One of my favorite things about this movie it's the fan theory that Sean Connery character is actually James Bond, may sound stupid but once you look it up it kinda makes sense.
@@1Animal486 it was explained he says 22nd sas but tells the Nicholas cage character he was trained by British intelligence in the movie. Essentially he lied to the general to keep his cover or as muscle memory
Funny story, this movie came out not too terribly long before I joined the Marine Corps so, needless to say, I was obsessed with it. I distinctly remember in SOI in one of our NBC classes they brought out atropine. My only knowledge of it was from this movie so I was thinking "omg, they're about to show us how to stab ourselves in the heart!!!". Nope. Not even close. I was pretty relieved when they were like "yeah, just slam it into your thigh".
I am nothing special but I was on a TST (time sensitive target team with the Infantry) in Iraq as a medic and most the missions were at night by UH-60 and my first mission our bird did the same thing, i had the same reaction and was told it was the chaff dispenser going off and evasive maneuvering due to suspected RPG, it sounded like we were hit when the damn dispenser went off.
The Rock has probably the best premise of any movie in the 90s, even with the silly Batman grappling hook. What makes Hummel intriguing as a villain is that he's bad because he's threatening to kill civilians, but he commands respect and he isn't entirely wrong to be angry that the US denies the memory of soldiers (particularly with lingering bitterness about Vietnam before Saving Private Ryan flips public memory), and he ultimately isn't a madman. The uncertainty that he isn't all wrong makes him different from Hans Gruber as the other memorable 90s villain, who has no redeeming motive.
he is a mad man for sure. Sean connery said it "this isn't combat, it's an act of lunacy". he represents the acceptable side of American military insanity (patriotism, viciousness) which is then mixed with the unacceptable sides to highlight them.
movie always reminds me of my best friend in high school. He sold his 70's K5 Blazer to the production company. They spayed it black and blew it up in the chase scene.
Always loved Hard Target with Van Damme. Hes a former Force Recon Marine that takes on like 50 assassin/mercenaries…with a mullet, a shotgun, and kicks to the face lmao fucking awesome!
Not to be the All-Star in the comments, but on your helicopter story, it very well could've been just popping flares in preparation for the landing phase. I was a Huey Crew chief in the Marine Corps, and tactics we practiced were if you're approaching an LZ of a commonplace, be unpredictable to the enemy. Its easy to target a helicopter in the landing phase if you know that every time a helicopter lands here it takes this approach at this speed, etc. So before entering final, do something unpredictable. Idk the background to your story, if you were landing at a FOB, main base or what, but flares do pop off white when dispensed, as well as chaff. Also, the helicopter in the scene looks to be an AH-1W Cobra, assuming you're talking about the attack chopper and not the transport in the background.
I’m not sure how it would do with your views but I’d really enjoy these to be longer, especially with Lone Survivor, 13 Hours, American Sniper and so on. 20-30 mins isn’t long enough!😜 Hope you had a great weekend! Much love and Respect brother Buck🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I know for certain that the US Navy uses different lingo than that of the US Army. In one of the scenes it seemed to me like you were trying to identify one of the helicopters they were used during their insertion. The attack helicopters, the escorts, were AH-1 Cobra's. The transport helicopter might have been a CH-46 Sea Knight but it looked more like a CH-47 Chinook. The part of the movie that I found a bit goofy was in the opening moments Gen. Hummel arrives at the weapons storage facility under the guise of an inspection. First, I don't care what the guys rank is, if he doesn't have security clearance for that site, he isn't getting past the gate. I worked for such a location while in the military, and access is tightly controlled with picture ID of everyone with clearance. I don't recall there ever been a surprise inspection either. Second, with the exception of Major Baxter, the team looked like they were hobbled together from a weekend airsoft event.
Actually it was a Sea Sprite in the first shot. Same Helo they use for Marine 1. Nailed the Cobra escorts, they were old gen Cobras even at that time. They were decommissioning the Sea Sprite at that time. We had 60's and 46's while I was in. That was before and during this time.
As always entertaining content, this is one of my favorite films and easily Nick Cages best work. Ed Harris, Connery and Navy SEAL actor Micheal Biehn make this film amazing. I still have a hard time watching the shower scene when the Marines have the high ground. The conversation between Biehn and Harris is top notch. Heart wrenching part for sure.
