I greatly appreciate you taking the time and effort to letting me tag along on some of your flights. Got to be a lot more work editing the film with all those cameras than the actual flight:) Your comments are perfect. Really a high quality product you have put together here. Your channel is the first real one showcasing this wonderful aircraft, I don't understand why some company has not reincarnated the plane by in production. You are doing a great job and really like the full explanation of the flight systems, hard to find anywhere else. I hope sometime you will explain the full down throttle positions prior to moving forward. Thanks Again I am onboard.....
Charles, glad to have you riding along with me. I will try to cover this in the next videos.. but, in short - we need to put the props "on the locks" - meaning, we want to lock the props in the flat configuration at shutdown. Since the Garrett engines are direct drive, when you start up, you are turning the mass of the prop in addition to the turbine compressor section to spool up to speed. If the blades were feathered, you would create too much drag and not get a safe start. Hopefully this makes some sense?

It was a big deal to standardize the checklist, that was an area where people doing their own thing caused issues in the past.
NTS systems indicates when the prop starts to drive the turbine. A device called a torque sensor has a gear attached to a small piston that will move to divert oil. This diversion will result in the prop going to feather. Just a simple explanation. There are other devices that are also involved. The -10 has the torque sensing device on the nose gears. Where the bull gear and sun gears are. From a 74 yr old A&P overhauling 331 &731s. since 1973
Unfortunately they quit manufacturing in the early 80s when the aviation of the street fell under assault by lawsuits. Offhand I believe they’re a little less than 300 still actively flying around the world
Luis - good catch. In a twin engine, we really focus on Vmc speeds, and honestly get focused on the white arc as much. Flap 5 max speed is 175knt, Flaps 20 is 155knts , those are more notable day to day.

@@mu2b60marquise - Thanks for the explanation. It would be awesome to see you perform a complete checklist up at some point. 🙂
@@VirtualAviationAviator Will try to do that. Also, there is only one approved checklist for the plane ( post the SFAR ) , so I will try to take a picture of that and send it to you as a reference.
Alright man, when are we going flying?
Anytime you are on the correct coast :)
Is the MU2 still being manufactured and are many flying in the country?
Unfortunately they quit manufacturing in the early 80s when the aviation of the street fell under assault by lawsuits. Offhand I believe they’re a little less than 300 still actively flying around the world
@@mu2b60marquise Thanks.
What about the spoilers on the MU-2, do they activate automatically or manually?
They are manual
why the white arc speedometer is so small the arc itself notmally covers flapspeed (copilot side)
Luis - good catch. In a twin engine, we really focus on Vmc speeds, and honestly get focused on the white arc as much. Flap 5 max speed is 175knt, Flaps 20 is 155knts , those are more notable day to day.
@@mu2b60marquise thanks ive testef many features in the xplane mu2 and theyre spot on. as soon as rotation feels floaty it wobles a bit i suppose asking for speed as you do
@@falopio67 great!
