that.
Absolutely! I agree with you 💯 percent.
Bill Cosby started that shit
That logic doesn’t work, because Cosby pumped the HBCU’s big-time by wearing t-shirts and sweatshirts, constantly discussing Hillman, and re-living his college years in athletic contests with old rivals. Let’s not forget that he had two entire episodes about convincing Denise to attend Hillman.
He also created a spin-off based on that whole ideology.
He also made clear to the networks that there would be no swirling on his shows…until A Different World had the Kim + WM storyline.
And that just led to Kim dating Ron.

That’s very true. Even Martin and Fresh Prince brought some real black social things on their platforms even though they were comedy based shows.
This comment and responses are all truth. I hardly watch black comedies now. They also look so cheap!
