Euell Gibbons spoof - "The Electric Company"
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 сер 2013
- Naturalist Euell Gibbons ("Ever eat a pine tree?") is parodied by Company member Skip Hinnant in this sketch from the classic PBS educational program produced by the Children's Television Workshop. Several samples taken from this skit were used on MF Doom's 2004 album "Mm.. Food."
The Electric Company was a revolutionary and influential children's educational program utilizing such talents as Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby, Rita Moreno, Mel Brooks, Joan Rivers, Gene Wilder, Victor Borge, Tom Lehrer, and a young Irene Cara. The head writer for the show was Tom Whedon, father of Joss Whedon. All copyrights are hereby acknowledged. I fully agree
"I've tripped a lot out here in the woods lately"
That's a kid's show from the 70's, I guess!
Yes!!!
I love that this was obviously improvised too
I thought he was talking about lsd when I first heard the interlude lol

Yes it was... The Electric Company, as a matter of fact. My younger brother Darin and I watched it each day after school. Skip Hinnant was the brilliant actor doing the part we saw. As a little girl I had a massive crush on him... 😅
MF DOOM man, his sampling skills are legendary. What a choice!

MF DOOM brought me here. I had absolutely no idea the samples of this on MM..FOOD! were from The Electric Company.
Rest in peace Doom, could do with some Bicarbonate of Fig-Leaf at the moment
It'll set me free
Great line. "I may be crazy as a blue jay but I'm consistent."
Fun fact: this guy, Skip Hinnant, voiced Fritz the Cat in the 1972 X-rated movie. So to see him on a children's show is kinda hilarious.
Yeah what's even more funny is that Fritz the Cat tone was Skip Hinnants real voice it was funny as hell hearing Fritz the Cats voice come out of Fargo North Decoder and all of Skip Hinnants other characters
exactly how i expected him to look
I was just about to comment that! even the framing and the fake woodsy background are the same as I imagined!
Same except, I thought he’d have a beard.
I’d thought it would actually be out in the open and he’d have an explorer’s attire
I was thinking patchy the pirate
Rest in peace to the illest of villains.
"I mix up some erbs, and... I come up with a dandy glass of this, bi-carbonate of fig leaf, that'll set me free I'll tell you."
I'd like to think that he was adlibbing for about 50% of this sketch.
@@thetreasurehouse1742 Gotta be, haha

Very satisfying. MM FOOD.
Years and years it took to find this
I love how every comment is about MF DOOM.
When I first heard MM...FOOD, I knew I had heard one of the samples from my childhood. Little did I know it was the voice of Skip Hinnant from The Electric Company. Like many here, I finally found it.
I'm not familiar with Euell Gibbons, but it's always interesting how Sesame Street and Electric Company would utilize well-known references in their stuff. It's cool now that I'm grown up to see the stuff I watched as a kid because now I am old enough to get the references. I did not see this particular clip when I was a kid, but the show really gave me my literacy, as I was able to read and write at 3 years old.

Loved the Electric Company! As a kid I didn’t appreciate the humor as much as I do now 😄
As a kid I didn't appreciate the humor either
mostly because I wasn't born when it was around
thank u DOOM

"Taking my dessert here", good work Mr. Whedon Sr.
Could have been an ad lib, but still a good line!
Food... we need food!
I loved this show as a kid! Thank you for posting it!
Thank you for uploading this!
I feel like I just went through a rite of passage watching this 😂
So nice to finally know where that sample came from!
After listening to the album for decades my ADD finally brought me here; only to find out that he literally trips over something and that's where the line comes from. Smh Doom Forever!!
He's exactly how i imagine he looks like from when i heard the sample
First skit on Episode 375. Episode #375 (original airdate March 29, 1974) ran quite long; its ending corporate credits were shortened, with the alternate closing logo graphic used.
Depend on him for food and you might STarve!! 😁👍
Exactly how I pictured it
Fabulous spoof. It was made for the grown-ups. I bet Early had a caST iron STomach to be able to eat all that STuff.
Imagine how much work it took to research potential samples, chop up potential ones, edit the ones he actually picked, make them sound harmonious and hip-hop... just brilliant.
I lost my appetite after seeing this clip. I don't feel hungry any more.
FILLET O RAPPER!!!
"Over this way, Miss Grownup"; Julia Child of course!
*GUMBO*
Thank you! Now I know !

As with a lot of DOOM samples, *how did he even come across half this stuff?*
Because he is DOOM he knows everything
Saw it on TV?
Just like him referencing Muppets, Scooby Doo and Land of the Lost, he probably grew up on the electric company and these other trippy shows
Makes me hungry watching this. Think I'll go grab a STick to chew on till supper time!
Never knew where DOOM sampled this from but upon hearing it in Mm.. Food, I thought this sounded a lot like Martin Short.
RIP MF DOOM 🕊🕊
I finally found it! And yeah, Doom sent me here.
You know why I'm here.
Euell Gibbons died within a year or two after this sketch was made.
damn. rip
