      Thanks so much, sand dunes have quickly become one of my favourite subjects to shoot, the simplicity and contrast of harsh and soft details are quite unique and I also love ’s’ curves. Do you know if there are any sand dunes close to where you live?

    • @nystreets123
      @nystreets123 6 років тому

      Unfortunately not (as I live in New York). I think the closest sand dunes are in the US Southwest, a place I'd love to visit regardless (to see Monument Valley, Antelope Canyon, etc.).

      Hi Graeme, I always appreciate it when someone lets me know how they found my video, it helps me work out what’s working. Welcome to the channel and thank you for subscribing. Until recently I hadn’t shot many sand dunes, but I now love them as a landscape subject. I hope to one day get over to Death Valley to shoot some landscapes, from what I’ve seen it’s an amazing location. All the best and I hope you enjoy some of my other photography adventure vlogs!

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  6 років тому

      Alkimos...that's just south of Cervantes, haha! These are just at your doorstep. The closest sand dunes are Lancelin (I've done a video about these) if you travel a little further north you pass other sand dunes on your left and right, some are easy to access others a little harder but all of them much quieter than the Lancelin dunes! :)

  • @BrianHorsey
    @BrianHorsey 6 років тому +1

    Intersting place, Andrew. We saw pleny of the white sand around Cervantes, it reminded us of the White Sands NP in New Mexico. It must be dunes week - as well as Richard's take on your trip, Steve Mattheis has just done a UA-cam vid on some dunes in Idaho. Looking forward to seeing some of the astro-photography. The second image got my vote this time! Cheers.

      Thanks very much, I’m always looking for ways to broaden the variety of landscapes I capture, although I’m not going to be able to get far away from seascapes, they are a prominent part of the Australian landscape. While I know they aren’t for everyone, I’d argue they are technically more challenging than many other landscape styles. I’d love to travel more and I think you’re right, it would help in expanding the range of landscapes I capture, I hope this channel will help me fulfil that dream, thanks again!

    Hi Andrew. An interesting setting. It reminded me a bit of when you were in Iceland & that sense of being overwhelmed by the vastness and complexity of composing an image. For me its about having a good eye for cropping an image. For me the first image didn't quite work. However the second image with the 24-70mm worked really well. Love the texture in the dunes. Kindest Regards, Robert

    Nice! Those dunes didn't look too bad after all. Shame I wasn't able to make it. Last time we drove past them the wind was ripping over the tops, so looks like you're lucky in that regard! I couldn't work out why I was getting so many YT notifications.... talk about an awesome plug! Cheers mate. Currently scrambling over rocks in Karijini NP. If you haven't been, make it your next destination. This place is like Zion NP!

      Cheers Andrew (and Haylie), we had a great day, shame you weren't able to make it! We had great weather, a little too good it would have been nice to get a few clouds but I shouldn't complain. Great to hear the YT notifications are coming through, I'm hoping this will tip you over 1000 subs. Karijini is one of my favourite places in the world. I lived up there, in the Pilbara, for over 8 years. I've photographed there, but not yet captured a video. If not this year hopefully, next year, cheers mate!

      Of course! I forgot you're a Pilbara local. Karijini is unreal. Unfortunately we are here on the long weekend.... so currently hanging around waiting for the crowds to die down but were lucky enough to have Hamersley Gorge to ourselves yesterday evening.
      Subs went way over 1K. I ended up making a video to welcome all the new minions.... together, we will take over the world!!!!
      I would love to see your take on Karijini!

    For some reason UA-cam hasn’t been giving me notifications from your channel, it’s happened with quite a few of the channels I watch.
    What a video for me to catch up with you again, absolutely stunning images and I’d be happy to see any of them on my wall. Great video, absolutely brilliant.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  6 років тому +1

      Hi Mark, I had noticed you weren’t around. I was missing some banter about the upcoming cricket happening over in England. A new captain, new openers, it’ll be an interesting tour for us.
      It’s frustrating how UA-cam handles notifications, if you miss a video I think UA-cam assumes you’re no longer interested so stops hassling you about that channel. Glad you enjoyed this one mate!

