You shouldn't knock the dimmable lights until you try one. I used to not care about the feature until two of my lights came with them. Now they're my go to for their versatility. Something to keep in mind is that raising your light doesn't reduce it's heat output.

1)Objection on your statement at time line 14:40. using aluminum back plat is natural cooling systim, reduce power consumption,( required fan unit cost and power consumption)inctease efficiency and life of LED lamp.
2) LED light Having very good life span , typically 40,000 to 50,000 hrs. Light unit life depend up on power supply (PSU) which deive LED'S.normaly PSU die depending on quantity and way the wiring done.

Best regards. Thanks for your information. Any thoughts on using a combination of LED light s pectrum with a 450 Watt Metal Halide for Veg. Then HPS for Bloom.? Transformer has dimmer capacity. Or would you think a full out LED set up would bring better results? Once again best regards and appreciate your thoughts on this combination?

I Use The Bestva D.C Series The 4000w Version LoL The 2 Lm301B Models I have uses 450w And the Classic Bestva D.C 4000 uses 615 Watts and I also have a WILLS Full Spectrum 2000w CREE COB. It uses 450 Watts

I have used light for 40 years: all kinds. But that does not matter - the info in this video is based on scientific knowledge - not my experiences.
@@Gardenfundamentals1 You should at some point do a follow up and dive into "Beyond PAR". Kinda interesting how the research keeps trickling out that plants do benefit in many ways by light outside of "PAR". It's like our smartest NASA types are letting the Chinese spoon feed us 1 nm at a time. Great way to pick growers pockets I guess selling them something "new" over and over

I don't follow what you are saying. I said an LED light should have some green, and I thick all of the ones from Amazon have some green. Green is not needed but it does help with plant growth.

Any thoughts or comments on the grow light bulbs that can just go into a lamp? Obviously only used for a small space- but I grabbed one from the dollar store for my grapefruit tree which stays indoor during cooler weather (which is the majority of our year in Northern Ontario). Total waste of time?

What research are you referring to? The light absorbed by plants is well understood - I doubt white light is better than the light they need.

Great information and thank you for explaining what plants need so well. I still struggle and feel like I go round in circles on Amazon with all the grow lights available. Cost is a consideration. I do look for LED’s, the PPFD and spectra. Usually most don’t provide what is needed. I just start in March my flowering annual, tomatoes and peppers. What still confuses me is do I need the higher PPFD since by end of May all my plants will go outside?
If plants go outside for the summer, the PPFD value is less important. In winter you are mostly trying to coast them along until they get outside.
I took tomato plants out of my grow room a few months ago(actually they were clips) to give to a friend. It took at least a week before they wouldn't wilt in direct sunlight. Evidently, ambient light is a lot more powerful than my grow lights.
So when they say you need to condition your indoor seedlings, you know what to expect.
I live in California where it is quite hot and to place seedlings under a T8 florescent lamp has just proven too hot in any season. Soil temp rises and germination rates fall. I have opted to try an LED lamps with the expectation that I will be able to get equal light and greater distance from the plants thus not heating the soil quite as bad. May I ask your thoughts on this?
A fan on a T8 - and you won't increase temperature at the seedlings above the room temperature. LED lights will give off less heat, but they still give off heat.
@@Gardenfundamentals1 in the retro t8's (florescent replacements), it's the ballasts that get the hottest. I've been running 23) 4' lamps divided by 4 ballasts. Anyone interested in using shop lights retro to LED, you must have an electronic ballast. Try to mount the ballast outside the grow room.

To correct his highness here on a few point here, I would say that it is correct to measure a PAR value in ppfd. The amount of photosynthetically-active radiation is expressed in the number of usable photons falling in a given unit of time on a unit of area. Also, white light is a combination of red, green, and blue, therefore contains all of them. If you look at the bottom of a leaf that grows under white light you will still see that the leaf looks green. That means that you see the green light penetrating the leaf cells. White light can be supplemented by blue or red diodes and is no less efficient than the ugly blurple monster. BTW, looks like the PAR spectrum must be broadened to reach both the UVA and the far red parts of EM spectrum. Those waves are responsible for plans morphology and production of such metabolites as carotenoids, tepenes, and cannabinoids.

Not completely accurate around white light (300-800) and purple lights. It might 'seem' less efficient because PAR is 400-700 BUT this is based on OLD science we now know that when used used in combination with other spectrums 300-400 and 700-800 contributes to photosynthesis. Daisy chaining can also be used to provide electricity - ever heard of a power bar?
There is too much on Growers mind already . Who cares for all of those college degree words. Hydro Farm Radiant 8 is the way to go. By all parameters it is the closest thing to sunlight light . Get 450 to 1050 true watts out of the same light. Either vented or not vented, Dimmable or 4 position power selector models are available. LED lighting has very limited light spectrum, and plants are very sensitive to color of light while HPS lighting provides full spectrum and 2 x 2 ft light reflectors of Radiant 8 cover area of 4 by 4 ft ( or even more) of growth area.
