    Hi Doc,
    Glad you chose that pick.
    I own and operate a race engine shop. I must keep about a dozen of those picks in inventory and in rotation to remove spiral locks that retain the wrist pins on our floating bushed rods

    Listen, almost all Snap-on tools are a no brainier for a favorite's list. I started buying Snap-on tools way back in 1980. Got a few off the truck last month. The real issue has been and always will be price. I have a few on your list, like the HL pliers, very nice and you can't find them elsewhere. I haven't been a mechanic since I started 4 years working on F-16's in the Air Force many years ago. So, when I buy tools now, price is a major consideration. I know they are better, the question for me, and many others is, are the worth the price difference. I sometime say yes, and many times say no. Had a set of 1980 Snap-on pry bars and I love the look of the more modern ones, but when they and many other Snap-on tools were stolen, I didn't replace them all with Snap-on. I have two Mayhew bars and I think 3 Tekton bars now. They get the job done. My stolen Sockets have been replaced with Tekton also. Wrench's, I have some Snap-on and some Caprie, Tekton, and Icon, plus my original Craftsman from my first teenage set I purchased myself in the 70's. Seems the thief has Snap-on on his favorite list too. I buy Snap-on to quinch my love of tools, but I still need to make sound choices. I love cars too, but I'm not going to sell my real estate investments or raid my retirement fund for a Lamborghini or some other high-end vehicle. That wouldn't be prudent. Neither is buying Snap-on all the time.

    That pick, with that specific angle, I have the same thing from harbor freight, 2 bucks for a pack of four, has yet to fail me, but I absolutely agree with about everything else, I pick snapon for the tools no one else makes or no one else does better

    That pick shape has always been my go to as well for o rings. Rarely did I grab the hook unless I am pulling something (I use it to assemble car seats now haha) and the 90 and straights are just there…. Not needed

    I like Snap-On but I just wish the quality control was better, especially considering the prices. I typically have to order from the website so I don’t get to handpick off a truck.

    I like your choices. I keep my Snap-On ASA204 mini pick set in my EDC and have it with me or close to me every day. (We're talking somewhere before 1990, so they're a few years old). 😁Yes - the old handle design and the 3ASH45 with the double curve is my favorite one.

    Hard to pick only 5. But interestingly enough, one that makes the list is the same green ratcheting stubby you have. I actually think that because it's so useful, feels great in the palm of hand and the lifetime warranty, it's not priced too high. Of course, that's only my opinion.
    Another one that makes the list would be the LN47ACF - a game-changing combination plier.
    As for the remaining 3... for good measure, may I be allowed to multiply that by 3? lol If so, I would pick various size/styles of Dual-80's and a 1/4 swivel head. 🤩

    @4:17 If you made a video on this subject, I'd appreciate it! Which tools should be inspected in person before their purchase, and which other tools-pliers, for example-don't need to be inspected in person? I purchase new Snap-on tools on eBay, so this information would be really helpful!
    "What Snap-On Tools You Should Inspect on the Tool Truck Before Buying" might be a good title of the video.

      @@BigChillingGoingDown depends on which one you are using, and application. I have 2 3/8 Koken ratchets, 1 is my ZSeries 72 tooth ( 3726ZB-280) I use this for normal stuff, no high torque applications. My second Koken (3753N) is the 3/8 ratchet I use for high torque applications. It has 24 teeth, still buttery smooth, but the low tooth count allows for more torque.

    I placed my first ever Snap On order online a few days ago. Ordered an F80, T72 and the LN46ACF. Well they just arrived today and I have to say the presentation is abysmal for a $339.72 order of 3 items. All three items were packaged in one single plastic bag. I get it, the tool isn’t about packaging that most people throw away but come on, there’s no meat on the bone for a cardboard box. Somehow Knipex can do it. Disappointing experience.

    • @lastbesttool
      @lastbesttool  6 місяців тому

      I hear you. That’s a common experience unfortunately. Seems the pride of Snap On does not run through the entire customer-side supply chain. However, and you did not hear this from me, but if there are any imperfections with your new tools, please mail customer service and they may send you a new tool along with an apology.

    • @pieces94
      @pieces94 6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks for the reply! Funny you mention that. The ratchets have wear that is consistent with banging around in shipping but nothing that wouldn’t be normal wear after a few uses. The LN46ACF, however, when the jaws come together they contact then click and shift so the teeth interlock. Can’t pick up a coin on the edge but that’s just a neat parlor trick. Maybe I’ll see what they say, thanks to the unknown little birdie who passed the info.

    As far as I can tell you’re suggesting their best tools are their ratchets? I like the Hazet and I was contemplating the Wera. I was actually wondering if you were to get Snap On which tools you think are best versus the other German Competitors.

    • @BigChillingGoingDown
      @BigChillingGoingDown 6 місяців тому +1

      Any serious strength testing shows Hazet, Stahlwille, and Wera ratchets are a notch below Snap on in terms of durability and strength. I understand it's trendy to own European tools, but there is simply no reason to buy any other brand of ratchet.

    • @1234Robocop
      @1234Robocop 4 місяці тому

      @@BigChillingGoingDown I agree, all of the German ratchets(Hazet, Stahlwille, Gedore) I’ve used have been good but not great. I personally do not like Wera ratchets at all. It’s hard to beat Snap-on, Matco, Mac, etc ratchet wise. I also enjoyed using Koken ratchets if you are looking for something more exotic. I love German tools and own a ton but their ratchet and sockets never did it for me.

      No, I do understand what this channel is about. I've been watching this channel for a few months and for the most part "Doc" is very informative about tools. For this episode, especially at the beginning "Doc" is knocking out tools here and there and he's very wishy-washy about the others. All the Snapon tools he has on that table are the best to be the "go to tool". Don't be a lap dog for Doc, I'm just giving my opinion. He's not going to pay you for standing up for him...
