About the boundary and seated vs standing position. Then select seated play while standing and in SteamVR you can latyer click "re-center" button in VR menu (do it in your central spot where you want to play at the moment). This is VR without limits and no box is painted. But, this approach needs attention and a carpet under your feet, so you know where you are, not to hit anything in the room. The size of carpet should refelect how much space you have, so your hands would not hit anything outside the carpet.

Fantastic video, very helpful! I pre-ordered my unit in July, hopefully it will arrive here in Norway before Christmas. p.s. Could I also ask you to make an optimization video for the Nvidia (Control Panel) settings to get the absolute best visuals to performance ratio? I find that many people might benefit from that!
Thanks and glad you liked the video. I love Norway, I'm hoping to get there next summer. Regarding my Nvidia settings, I just leave them default to be honest. So it would probably be a very short video 😅
@@VRFlightSimGuy It is quite the beautiful country! Hopefully MSFS2020 comes out with a Norway update some time in the future to adress some nature bugs. Looking forward to using the G2 while flying the fjords of Norway! Aha, if you haven’t tweaked much I’m guessing it is set to prefer quality over performance?
@@VRFlightSimGuy I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time here! If you want some travel tips, then Lofoten, Geirangerfjord and Røros would be my go to recommendations. If you could do a guide to getting the G2 and controllers set up in xplane it would be great! I had a samsung odyssey and couldn't do it, so I sold it...
regarding the steamvr setting 'render resolution - resolution per eye setting' i read in a technical article that you're not really setting the resolution there for you're headset (like a monitor), but that it has more to do with the resolution steamVR processes it before it warps and twists the image before rendering it suitable for vr... which is why the steamvr never shows you're actual headset resolution... i dunno... but that's my current understanding of it..(or is it just a pixel density setting where the resolutions are unclear?)
If you like to use in the Dark you only lose Z-Axis but a IR LED does not help much as it loses tracking after a short time for this axis only. On RIFT S this worked very well. Serious gripe is the lack of a pivot for Headphone floating Speakers. Just lacks Bass and gets us turning up volumes to Max in APPS which makes the bounce without any Bass in them! Also it does not work well to switch to Desktop to use Mouse even with ALT-TAB and their daft special bind WIN+Y! Some Menus will need Full Screen Mode to access all buttons e.g. on DCS. IMPRESSED BY CLARITY and needs all SS removed and so too does not require much AA. NOT IMPRESSED BY SOUND & STEAMVR is very dodgy (flickers) on loading screens!!!!
Oh nice. Didn’t bow about the open Xr thing. Yeah I seen the resolution was set to high myself. My sim titles looked incredible though but only ran 60fps average with a 2080ti overclocked. Good stuff thanks!
Hi all, dont know if anyone is aware of this program but its great, its called smooth track £8 from app store and it tracks your head in mfs2020 you just put your phone on the same ip address as your computer and point your phone cam at your head and thats it. Hi JC. No just use WMR, no need for Steam VR unless that's your preferred run time. Thanks for watching, this video is a bit old now and I have more up to date versions
Mine came totally out of the blue on Saturday at 9am 😁, was in bed, good job I didn't miss it, absolutely love the visuals, totally blew me away, my 1080ti isn't doing too bad neither, what I don't get on steam vr though is there any point in changing the main resolution setting as won't the per application setting overide it anyway, I'm getting different results depending on the game, I can run half life alyx at 100% but then hellsplit I have to run at 50% so I'm just using the per application setting now for every game
0:13 "This is kinda the screen that you will probably be presented to when you plug in your headset for the first time" Plug which plug into which socket. There's lots of plugs that come with the headset. These screen images that he now shows are presented to on what? On the headset, on the monitor screen? Next we see how to pair the controllers. Then... 1:12 "Once you've done that... 1:20 "OK now you need to plug in your headset" But we have already been told to plug in the headset way back at 0:13 ?
