First, the mere fact that he was a Virginian allowed for the southern states to agree to this new union. Secondly, Washington's military prestige, and ability to work with next to nothing and still lead his men to fight the long and tiring war is impeccable and shows the kind of leader he was. One of the GREATS quotes of ALL time was written by him in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one language here, and this is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is the loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt (he greatly disliked being called Teddy) once brought a fist to a gunfight...and won.
The story goes that while ranching in Dakota territory, Roosevelt was enjoying a drink at a local saloon when a man walked in with a gun, which he drew and then ordered a round for the house...on Roosevelt. Theodore didn't appreciate this one bit, so he stood and immediately clocked the man square in his jaw, putting him on the floor and out cold.

Come to Long Island New York and make a reservation to tour his home which is maintained by the National Parks Service. It is a true representation of the man who built it and the family who lived there. The bad ass nature of Roosevelt carried through to his son Ted Jr. whose house is on the same grounds, is largely dedicated to a museum, and won the MoH at Utah beach during the D-Day invasion. The oldest man going ashore and walking with a cane, his forces dropped off at the wrong location and under German fire he attacked the enemy positions and claimed the first beach on D-Day.

Remarkable man. Owen Wister had his friend Roosevelt review and critique the drafts of THE VIRGINIAN prior to publication. Total badass!

In contrast to the 14 year-old girl we have as president who gets in Twitter fights and blocks people for calling him out.

@@NateWilder. no, we got the president that too many morons voted for...I was not responsible for contributing to that disaster, and I don't deserve any of what has happened!

We got the President we needed. One to expose the weakness and corruption that exists in our government. I'd rather have an irritable Twitter tirade than a President who willfully abandons Americans overseas or one that can't seem to keep his hands to himself, even in public.
