To say I am intrigued would be an understatment. As a player of Civ and Humankind, it will be interesting to see what this game does differently. Wishing you folks all the best.
I'm particularly excited about players taking their turn simultaneously, and the "living world" seems like it could have some real potential. The tiles not being your basic hexagon shape is pretty interesting and could lead to some cool looking cities if the procedural generation is done right. I'm pretty excited!
@@beowulfansgarX don't be ridiculous. It doesn't matter what your feelings on Civ are, Civ is a giant in the 4x field; it is the Google of historical 4x games. People like you tried to do the same thing with Humankind and then you ended up disappointed because it's not the "civkiller" you purported it to be. At the end of the day the historical 4x genre was big enough for Humankind and Civ and the same will go for ARA. As a Civ player I look forward to playing ARA. I don't see it as a competition, it's just an opportunity to see a different interpretation of historical strategy.
It looks good, but I don’t know about the crafting mechanic. I believe most Civilization/Strategy players will probably not like that mechanic. It just seems like an added/extra mechanic that is un-needed/wanted in order to add more play time. I can see it being hated in multiplayer games because it will add way more time to each players turn dragging out games that shouldn’t be dragged.
Dont think you have to worry about that. Seems like they are creating a rlly good game and the crafting sounds cool and different from the normal civ formula.
I like it in concept, the idea of production chains is rather important to history. Produce X here to ship to over there to produce Y etc etc. I don't want too much logistics, but i do want to see what can be done here. If nothing else I'd be very interested to see if you can have a city based around harvesting resources and another about production instead of harvesting being production in and of itself.
My suggestion to you is to take ARA on its own terms and forget about Civ. Too many people, with an axe to grind for Firaxis, hyped up Humankind as a "civkiller" and competition but in the end it shared more in common with Civ than it had apart. Having played the technical alpha I can tell you, without going into much detail, that this is civ-like qualities but it plays also very different. If you're going to look for a civ replacement you may find yourself very disappointed. Do yourself a favor and avoid that trap.
@@CausticSpace Might be a little bit of column A and column B. It definitely feels like they're trying to marry the granular systems of PDX games with the 4X genre.
This game must live to expectation or else, its no other way around. Its not like Amplitude withe their Humandkind situation that still have Endless for coping after the fall.
The game physically looks good but I worry because how good it looks will limit map size. I've always liked playing huge earth maps and this would be the dream based how it looks however I doubt because the graphic demands it will allow large maps
I don't think it's an acronym, in fact I don't think they've ever stated exactly what ARA is. Though there is a Mesopotamian/Sumerian goddess by the name of Ara, and there's a constellation in Greek mythology said to be the altar where the gods came together to plot against the Titans, Sumeria is one of the birthplaces of civilization, and the altar could be emblematic of the game's focus on diplomacy. Maybe the answer is a little of both 😉 If you find out though, let us know!
Civ VI was the end for me. I've been playing Civ games since the first one released. It peaked at III, slid down a bit on IV... then nose-dived on V. I suspect V took much the same path as modern music; dumbed-down and all flash- fine for quick distraction but no lasting substance. Ara seems out to make real music again. Here's to hoping. :-)
I'm not sure which kind of music you're listening to, but you couldn't be more wrong. There are all kinds of great contemporary bands out there. If you're talking about pop, it's just what it does and it isn't meant to be listened to seriously.
Yes i totally agree to you , except the peak i think it was CIV4: Beyond the sword. Civ5 dumbed down so awful , it was depressing to play. Civ6 i droped in like 20 minutes of playing. So we are still waiting for a sequel to CIV4
Love seeing PC exclusives on my Xbox showcase. Game looks awesome but Jesus Christ it’s 2023, CK3 is on console, let’s make it a console/PC game at launch if you’re going to showcase on a console showcase. I know it says developer showcase but it’s for Xbox owners not PC players.
@@liamflan9553 and it’ll crash late game every 15 mins, no mods because those will cause it to crash, cheaters are rampant in multiplayer on PC. Yes, the removal of the grid is probably what has me the most excited :D Looks like a buy this one...
@@torbjrnvrebekk3178doesnt civ 6 have simultaneous turns or is it still turned based?
This needs to be on the Xbox. We have Humankind (finally!). Now we need this to come to it.
it will, just like humankind just goes to pc first
this will do until Civ 7
Not civ at all doing 2 completely different things
How so? Besides crafting this really seems like they made their own Civ 6. @@ojerico6097

@@therexbellatorperfect response. My thoughts exactly.
Was really hoping for an earlier release than the fall, been following this since the teaser came out and love the civ games

seems like they're merging bits from Civ and Anno for the crafting system

I'm excited for this. Will 100% buy
Really like the craft system. Hope for huge maps and dozens of leaders on the same map.
Civilization + AoE = Ara?
@@somerandomchannel382 Doesn't civ already cover AoE?
So cool! Looking forward to play it!
Nothing about diplomacy? For me that makes or breaks strategy games. Hoping for more details.
This needs a Multiplayer and a Team vs Team mode so the lads can play together against AI or against each other.
Excited to try this!!

if this works well , i hope they make a fantasy style with the same graphics/mechanics
I hope to play this on console
will this run on steam deck? thanks
Colour me interested. And I always luv me some mechs in Civlike games :3

The living world is exciting tbh. As much as I love civ, I’ve always found it annoying that the cities don’t really reflect actual cities visually.
I just hope this come to console , I am bored of Civ6 (1000+ hours) and I don't have a PC
It might launch later on Xbox. Xbox usually does that with their strategy games.
I'm ready for Ara. Civ 6 I still play, hope Ara has humor to be found as well. Cougars harassing boys as they work? Has potential
2:04 I gotta admit I thought Dorian_Newcomb was A.I Avatar in this trailer.
I had the same thought. I don't ever want to see him and his hair ever again if I'm going to give this game a try.
Is it turn based ?