I received my Reverb G2 yesterday and didn't realize I had it set to 60hz with motion reprojection 30fps. Wow was that a horrible experience in AF2. Changing back to 90 hz with motion reprojection make the sim great again. Your video was very informative, I will try bringing the scale down and perhaps I can get a constant 45fps. Still gonna upgrade though! Good Excuse ;)
Just purchased a HP Reverb G2, v2. Is there anyone that can actually show us how to open HP Reverb G2 (v2) for FS2020 in STEAM, in a step-by-step guide? All we see is 'tinkering with settings' - fine, if you can get your VR to work or up and running! We really need an step-by-step 'idiots guide' on how to open from within Steam. Six hours three of us have been at it and still we can't get the damn VR up and running at all.
Love ur streams mate. I was just scrolling through comments searching for this as i ordered g2 without controllers as well, should arrive in 2 weeks. Any tips u can give on how to? o7
Steam settings should be 2160x1.4 = 3024 (this adds the barrel distortion and improves the image even more). Give it a go. So - my steam setting is 92% rather than 100% and now reads 3024x21940 Looks amazing - but i'm running the 3090.
Hello! Great video! I was wondering if you would know why my G2 is only working in my right eye, the left is black and whit vertical lines. I’m connecting it to a MSI GS76 laptop through a adapter to a usb C port. HP sent me a new cable but it didn’t solve the problem. I know the port works because I’ve used it with a Quest 2 headset. I just can’t get the G2 to work correctly! Also I know the G2 works because I tried it on a different laptop that has a display port. I just can’t get it to work on this more powerful laptop that has a RTX 3080 card in it! Any ideas? Thx
how can i get star wars squadrons to run smooth i have 8700k 32 ram and 1080ti at the moment till a 3080 is avail to pick up? when i run it on my quest 2 it runs smooth with vd or link cable but when i run it on the g2 and turn the ship it looks like it has some reprojection.
So my reverb G2 arrived Friday and I was so excited I took off from work to hook it all up and get everything downloaded , steam- steamvr and I already had wmr on my rig. I got the G2 to play DCS. Gonna make this very short. I am having the worst time with all this and very disappointed !!!! Looks like crap- when I’m in DCS in the f18 hornet all I see is lines and no sound. I have watched your videos and many others and can’t get this thing working like your saying it does. Cant use my mouse and monitor to tweak things out.... very frustrating so I put the damn thing back in the box !!! My specs I-9700K M.2Nvme 2.tb Rtx 2080 super 32 gb of Ram It’s not that easy guys as he is saying it is.
These boundary instructions instructions need to take account of where the PC is in comparison to your play space. Not everyone is going to have their PC right in front of their play area. My PC is in a corner, quite away from my play area so it makes no sense to start pointing at the monitor. Better off starting off pointing at my TV instead. Biggest annoyance though is to have to run over to my PC to click centre and trace when *my* centre is metres away pointing in another direction. Is there any way to click Centre and Trace using the controllers so I don't have to walk across the room to click them, losing my ideal spot in the process?
When you select motion smoothing in steam VR, is it using the WMR implementation of motion smoothing? Isn't it something like async space warp like on oculus? I've never liked the async reprojection implementation on the vive
I have the Reverb and DCS. Just set it up. When I turn them on I have DCS playing in the background and the audio in the VR headset but I don’t have the DCS video in the headset, I have the Microsoft room you show at 2.00 in the video how do I get it to show DCS? I hear the audio but don’t see the video.
The Reverb G2 is having serious issues connecting if you have an X570 motherboard! HP is sending me a USB adapter to accommodate the power supply which is causing the issues. You need to make people aware of this and stop acting as if you don’t know about it. Many people will not be able to use the G2 until this is solved.
