Thank you so much for this buddy. About to fit sills for the first time and watched a few videos but they confused me more 😂😂 I totally got this and am going to have it on hand for my first one. Brilliantly explained, thanks so much

Really great & informative video for home owners!
    A tip:
(for someone confident in their skills because it can be potentially more dangerous)
When making your cuts before on the table-saw before using the jig-saw to finish them. Extend the blade to its maximum,
this leaves very little left to cut with the jigsaw.
When finishing the cut with the jigsaw, make sure to hold it at a slight angle outwards to point the blade more towards the bottom edge left over.
(if you cut more than needed, it's hidden)

Maybe one day! Yeah, its a lot quicker and faster with the right tools.. After getting quotes to do the work, I realized I could buy the tools and materials and complete the work for almost half the price!

Very helpful. is that wood pine?

My trimless windows are sheetrock all the way around. Is there any reason why I can't just put the stool directly on top of existing sheetrock rather than tear it out? I will be using finger-jointed pine, pre-primed for the stool.

No issues with going over the Sheetrock! You may run into the problem of not having enough space on the bottom of the window for both. The handle for some of my windows is pretty low

Thank you! For my window since it’s already sheetrocked, is there a simple method you recommend for removing this before building the stool without damaging the area?

Great question! Most likely there will be a metal edge around the window, so a sheetrock knife may not be enough. I've seen a Sawzall used as well as a oscillating multi tool. Let me know if you do it and how it worked out!

@@mattdobson123 I actually ended up using a screw driver and hammer to chisel away the old drywall mud and then worked away until I could access the drywall under the metal edge thing you mentioned! Probably not the quickest way but made sure I didn’t damage the area surrounding! Appreciate your training, it worked like a charm with the build and I did it myself!

You didn't put a level on the stool so how do you know it is level?

Is that a specific wood that you used for the window stool?

  • @summerwitt1603

Similar to Ms. Baggs' comment, I'll be removing drywall from the window ledge and the surround as well (due to a nasty tile job destroying the area, it all needs replacing). I won't replace the drywall where the stool will lay, but my question is this: Was that a metal corner bead attaching the sheetrock of your wall to the wood of your lower window framing? I'll need to remove my lower corner bead to remove my drywall, but do I need to reinstall corner bead on that edge before installing the stool?

      @mattdobson123  2 роки тому +1

Thanks for watching! no need to re-install the metal corner bead under the stool! It's only to protect the edge from damage.. Let me know how it turns out!

What router bit/size did you use?

I used a 1/4" for this project, but sometimes use a 3/8" - just depends on the look you're going for! thanks for watching!