This is probably the best cast action movie of all time. Michael Biehn was in Navy SEALs and the Abyss, Sean Connery was 007, turned Nicholas Cage into a huge action star, and all the supporting cast had been in similar roles throughout out movies and TV shows. The helicopter-shower scene used active duty SEALs as well.
Guns in movies, basics: - Always make clicking noises when you point them - If you threaten someone with a gun or sneak up behind them, the gun is automatically a single action gun with hammer down, even if you just shot it, so that you can cock the hammer, making another clicking sound to go with your one-liner. - Shotguns *MUST* be pumped every time the camera cuts to the shotgun or it enters a new room, doesn't matter if the shotgun is semi-auto or Elmer Fudd, always pump that thing. And there is either nothing ejeced or always an empty shell, never a live one and you can kick down 15 doors, pump it every time and still have full tube of ammo.
"The terrain is going to dictate the pattern" Which is probably why they choose dark straight lines. They're going into a building with bars everywhere that are casting long straight line shadows
Great review! You ready should do a breakdown on Battle: Los Angles. I think is would be fun given how good the engagement scenes are. Plus the movies technical advisor was supposed to be pretty squared away.
0:55, Literally LOLd at your reaction... We had grappling hooks in my MEU (SOC). I never got to play with the CO2-powered gun,or shoot it, other than a block on what it is and how to use it. But we usually carried at least one line with a hook, per squad, for the Assault Element in CQB. [And you didn't WANT more than one person to be climbing it at a time...lol...you probably Could... but why not get one man up, maybe a second person for security, while the rope, with or without the hook..usually with (you just wrap it around anything that looks like it...Hopefully...will stay put, and run the line through a hook to secure it...) made more secure.] ...but anyway, they were already attached to a static line and "butterflied", then placed just on top of your (or whoever's) ALICE pack. When you get to your ORP, or other predesignated point, you get out your line and get ready to twirl n hurl that bad chicken
15:58 so I’m not claiming this from any measure of personal experience but I have heard a pilot explain that, that is literally their procedure for dropping flares. Like he described it the exact way you say the helicopter reacted so I’d guess it was genuinely just flares. The rapid decent, banking etc it’s all to get away from the location of the flare heat signature.
Here's THE question that's been rattling around my head since I first saw this movie in 96: If you would had been the SEAL commander, how would you have safely exfil your team from the showers knowing that its its layout is basically a kill box ? I'm no operator but even I wouldn't have brought my whole team out at once without first finding an egress route or breaching one out right away !!! Love B & B and my recommandation for your next movie is 'In the Valley of Elah'. Thank you!
I'd have gone with a non violent solution. No way no how is anyone making it out. Talk to the opposition, lay down your weapons, find another way to break out later.
He used a shoulder line throwing gun. Our us a rifle grenade cartridge fired from a old 1903. It designed for sending a messenger like to a boat that line is connected to a larger line for doing a tow.
I remember being in Chem Warfare Requalification class in 2000 at Hill AFB, UT and the instructors had this movie playing. They let us in on a little secret that the supposed "VX" gas was complete BS. The real stuff looks like motor oil and he could put a spoonful in the middle of the floor and walk around it all day and nothing would to you. You actually get it in your body to actually kid you. But yes it is a fun movie to watch.

Ms Taylor did nothing wrong. While you *might* be able to blame it on bad laws that allow things like a no-knock warrant, or shooting at people who you are not absuluty certain present a threat, she did nothing wrong.
I had the same experience as Buck when I arrived in Baghdad. C130 suddenly dropped altitude and did evasive maneuvers. Some 10th Mount dude looking out the window said "flare". (It was a night arrival at the BIAP). The pilot only said the plane was landing fast. "As soon as the ramp drops, run straight to the terminal as fast as you can." We did. But I didn't see any IDF landing on the tarmac, nor heard any gunfire. I was a new guy like Buck and didn't ask if we were shot at during landing. All I cared was I landed safely. That's good enough for me
Loveing these beers and breakdowns. You guys ever considered breaking down some video games? Medal of Honor(2010) is one I have in mind. It's has a ton of Tier 1 action and some Army Ranger action sprinkled in the mix.