I wish this worked for me, my g2 has the one issue where the hz go above 90 on any loading screen which causes a overstack flow and close my game. I have the required parts for every game I’ve played and it still won’t work. Also, usb c or any SS usb ports don’t work on my pc but the front usb port (not c or ss) makes it work slightly so I have no clue how to fix that
Great video but have you any any idea why I get a message when trying to access the openxr developer settings stating "Something went wrong Error communicating with the mixed reality openxr service"? I have installed all the latest updates for windows 10 64bit and Nvidia RTX 2080 super The demo runs OK I cant get any info on this.
Hi, I recently purchased the hp reverb g2 headset. I have a problem with youtube vr. The screen is split in half horizontally. Like when you have a 3d television and you don't have glasses. I can't find a solution. A little help. Thanks a lot.
Hi Steve. When you unfold the dropdown menu on per application setting on steam vr, I see all your games get recognized. Such as dcs. For me dcs is not showing in said drop down menu? What can be the problem. Do you have steam version of DCS?
Can you help. I got my reverb g2 and on il2 and it's totally blurry. Really bad if I'm honest to the point I'm thinking of sending it back. There are jagged edges and dials are totally unreadable. I've gone through the settings but nothing seems to work. It's like I have no clear sweet spot whatsoever
Hey Steve, attempting to use your video to assist with setup of the G2 but Win10 isn’t progressing past the “Plug in the G2” screen. I’ve raised a thread on the VR Aviators page. Can you take a look and see if you can add any input please? Regards, Paul
@10:05 I wonder if that "Custom Resolution Multiplier" is having a problem because of a change in headsets? You might need to uninstall Steam VR, install the headset and then reinstall Steam VR. That might make it re-read some of the metadata within the new headset.
Thanks for all the VR guides, very useful and now my G2 is running very smoothly in MSFS. But one thing I couldn't nail, the cockpit stutter. I tried lowering both rendering resolution and custom render scale to minimum, but the cockpit still stutter, especially if I move my head instead of turning my head in the A320Neo cockpit. Do you have any solution to this? I suspect it's something to do with head tracking. Thanks
If I have the G2 plugged in and I click Steam on the desktop, it shows the VR version not the normal version. Can I load the standard version with the headset plugged in the USB-C?
Do you need the controllers to watch VR movies? I only want it for that and the headset along is cheaper. Can still run Virtual Desktop without controllers I presume and just click/drag movies downloaded and start watching? Yes?
Gonna try that open xr thing. One question: how do I import windows into our environment? Example: I want to bring in my simbrief ofp and charts and have the browser pinned to the cockpit. Is that possible with the g2?
Hi. Any advice on how I get into Steam VR settings. As soon as I start steam VR I end up in the Steam cliff house with no way of entering the setup section
I am having the worst ever experience setting this up in 2023. It somehow stopped my Main Computer monitor from working even apon restarting & even with having the HP reverb g2 not even plugged it. So it must have killed my display somehow. Had to plug in a TV to my PC to even get this set up. Also tracking is freaking out & being garbage. I really hoped this was gonna be a good headset but this is the WORST FIRST IMPRESSION OF ANY DEVICE IVE EVER PURCHASED!
Just got mine and it's not being recognized at all. Tried all usb ports and lightning port. Wmr just telling me to plug in the headset and it doesnt show in device manager. Such a bummer there are so many issues with the g2.
Shove the headset cable connector in VERY firmly. I had the same problem and that headset - cable incomplete insertion was my problem. More force on the plugging in fixed my connection. Also, altho improved so it doesn't break the first time you use it, the headset cable clasp on the back of the headset that you route the cable thru pops off far too easily. Try securing it with one of the twist ties that are part of the headset cable packaging. Electrical tape may also work.
We found the bug that is causing black screens with some G2 users and maybe other issues, The speakers draw too many amps causing the screens ether not to work at all or go black when they play deep bass, turn your volume down until it becomes playable 90-95%
I have had the sound cut out with deep bass - like when you blow up an enemy spaceship in Elite Dangerous. The sound cuts out for 2 seconds then comes back. Screen stays on though.