    • @markharris5771
      @markharris5771 6 років тому +1

      I don’t think I would have given you any banter over your South Africa tour. I genuinely felt for you and the passionate Aussies, it seems incredulous to me that any team could treat its own supporters in such a way and cricket certainly was the loser. No sports supporter wants to hear of dubious behaviour from its players and Bancroft's schoolboy behaviour was cringeworthy. I felt the same with Atherton's soil, I’m still embarrassed by the Bodyline Series and my late father was only 3-4 years old then.
      I fear we’ve made exactly the same mistake we’ve made numerous times in the past, made our best player the captain. Root isn’t a leader, he should have been left to concentrate on his own game which has gone to pot since he was made the captain.
      With both analogue and digital photography as well as some wildlife I subscribe to quite a few channels, I wondered if it could be that. But I only have a few with the bell clicked, your channel being one of them.

    • @Andrew_marr
      @Andrew_marr  6 років тому +1

      I agree Mark, the whole ordeal left me feeling very empty. I also agree with your comments about Root, he was clearly England’s best batsman and was capable of destroying bowling attacks, and taking a game away from the opposition. I also think that the other England batsman played better when Root was in form, he took the pressure off them.
      The only difference with Smith was his batting actually improved after he became captain, averaging 56.1 before and getting as high as 63.7 after being given the top job. However, he doesn’t have the maturity to lead and therefore doesn’t make a good captain.

    Looks like you have a new location to go back to some time again in the future Andrew. Loved your last vlog from the dunes and this one compliments its well. I see you took the images on the D800 and was wondering how you are getting on with the D850

      Cheers Jim, we are definitely taking advantage of the reduced wind and cooler temperatures this time of year to get up to the dunes. The D850 is coming along nicely, I haven't had a chance to take it out on any trips yet hopefully soon. I'm hoping to vlog my first trip out with it. This video was shot a week before I decided to get buy the D850 otherwise, I would have brought it with me.

    Loved them images mate! Looks a crackin place! Would you say a polariser would help with the textures in that light? I’m wondering if it would cost you the contrast or enhance it 😊👍🏻

      Cheers Gareth, it was a wonderful location. I throw a CPL filter on but didn’t notice any significant improvement, so decided to take it off in fear of negatively impacting the sky with an uneven effect, cheers buddy!

    So nice ,Andrew !
    Wonderful !
    How do you manage not to leave footprints behind a potential composition in the desert?
    That's the most difficult part..

      Thanks very much, Asimesh, that's a very good question. We did have to be careful. We tried to look ahead to where we wanted to go and planned how we were going to get there. No very difficult just something we needed to consider.

    I was running up and down those dunes about a month ago. We had broken clouds, so I got a few peaks hit by the sun.
    There are more around Jurien Bay, contact the Jurien Bay Camera Club for details.

      I don’t think I’ve been up there when there have been clouds. I’ve always had to deal with clear skies. I’ll check out the Jurien Bay Camera Club, thanks for the tip!

      Andrew Marr There's also Stockyard Gully.
      My eye told me there was a curtain across the front, even though I could push my hand in and feel nothing, and see people come out, so I didn't go in.

    Andrew that shot of the sand dune with the pink sky is truly beautiful. Good to see you out with the Nikon again. Were you not tempted to shot the dead twigs/bush with the sand dune behind - kinda like the shots you see from Namibia?

      Hi Steve, I think that was my favourite shot! I did keep my eye out for that type of shot but there weren't really any trees impressive enough, perhaps I wasn't looking hard enough! :)

      just wondered about getting down low with the dead bush/twig would have made the dune big in the background. There is always another day!

    great picture, but if you were staying after dark surely you would have been able to get the Milky way in as well. You are supposed to get better views of it in the southern hemisphere than we get in the north, especially with the clear skies you had.

    Why not focus 1/3 in? They are all great shots.

      Hi Eli, search for this in Google maps - 4PXQ84XP+W5 that's where I parked the car and we walked across the road to the sand dunes.