Hey guys love your video and Thank you for your service . I kind of wanted to comment on the scene where they were stealing the vx gas rockets ...when the guy gets locked in the freezer room with the gas ..it wasn't Ed Harris who called to lock the door .it was his second in command .....and when Harris did find out his face when he s looking at his 2nd in command had pain written all over it . Also the cool helicopter you were asking about was a Huehy Cobra ......I was really surprised you guys didn't show the shower scene with the Seals but I think I might know why but I'm not sure anyway good videos guys enjoy them a lot ....
19:10 kiefer sutherlands character in phonebooth said it best "you know in movies, when the good guy is about to kill the bad guy, he cocks his gun, now why didn't he have it cocked? Because that sound is scary" I'm guessing that's the rule of thumb in hollywood
Coming from a CBRNE background, I assume they are trying to replicate the MK 1 Nerve Agent kit in the lab scene. These are auto-injectors meant to be injected into the lateral aspect of the thigh. Not the heart.
I was like 7 or 8 years old when I see this movies 1993 or 1994 and. Damn I remember the day like it was yesterday and I remember being really sad when Sean Connery died on the movie .
I always found three things to be unbelievable in this movie knowing that this is supposed to be awesome and not realistic: 1) Connery got out, not back in, his roll would likely be off for the flame scene 2) the general tells two captains that they are performing as well as their reputations...he doesn't know these men? I would only choose ride or die brothers for this. 3) the pit where the seals all get killed...the marines knew that would be the place, no guard, no claymore, no grenades?...what?
The chopper story, something happened to me (us). Though I asked the rear Gunner and he confirmed yes,but added, "oh, he shoots at us all the time. He can't hit shit".....
You should watch Mosul on Netflix, it takes place during ISIS’s push into Mosul and a group of Nineveh SWAT team members fighting against them. It’s fictional but it’s pretty good.
Camo and makeup help. It's the opposite. For camo, make easily lite protruding things darker. And makeup you make it lighter. So camo, forehead, nose, cheekbones, chin dark. Eyes, below bottom lip, below nose, light.
I never understood the whole, "Stabbing yourself in the heart" thing with the atropine injector...I was always taught in case you're exposed during a CBR attack to use your atropine injector and inject it into your thigh.
It was a common technique during cardiac arrest [and I'm sure other situations] up to the 1960's, declining through the 1970's; my guess is the writers grew up when it was commonly practiced and weren't aware that it's not used anymore and just thought it would be cool.
Just re watched this one boys, always fun to go back. As a cop we use the Glock 17and the Bushmaster M4. I love seeing them being used in movies with the clicking sound. So stupid. Thats said. My theory on the clicking sounds from the firearms in movies is: Most if not all action Hollywood movies are essentially a western. The pursuits, the stand offs etc. The first movies that had gun stand off were westerns. As such when you drew you’d cock it which would bring the click and create the feeling tension. I guess movies just like to keep with that simple but effective approach. Most civilians dont now any better.
Ouch! That hurt a little when you said movies from when you were kids. Kinda like when I look in the mirror.😂. I love this stuff you guys do with the movies. Great content.
Are u guys gonna do lone Survivor. I might have asked before. 3/4 darkside marine. We had green berets with us in iraq the 1st time doing raids the seals couldnt do out side fallujah. I did 3 tours with darkside got out then was 1/138th infantry in missouri. If no answer no biggy.
Yeah I wasn't bad review but I honestly wish they would have done a few more scenes. The shower room scene, the Mason meeting Hummel scene, the rocket launch, and the double grenade scene.
@@napalmstickylikeglue I guess it's probably harder with an iconic movie like the rick to pick and choose but I completely agree with everything you just said
Really like you guys but in my opinion you do skip some important military tactical scenes. So yah, the high ground scenario. What would you have done? Would the person leading a Navy Seal unit really not surrender in what looked to be a no win suicide situation? I know this video was posted a few months back but I just started binge watching your content 😮
How did you guys not examine the scene where Connery is mocking him about "doing his best"?! That's probably the best line in the movie. I could almost hear Goggins saying it. ua-cam.com/video/gXDSxgDUv-c/v-deo.html
6:13 he shut the door on him bc the gas is so potent that it would of killed the other guys as well if they got exposed to it. So it was either just him or all of them.
