I just got my freeze dryer a couple weeks ago, one of my problems... not the freeze dryer... is the bag sealer. It only stays on for about two and one half seconds on the number 8 setting. Is this right? I sent a squawk off to HR, have not heard back from them. My only other problem has been the ball valve for the vacuum, your video on that problem has been very helpful. I'm going to replace that with one from Home Depot as you suggested. Thanks so much.
I haven't played around with the sealer, but I believe it's on timer. The higher the number the longer the sealer stays hot. See if this site helps: sealers101.com/2012/10/03/help-my-sealer-isnt-working/
Over time the heating strip can build electrical resistance. Increase the heat until you get a good seal. The time may come to replace your heat strip and Teflon cover.
An excellent, straight-forward, and HELPFUL demonstration ~ thank you.
Thank you
Great video and great information
Exactly what I needed. Thanks!!!

Hey Phil, great video showing how to seal the bags. Thank you! Were did you purchase the bags and oxygen absorbers?

Hi Phil, can u refer a good replacement strip and wire for this exact sealer? I'm having trouble figuring it out. Thank you for your time. 💜💙
I have not replaced my element yet, although I should. Search this phase: "12" impulse sealer wire replacement" I will order soon.
Phil, my new hr sealer is not dealing the bags… I cut them in half so I can have quart size bags, but I’ve upped the heat and still , no dice…
Is it getting hot? To seal 7 mil bags my setting is all the way up.
Good to know how! Thanks!
Wow, my HR sealer won't even seal cheap baggies at setting 3. Requires at least a 6. Haven't tried mylar yet. Waiting for my first batch to complete.
Persevere
Confirmed. I need to do at least two presses on the highest setting to get a good Mylar seal.
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure
my sealer isnt sealing at 7 with mylar am I doing something wrong?

How do you know what number setting to put it on?
Trial and error. You should have a good pattern of the Teflon cloth embedded in the "Mylar" bag. Storage bags should be around 7-8. OA bags around 3-4
@@Philat4800feet thanks 👍
How do you seal 5 gallon Mylar bags, please.
Good question. I haven't tried it. I would try sealing half at a time and having overlap in the center.
Great idea! Thank you.
what brand sealer is that?
The standard HR (800 watt) sealer.
You need to get some smaller bags. It’s a waste using a large bag with not even half full.
My wife concurs with you. They're on order.