IN DCS VR (HP G2), why am i only getting only half of the sounds in the F/A 18 , it's like the communications works but no sound coming from the engines and stuff
I just got the G2. But how do I get VR in DCS? I have selected "Enable VR" in DCS, but it never turns on. I just get to walk around in the WMR environment. I can start the game, but not VR, just windowed mode
Having big time flickering issues with the Reverb G2 when enabling VR in MSFS 2020. After loading up the flight, enabling VR, I get switched back to the WMR Home Screen and the monitor showing in VR, is flickering. Re-installed WMR, updated Windows and the drivers for my GTX 1080 TI with no success and no issues running XPlane 11. Any suggestions?
Thanks , Very good Info as I'm a new VR (G2) user and still tweaking my setup. I downloaded the OpenXR but mine (104.2012.7003.0) has another option in the developer settings; "Motion Projection" should this be: disabled, automatic or "always on"

@@VRFlightSimGuy Quick follow up; read a ton of Reddits, and following their advice, tried every single USB port, and found ONE that worked! So, full audio, and no more glitches :) OK, time to get airborne ;)
@@nickatgmail Which mothboard you got? I read X570 had the problems. Personally I'm on B550.
@@sto_yt I can't wait to visit both in real life and in the sim! Yes I believe so.
@@VRFlightSimGuy I’m sure you’ll have a fantastic time here! If you want some travel tips, then Lofoten, Geirangerfjord and Røros would be my go to recommendations. Those three places represent Norway at its finest. I myself live in a small city called Trondheim in the middle of the country, which is also quite beautiful in its own way. Packing a rich history going back to the viking age - if you’re looking for a city to visit! 😊
If you could do a guide to getting the G2 and controllers set up in xplane it would be great! I had a samsung odyssey and couldn't do it, so I sold it...
What is a mirror as you referred to in this setup guide? I am a completely new user. Mirror???
regarding the steamvr setting 'render resolution - resolution per eye setting'
i read in a technical article that you're not really setting the resolution there for you're headset (like a monitor),
but that it has more to do with the resolution steamVR processes it before it warps and twists the image before rendering it suitable for vr...
which is why the steamvr never shows you're actual headset resolution...
i dunno... but that's my current understanding of it..(or is it just a pixel density setting where the resolutions are unclear?)
Its fab and it will do niceley until vr comes to the rift s
Just rewatching this setup guide. Curious, do you have both WMR & SteamVR open at the same time, or are you just using SteamVR ?
Hi JC. No just use WMR, no need for Steam VR unless that's your preferred run time. Thanks for watching, this video is a bit old now and I have more up to date versions
@@VRFlightSimGuy Ok thanks, Having trouble getting the reverb setup, no matter what I try, the visuals still have shimmer around the edges.
@@VRFlightSimGuy So do you use Store or Steam Version of MSFS ?
@@JCCFlying Store 👍
I'm glad someone reads the instructions so that I don't have to. Thanks!
Mine surprised me too, it was supposed to come in January but I’ve just got an email saying it’ll be here on the 24th 😀
Do the controllers need Bluetooth on the PC end?
Very helpful my friend👍 thanks a lot and take care
Thanks, you too!
0:13 "This is kinda the screen that you will probably be presented to when you plug in your headset for the first time"
Plug which plug into which socket.
Super useful thanks Steve!
Mine ships tomorrow. Its gonna be real interesting with an rx580 :D
Thanks for doing this video! Fighting fud with facts is always a good idea.
I just bought this without the controllers for use with DCS. I'd like to see how to set it up without the controllers please.
Love ur streams mate. I was just scrolling through comments searching for this as i ordered g2 without controllers as well, should arrive in 2 weeks. Any tips u can give on how to? o7
That was an absolutely perfect video, thank you! And sell the G1! 🙂
Steam settings should be 2160x1.4 = 3024 (this adds the barrel distortion and improves the image even more).
Give it a go.
