I have my first Farmers Market in 12 days, and just planted 24 trays (4 of each of Arugula, Broccoli, Pac Choi, Pea, Sunflower, and Mustard). I have you two to thank for most of my knowledge thus far! In fact, as I am growing I have the Pea and Sunflower videos open on my computer so I can track my progress with yours on each day, and I have a board that has your info sheet so I make sure I get my procedures right.
Right now I am doing an experiment with 2 trays of each variety being only watered once at seeding, and not again until blackout. Then the other 2 trays of each follow your method of watering twice daily. I was thinking of doing a little video with the results, as you have done so many times.
Thanks for all you do, and I look forward to having a lot of fun with Microgreens in the future.
Thank you including the part on how you sanitize the trays and medium!
Awesome video, as always very insightful and educational.
Thank you so much for the support!! We greatly appreciate you!
I used a uv fluorescent light alongside my led grow lights once and it made my radish microgreens very spicy!
hellooo from San Antonio! I’ve been waiting for this vid! 🤩
Hey from Lucas TX. Power off and on today.
The real comparison should be between the colored led (blue or yellow) and the white T5. Are you considering going for such comparison ?
Did you consider putting solar panels on your trailers roof? Or some stationary around the trailer. I mean could be a great to counter those poweroutages, and just imagine how good it sounds to grow your greens with greenly produced electricity ;)
Absolutely! We looked into this for a bit, but the solar panel efficiency is still kinda lacking... I would have to create an area of solar panels larger than the entire 8.5x20 roof that we have, so I would need some sort of deployment system to open and close the panels... basically it got a bit complicated. I’m still considering it, I was just hoping over the past two years we’d start making a lot more strides in solar panel efficiency, but we just aren’t there yet. Which is surprising because this trailer doesn’t pull too much power with all the LEDs. I’ll have to look into it again and see where we are at with the efficiencies! Perhaps even a backup battery system at the minimum would be super useful.
@@OnTheGrow look at RV systems, they work well.
JUST bought your book! Anxious to get at it.
Can’t wait to hear what you think!! We packed everything we could in there! Thank you for the support!! 🤗🌱🌱
Hello from Hot Georgia....
Hello from The Gulf Coast area . The weather has been crazy here in Texas this year for sure , but I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.
Lol, we feel you! Texas is an amazing state and We love our fellow Texans! We are thinking about moving out towards hill country in the next year or two...
The music is pretty nice tbh :)
Thank you! We leave it up to our editor mostly, but when we select it, we like to stick with chill-hop or lo-fi style jams!
Hey guys.
You should try growing With 60x60 panel lights for ceiling, often used in offices. They come in 6500k and are low cost as well as low on watt. Since the heat is low you can place then really close to the trays…
Hi! A fan here from Venezuela! I have an indoor farm facility and wanted to know which is the specific UV light you use in this video! Thanks a lot for your videos!
Awesome video!
Could you give me a help? What do you think about this light configuration?
LED T8 36W - 6500K - 3.200 lumens
That's one of the best options that I find here in Brazil.
Those would work great! I’d use two per shelf if that’s the single light specs!
@@OnTheGrow Yes! It is! Thank you so much! Also, soon I'll buy your book! Do you plan to release a printed version of it? Would be nice to put on my bookshelf! :D
Another great vid guys.
Thank you so much for the support Bill! We have a lot more we are building up and can’t wait to share! Hope you have a great weekend!
@@OnTheGrow Shortly before cannabis was legalised here in Canada, Costco started selling LED panel lights with blue and red LED's for about $40 CAD. Each colour has its own switch so you can go red, blue or a combo. About half the width of your blue panels. Do you think there would be any advantage to this system? I was thinking that I could place them in the middle of a pair of T5's. Also, downloaded your book and have added it to my arsenal of reference material.
“…The more intense the light, the more intense the colour of the cotyledons ...“
Do you think one could get even better results with dimmbare lights, where over the first couple days the lights are dimmed so that the greens have to reach more and gain mass, and then 1 or 2 days before harvest one would crank up the intensity to also get this beautiful colouration? (and maybe flavours)
What do you think?
Great suggestion! We have tested out growing under weaker T5 lights for the first 4 days of the grow then finishing the plants under the stronger lights for the last day or two, and we will get that gorgeous coloration after allowing them to stretch under the weaker lights. Dimmable lights would be a fun test to do something similar to this without having to move trays around...
Low light will cause stem elongation, reaching for the availible light don't do that! But have adequate light blue in early stages helps keep plants squatty better than long stems branching out. BadMF
what concentration you buy and what dilution
When I gow my microgreens it works pretty good in general (thanks to all what I learned on this channel). However, I often get a fairly large number of stems that are pretty long, but first grow horizontally and then vertically. I'm not sure whether I leave the weight on for too long, or the blackout too short or long. It's not really a big deal, but it makes harvesting more complicated. Do you have any idea?
You only did one thing wrong, in my opinion, you should have run three test lights the third being the 3 tube white lights.
👍 You should check out Nature's Generators and get rid of your power bill and make that thing truly mobile.$$$
Getting this trailer it’s own power source has been a goal of mine for a while now! I looked at solar panels, but it would’ve taken so many that I would need some form of deployment system for them... ended up steering clear of that for the time. I’ll check out Natures Generators!
Mine are in the kitchen so anything other than white is unacceptable. Also yield isn't so important to me, I'd rather focus on overall health benefits. It would be interesting to have then analysed for nutrients and anti cancer / heart disease properties, probably expensive though and probably not too affected by different lights.
Do you use the light meters allot or only when trying new lights?
Only when we try new lights because I want to share the light output as best I can for our followers! That way they don’t have to go out and buy a $500 meter 😆🌱🌱
Sucks about the power outages.... most digital timers at least good ones have a few day long battery back up so you dont lose your schedule and they come back on with power outages..
Good to know! The ones I used several years ago did not. Time to look into timers again :) any other advantages of digital timers?
@@OnTheGrow I like the ability to set different schedules on the digital timers. you can have dual plug timers so one plug has one schedule and the other has a different schedule. for micros we always use a 18 on 6 off but sometimes we grow other things that we play with the timer to like 12 and 12 or other. or set lights on one timer and fans on other if you want fans to change from just being 24 hours on. and I just like the ability to see the time digitally and not the analogue dial.
Hi, from Boston, Mass. HOT HOT HOT...ahhhhhh cccoooooooooooolllll microoooogreeeeeeennsssszzz.! until then, I will roll a fatty....Peace : )
Its not yellow its red!!!
Hmmm... it’s in the red spectrum, but from what I understand of colors, that is more yellow than red. Have you seen Red LEDs? They are a lot more defined in the red spectrum than this. Really the most accurate way to describe this would be around the 2700K temperature, which I see as yellow.
@@OnTheGrow ok its yellow
@@OnTheGrow We have some red spectrum lights from previous non microgreen projects. I was hoping to get some use out of those before eventually ordering a 12 pack of the lights of your Amazon store. Sounds like red is bad for microgreens though? Is it worth the free light source or should I just buy the right ones immediately?
This free music really is cringe
Oh wow, sorry you feel that way. We’ve always used Lo-Fi style music for our transitions... what would you prefer?