Hey man. Are u up to review foreign military movies? Would love to hear your breakdown on Malaysian movie called Paskal (2018). Not sure if its available on Netflix US or not.
Love your guys content, Would love to see a little more structure to these videos, maybe some research into the movie or a little more from scenes going into the movie. Maybe its a time thing if you're trying to keep it short-ish. Maybe look at doing a video podcast or something on these to give some of these awesome movies a full breakdown. Just some thoughts! Thanks guys.
What are you nuts man? You don't tell Green Berets what to do. If they want to make 5 minute videos at Hooters, that's their business. If they want to review The Rock while baking cookies, that's their right too.
For the helicopter story, would they be popping flares and making evasive maneuvers on the approach as that's kind of a known direction of travel and maybe someo bad guy could set up with a MANPAD waiting for incoming transports. I think I've seen the reverse where transports pop a shit-ton of flares leaving. Just a thought.
@@napalmstickylikeglue sometimes i think that, but it was right after they say "lets shoot them" and it was with the tip of the rifle, taking it back and then forward again..so i dont know
@@AsdeEspadas.Fernando yeah it was the one guy who said it but if I recall the guy who actually knocked the Rocks down was a different guy as he had an m203 grenade launcher on his weapon.
Buck I gotta ask, do you think anyone who has the drive to go SF, and is willing to train, can make it? Maybe not everyone since that's definitive, but the majority?
He couldn't rescue his man at the weapons depot because the gas was leaked in the room that they sealed. If they had opened it, they all would have died, and they would not have been able to save him anyway.
So, for the marine who died during the heist You have to weigh it all out That VX nerve gas is pretty much a quick death sentence They couldn’t let him out, they couldn’t save him, they couldn’t touch him. It definitely would’ve hurt Hummel but have to be real, when it’s a bio weapon a lot of normal things go out the window
So the fan theory is that Sean Connery was actually the continuation of his 007 character who was captured by the US, then denied by the UK and subsequently replaced by the next "James Bond." I think thats neat.

19:10 kiefer sutherlands character in phonebooth said it best "you know in movies, when the good guy is about to kill the bad guy, he cocks his gun, now why didn't he have it cocked? Because that sound is scary" I'm guessing that's the rule of thumb in hollywood
Apparently
Coming from a CBRNE background, I assume they are trying to replicate the MK 1 Nerve Agent kit in the lab scene. These are auto-injectors meant to be injected into the lateral aspect of the thigh. Not the heart.
I was like 7 or 8 years old when I see this movies 1993 or 1994 and. Damn I remember the day like it was yesterday and I remember being really sad when Sean Connery died on the movie .
I always found three things to be unbelievable in this movie knowing that this is supposed to be awesome and not realistic:
1) Connery got out, not back in, his roll would likely be off for the flame scene
2) the general tells two captains that they are performing as well as their reputations...he doesn't know these men? I would only choose ride or die brothers for this.
3) the pit where the seals all get killed...the marines knew that would be the place, no guard, no claymore, no grenades?...what?
The chopper story, something happened to me (us). Though I asked the rear Gunner and he confirmed yes,but added, "oh, he shoots at us all the time. He can't hit shit".....
10:22 I was definitely waiting for that glass to fall since minute one.
You should watch Mosul on Netflix, it takes place during ISIS’s push into Mosul and a group of Nineveh SWAT team members fighting against them. It’s fictional but it’s pretty good.
Hey I just want to say thank you guys for the content keep up the good work
Our pleasure!
Camo and makeup help. It's the opposite. For camo, make easily lite protruding things darker. And makeup you make it lighter.
So camo, forehead, nose, cheekbones, chin dark. Eyes, below bottom lip, below nose, light.
helicopter appears to be a Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King - called them jolly green giants - pave hawk replaced it -
I'm assuming the clicking was the hammer on the 1911 being cocked back.
"Stand fast" is a Navy/Marine thing, and I think those helos were Cobras.
The 2 guys standing behind the guy saying what an incident was were actual ex-Seal Team Six guys
"There's no clicking" is so spot on for any movie with guns in movies....lol
Just re watched this one boys, always fun to go back.
As a cop we use the Glock 17and the Bushmaster M4. I love seeing them being used in movies with the clicking sound. So stupid.
