Once we purchase a new front door I am going to install another one of these Door Armor kits to help protect that door from unwanted guests attempting to break it down.
You may not need to replace you grass front door. Some triple laminated glass is exceedingly difficult to get through, even with a fireman’s ax. A standard door without glass may not get you any appreciable improvement, but the big window right next to the front door is another story. Thank you for all the videos and keep up the great work!
So why not just install a second security door? (That way you can open the main door with the security door locked and see who's there without letting them in.)
A determined burglar will eventually get through virtually any practical barrier. Security is mainly about delaying and buying time for alternate defense or escape.
Long ago I learned get a door that swings out not in, get a key in keynout deadbolt lock, and don't have your door hinges accessible on the outside and get a steel door. Those doors are then harder to break into. These additions you are showing are now the icing on the cake. Thank you and praying for continued safety in Seattle and across our nation.
The intruder can just kick out your glass insert and climb through the opening. I have experienced this firsthand, so no more large glass panels in exterior doors for me.
LOL Only Cliff will welcome you to his house, make it almost impossible to enter it, and then demonstrate himself breaking in and damaging his own property xD We need to buy you a new door now!
Have you considered a door barricade as well? Like NightLock or OnGuard. They are stupidly sturdy, to the point you can't get past them without physically breaking the door into pieces.
Well the armor looked to work. The problem is you don’t have a solid door. If your door split like it did it most likely is either a hallow door or at most a semi hallow door. Which is you wanted you could punch a whole straight through it and unlock it. I would like to see this same test with a fully solid wood door!
@@TheUrbanPrepper A security screen door would also make a nice addition to bolster your defenses. There are some rather decorative ones for sale these days so it's likely to receive your wife's approval. 😁
Good video and topic. May I suggest for the top portion of the door that you use the Defender Security Satin Nickel U 10827 Door Reinforcement Lock? I have these on all my doors and it really does give the doors additional support & increased security,
Hey Cliff. Is the door made of solid wood? It sounded hollow. Your football style ram shows the weakness of the door itself. Might it be better to invest in a strong door/hinges and lock (including the surroundings it sits in). Cheers
@@TheUrbanPrepper Not that i'm particularly biased, but perhaps a 'Dutch door' will be a nice in the middle option? ... They generally look nice (imo) with the middle feature, while they are also solid. Yet they give some extra protection to those inside by having the top and bottom hinge separately (which also means more hinges and thus harder to kick in (esp. if hinges use long screws)), meaning you can keep the bottom part locked while still opening the top to receive packages and what not... Another option could be to find a local blacksmith and have them make custom metal decorative bars (or some bar like structure) to mount over the glass portion. I have seen this in the past and a good blacksmith should be able to make a really cool metal guard to make sure nobody get make it through the door even after breaking the glass (and yes those would be like 'prison bars', but as said: a good blacksmith can make them pretty darn good looking ornamental prison bars).
Cudos to the guy for showing the kick-open approach almost works. And acknowledging that a brick to a window would work, if the bad actor wants to get get caught/whatever,
I understand how to install, but I think I might not be “door savvy” enough to understand how it works 🤔 When installing a pry shield on the outside, the bad guy can easily unscrew and remove it no? Where I live we have pry shields installed on the inside of the door and doorframe. But I suppose that would make it impossible to also install the other armor in the vid. This requires some Googling for me, what if my door security is not at full potential yet? 😱😁
The one way screws would prevent the pry shield from being removed, and I guess that the regular screws would serve as way to slow down someone trying to brute force their way in. I could be wrong so do'nt take my word for it!
The main problem with that pry shield is exposed screws. Someone could use a center punch and drill to knock off the heads of the screws and easily remove it.
Regarding your garage window, you could put bars on the inside. Even if they break the window, they cannot get in. Also, it would not affect the outside appearance.
You're a fairly big guy as well so I'd take that into consideration on that back door because it did look a bit flimsy but I'd think about when you change your front door make sure it's solid. I mean I know what you said about the windows ect but IF there was a home invasion it could still buy you valuable seconds
@@TheUrbanPrepper I assume you can (with some effort on those security screws) take the device off and put it on the new door or would you need a new one?
Thanks for sharing your experience and reporting what happened in your real-life testing to your garage door. Good to know. An alarm system should take care of the rest of the security installation. The door is simply a delay tactic to buy some time for your response plan.
What were you doing with your feet at 6:12 lightly knocking? You were just tapping that door and you barely used any body weight at 6:18 and with that light hit you broke your door. Not a very good test to show how good this product is.
Never understood why in the USA houses are constructed like that. Why not use cement like in many other countries and secure doors with thick deadbolts and windows with shutters... I live in a country with a fraction of your crime rates and without the extreme weather but most houses are at least 1000 times more secure than that.
I never understoot american homes and their wood constructions. Why would any break trough an door when they could use the cheap plywood walls or sigle sheed plain glass windows? I live in a german House with nearly 32inch thick brickwalls. This House is build in the 1900´s.
@@ThinkDragonX41T It's because in North America modern houses and apartments are generally mean to be built fast. A whole street of houses can be built in less than a year: from clearing the land to tenants moving in. Unless it's a custom-made, one-off, houses are built in bulk by developers using the cheapest, quickest methods. Similar with apartment buildings, they are built just as quickly. This doesn't mean they are bad quality - they could be built with better designs and better quality, but this would eat into the profits of the developer. Great product but now the problem is that the door itself is the weakest link is the door build. Consider replacing the door with a flush solid wood core door. 😄

Long screws are good too. But the real issue is the small amount of wood behind the lock it’s very easy to kick in . This product solves that problem I have one on my door screwed into my concrete walls with tapcon screws , I also have window bars inside my windows and I use multi lock deadbolts . The idea is to make your house harder than your neighbors to break into
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
You can get just as good protection without spending all that by simply replacing your normal screws with 3" screws. This is what's suggested by security professionals. all the extra metal is not necessary, just adding the 3" screws makes it impossible to kick in and even battering rams have difficulty. its easier to go through the dry wall than it is to go through the door.
That’s really weird to see such stuff installed after...do you usually feel safe in your home at night? In Italy if you don’t have a good security door burglars will knock at your door for sure.
