  • Ever wonder how a guy could turn a brand largly built on athleasure into one of the most well known brands in the industry? That's exactly what Jerry Lerenzo has done with Fear of God, well, essentials at least, but we'll get to that later.
Jerry has managed to this point to do 2 things not many streetwear brands have done, stand the test of time, while not selling out. But how did it all start? Lets find out. I'm Nate the Great from Takeflight214.com and this is the history of Fear of God.

Probably the most worn streetwear brand I've seen in public

Although FOG is not a “Christian brand”, make no mistake, Jerry Lorenzo is a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Just wanted to make that distinction.

I’m older and just found out about FOG and first thought it was a Japanese company partly bc Japanese streetwear brand are all about quality.
Back when I was coming up in the 90’s, ppl. wearing streetwear weren’t that into quality and just wanted big brands that everyone knew about like Stussy and XL. But since I was also into designer clothes back then, I’ve alway appreciated the quality of designer clothes and the luxury many hood.
Anyway, good to know an American brand is upping the game and just like creating the perfect t shirt or hoodie, there’s still room in the fashion industry to refine. I remember when folks were jumping on street wear hard back in the early 2000, but bc many started with small capital, the quality was always over looked. As tho many of these start ups were just wanting to see their product in stores and have ppl. wearing.
Hopefully with this direction from FOG, other will follow bc like I said in my generation, most didn’t care that much about quality and if in the 90’s I said to almost anyone about stitching quality, they would look at me like I went crazy bc they did that when I was buying multiple Nikes and many not wearing. That was insane to do in the mid 90’s bc of you were lucky to buy certain sneakers, you had them on your feet asap and not still sitting in the Og box. Yeah, I was one of the first buying sneakers and collecting bc I loved the design. But no one was doing that and the only ones doing that were the Japanese. Like that dude who started bathing ape and has a building with his collection.

As much as I like the aesthetic of the brand, some of the pieces look and feel cheap and the colors wear out pretty quick if you do not wash them properly. I mainly started collecting the brand because of the TMC/Nipsey Hussle collab but now I am trying to get a hold of most New Era collab caps.

Great video. Personally I have never understood the appeal of F.O.G. It's just too simple and bland for me but thousands obviously disagree with me.

I feel you, look wise much of the essential stuff can be replicated with H&M or Zara pieces (I’ve done this) for a fraction of the price. 😂