Thats said.
My theory on the clicking sounds from the firearms in movies is:
Most if not all action Hollywood movies are essentially a western.
You left out the same blood in the same mud scene man lol good review but that's what I was waiting for haha
Yeah I wasn't bad review but I honestly wish they would have done a few more scenes. The shower room scene, the Mason meeting Hummel scene, the rocket launch, and the double grenade scene.
@@napalmstickylikeglue I guess it's probably harder with an iconic movie like the rick to pick and choose but I completely agree with everything you just said
Thank you!!! Gun clicking noises have been a pet peeve for ages!
Here we go!
this was a fun one
Oh man thought you’d do the high ground scene tactically
Really like you guys but in my opinion you do skip some important military tactical scenes. So yah, the high ground scenario. What would you have done? Would the person leading a Navy Seal unit really not surrender in what looked to be a no win suicide situation? I know this video was posted a few months back but I just started binge watching your content 😮
BBC did a series on the founding of SAS: Rogue Heroes. Incredible series.
Just watched saints and soldiers, was so bad I needed a little Beers and Breakdowns to wash my palette! 😂
How did you guys not examine the scene where Connery is mocking him about "doing his best"?! That's probably the best line in the movie. I could almost hear Goggins saying it. ua-cam.com/video/gXDSxgDUv-c/v-deo.html
You guys need to check out
"the siege of jadotville"
will do
Awesome movie, almost erases the fact the guy was in 50 Shades of Grey for me.
this needs a full scene-by-scene review
I'm sure it's been said, but you guys should review First Blood. Cooler if you find a Nam vet SF dude to sit in with you to do the review.
6:13 he shut the door on him bc the gas is so potent that it would of killed the other guys as well if they got exposed to it. So it was either just him or all of them.
I like this movie when I was kid, "you just ph*cked up your Lamborghini!" Cage: "It's not mine." lol, good stuff.
If you’re gonna stick to 90s movies for awhile please do True Lies with Arnie. That movie was hella fun
that movie was awesome
Hey man. Are u up to review foreign military movies? Would love to hear your breakdown on Malaysian movie called Paskal (2018). Not sure if its available on Netflix US or not.
what happened to the shower scene?
i wanted you guys to talk about the scene where the RECON unit had the high point and the SEAL team had low ground
Didnt do the showers scene?
Great review and movie will have to watch it again
Always thought that in the showers, they hit the rocks on purpose to start the gunfight. What do you think? Or was it an accident?
Accident.
Guys, Just and FYI the helo was a attack Cobra used by the USMC
Very cool review. Wished y'all went a lil deeper into the rest of the film - perhaps a Patreon perk? Regardless, quality content 🔥🔥🔥
that's the plan, we will have a paid account on the site
just found you on youtube, love your show
Buck I gotta ask, do you think anyone who has the drive to go SF, and is willing to train, can make it?
Maybe not everyone since that's definitive, but the majority?
I do, a lot of people dont really want it as much as they think they do...
The guy from the Steven Seagal Navy Seals movie has me scarred for life!😂😂
The helos were AH-1 Cobras mostly used by the Marines.
pretty cool
He couldn't rescue his man at the weapons depot because the gas was leaked in the room that they sealed. If they had opened it, they all would have died, and they would not have been able to save him anyway.
I saw the glass thing when I was in the military and some guys writing stuffs there, but that's like a Soviet era thing.
Yo when Kurt comin back
So, for the marine who died during the heist
You have to weigh it all out
That VX nerve gas is pretty much a quick death sentence
They couldn’t let him out, they couldn’t save him, they couldn’t touch him. It definitely would’ve hurt Hummel but have to be real, when it’s a bio weapon a lot of normal things go out the window
"We'll just move on from that I guess..."🤣
Bucks commentary cracks me up!! Theres no clicks lol
New to the channel so I hope you cover movies like Taps, Toy Soldiers, band of the hand, den of thieves
Gonna have to duct tape those beverages to Abel's hands next time. 🤣🤣
yup lmao!
my carpet needed a shot.
So the fan theory is that Sean Connery was actually the continuation of his 007 character who was captured by the US, then denied by the UK and subsequently replaced by the next "James Bond."
I think thats neat.
Yes!
