I think it was removed less so because it was too disturbing and moreso because it implied incredibly bad things about the game's creator. Lore wise, marriage is only capable of happening between consenting individuals. Having a suppsed marriage between Hugo and a cherub would make it seem like the creator of the game thought children could consent, even if it wasn't actually a marriage and more like what stitches does.

It’s entirely (and horrifically, but somewhat on par with the extremely warped sense of morals of the old gods) possible that Hugo “coerced” the kid into forming a marriage with him. Would have been a REALLY dark way of making a pedophile priest joke, and the existence of the Sylvian ritual circle in the orphanage already covered that base.

I feel like Hugo is a reference to the titular villain of the book blood Meriden, Judge holden. Both are large bald white men who are completely and unrepentantly evil, both have an intellect we can’t understand and their goals are unknown but can’t be inferred.
And they both commit serial r*pe, torture and murder of children. The judge is one of the absolute scariest fictional character I've ever read. What he did to the kid at the end was supposed to be so horrible that it was the only time the visuals of the scene weren't described at all. Goddamn.

We can even say, a sadistic child abuser with those things happening in the basement. The cherub is gone, but it's still heavily implied in my opinion. Silvian is the god of love, physical and emotional. That is why that circle is there. Because that priest is so evil he sees his twisted fetishes as manifestations of love. Whether Silvian agrees is immaterial. It is about what the demented priest thinks. As for the god of destruction...he not only is consort to Silvian but it is implied he was the head god back when the old gods were actually there. If you are gonna worship Silvian in such a twisted way you might as bring her main squeeze into the mix. And sides...given all the death that place was steeped in it just makes sense to dedicate it to the god that rules over death and destruction. Again, whether that god is pleased by the offering is immaterial. The gods are mostly disgusted and jaded by humanity by this point anyway. Why would they deign to cast enough of their essence at noticing anything but that the correct rites are followed?

So if you party talk in the Court yard with Levi and Mariana in your party it is revealed the orphanage was originally a court house. If you were to search an apartment by the museum , Marina mentioned it belong to Father Hugo. His home have a giant Hexen shrine room. There is also a perfection circle to pray to either the Fear and Hunger or All Mer god. Plus his bed has a dead cherub.

The kid was a cherub (that was what a commenter was saying), it was a scrapped idea since in the first one you can't actually have the marriage with kids but that might just be a gameplay thing because doing the deed with kids is just not it, but in the world of funger that might be possible idk. Tbh i am not surprised that humans are just as capable when the game allows you to craft a DIY chainsaw with a bench grinder. It's also pretty interesting that priests in this game are a lot closer to cultists. Father hugo basically went insane just to get more power, he killed children and sacrificed heads for soul stones, then used them at the Hexen table to learn various types magic from gods. Disregarding the life of others for his own benefit. which happens to also be how you are supposed to play this game, you kill helpless people to get soul stones and become more powerfull. And there is an entire area right at the start of the game where there are extremely weak enemies who seem to only be partially moonscorched, some being a literal free kill.

Even if he doesn't exercise, the hexen skills can boost one's stats. So it's possible that he took souls from physically capable people, then boosted his Body (explaining why he's tougher than the likes of Marcoh) and Attack (which is associated with a muscular body type)
I completely disagree about the “npc telling you” comment I think u make an assumption that something like that would just be some random yapping at you about what happened when in reality what that would look like is a character such as Levi, Samarie or Marina who u and ur character may have an actual emotional connection to not simply telling you what happened but showing you through their dialogue the aftermath and trauma as they were victims of dark priests and the orphanage it would flesh out characters and create incredibly impactful emotional, sad and memorable moments where we actually see the effect this had on the victims themselves by speaking to them about it I think that would be a million times more interesting than you making an assumption about a sigil circle outside his office regardless of how likely the assumption may be.
imo i think all the "gods" are not the "gods" that created everything and humanity, otherwise why under their influence everything warps and twists and turns into unworldy creatures. If they created everything, then under their influence stuff shouldnt change.
