As I get older I understand each doctor. We've all wanted a reward, something to show what we've accomplished even at the end of the line. We see people sacrifice for us and alot of the time we feel we're not worth it, but yet we'd sacrifice ourselves given the opportunity for them. We'd fight tooth and nail for our loved ones

Russell T Davies, Julie Gardner, and David Tennant had all roughly planned to leave after 4 years. So RTD sort of had this arc for the 10th Doctor going through his head the whole time.