So - my steam setting is 92% rather than 100% and now reads 3024x21940
Looks amazing - but i'm running the 3090.
Do you still use those settings? I have the RTX3090 and the G2… I when both general at 100% and video at 100% for all games..
Very good, thank you! 🙏🏻
I haven't tried this game.... Yet.

It’s not that easy guys as he is saying it is.
Thank you very much! :)
Set it down on a chair facing where you want it to?
THANK YOU SIRRR FOR THIS!!!!
Pleasure :)
Does this mean that one cannot play Microsoft flight sim in VR if they dont have the steam VR?
The Reverb G2 is having serious issues connecting if you have an X570 motherboard! HP is sending me a USB adapter to accommodate the power supply which is causing the issues. You need to make people aware of this and stop acting as if you don’t know about it. Many people will not be able to use the G2 until this is solved.
Thanks for making me aware of this issue (I have an X570 motherboard). Hope they find a fix very soon...
I see you have open a window "Mixed Reality Portal". Where did you get that? I can't get mine to download from the MS store.
I wish this worked for me, my g2 has the one issue where the hz go above 90 on any loading screen which causes a overstack flow and close my game. I have the required parts for every game I’ve played and it still won’t work. Also, usb c or any SS usb ports don’t work on my pc but the front usb port (not c or ss) makes it work slightly so I have no clue how to fix that
Great video but have you any any idea why I get a message when trying to access the openxr developer settings stating
"Something went wrong
Error communicating with the mixed reality openxr service"?
I have installed all the latest updates for windows 10 64bit and Nvidia RTX 2080 super
The demo runs OK
I cant get any info on this.
Have you had any "losing boundary" issues? I have had a decent amount of instances for that
Hi, I recently purchased the hp reverb g2 headset. I have a problem with youtube vr. The screen is split in half horizontally. Like when you have a 3d television and you don't have glasses. I can't find a solution. A little help. Thanks a lot.
thank you man
You're welcome!
Hi Steve. When you unfold the dropdown menu on per application setting on steam vr, I see all your games get recognized. Such as dcs. For me dcs is not showing in said drop down menu? What can be the problem. Do you have steam version of DCS?
Hi yes I use the Steam version of DCS.
Thinking of getting one for use in MSFS. As I intend to use my yoke and throttles, do I need to set up controllers and the room? Thanks.
My son did that and it is still the same.
Why don’t I get that sidebar to the left of my screen? I only have the room and the pop up menu. Am I using an updated version? Or is it my computer?
Do you need the controllers to watch VR movies? I only want it for that and the headset along is cheaper. Can still run Virtual Desktop without controllers I presume and just click/drag movies downloaded and start watching? Yes?
Hi buddy, can I apply this setting to my G1, will the openxr give any benefits with the G1 on DCS... thank you for yet another superb tutorial
Yes sure, many of these settings will apply to the G1.
@@VRFlightSimGuy you are a star!

How did you get steam to see the headset? WMR works fine for me but SteamVR doesn't see the headset
You need to install WMR for Steam VR app 👍
Gonna try that open xr thing. One question: how do I import windows into our environment? Example: I want to bring in my simbrief ofp and charts and have the browser pinned to the cockpit. Is that possible with the g2?
What was the software in the beginning?
I'm sure I just replied to this... I haven't had this problem on mine.
I have had the sound cut out with deep bass - like when you blow up an enemy spaceship in Elite Dangerous. The sound cuts out for 2 seconds then comes back. Screen stays on though.

I just got the G2. But how do I get VR in DCS? I have selected "Enable VR" in DCS, but it never turns on. I just get to walk around in the WMR environment. I can start the game, but not VR, just windowed mode
How kind ago did you order your g2
Having big time flickering issues with the Reverb G2 when enabling VR in MSFS 2020. After loading up the flight, enabling VR, I get switched back to the WMR Home Screen and the monitor showing in VR, is flickering.
