  • If you would like to see me restore another rocking chair - • Video
    Or if you would like to see a different type of project - • Incredible Transformat...
    In this week's repair and restoration video, we tackle another junkyard furniture find to transform it from barf to beauty. I found this moldy, rotting rocking chair in a pile of wet trash and had to let it sit inside for four months to let it dry out before working on it.
    The project began with a disassembly as usual. Every piece had to be treated for mold and water stains using vinegar and oxalic acid. I turned two new finials on the wood lathe, fabricated a new rocker end piece, repaired a broken seat back, and fitted new cane to the seat. All of the old finish was removed, everything was cleaned and sanded, and finally the wood was treated with linseed oil and finishing wax. The result is incredible.
    Chapters:
    00:00 Intro and disassembly
    02:37 Turning new finial pieces
    06:10 Repairing the seat backing
    07:56 Repairing the rockers
    11:02 Repairing and caning the seat
    16:19 Other minor repairs
    17:53 Assembly
    18:55 Final reveal
    The caning kit I purchased was supplied by Peerless Rattan in Michigan. This video is not sponsored by this supplier but they provided great service so I recommend that you talk to them if you want to learn to cane a chair. The website is peerlessrattan.com or you can find them on UA-cam at ‪@peerlessrattansuppliesllc7113‬
    You can find the kit I used here - amzn.to/3XW0Pg5
    Or you can find it on the supplier's website.

    The restauration work on this project is spectacular. But what is even more impressive is the time and care put into editing the video. I can't help thinking that editing and patching together all the footage so beautifully might even have taken longer than the restauration itself! What a well-put together presentation!

    • @Restorology
      @Restorology  11 місяців тому +4

      Thanks for the great feedback, especially regarding the editing. You are probably correct, there may be more time in the post production steps than the actual project itself. I counted over 650 shots that I logged and maybe used a fifth of those in the final edit. Crazy.
