Depending on how you lay out the rest of your base, you could easily put a hatch frame in the middle and keep your generators down there. Just pop open the hatch when you need to refill it.

I usually dont watch un narrated videos... I find them tedious to pay attention to the build while having to read while being distracted by w/e music the creator decide to put on... but this was very well done, I love the pause, the arrowed note of next step and fast forwarding of repeated step. I think if you just snap a narration on it instead of me having to read it while paying attention to the build technique it would be a master piece. Thank you for your effort in creating this vid, I love it never the less.

I personally prefer unnarated style. I have stuff I am listening to at the time, and I can easily pause at the text instructions, taking my time to comprehend what is being communicated. I do much better following instructions I can see. Spoken instructions I need repeaded. Aarons videos I like more than other tutorials, so I dont have to skip back to re-hear what was instructed.

SS is a fantastic mod...same as S+, but it simply does not work with this particular tutorial. Had my own way of making a 12-sided "circle" of foundations, but this 24-sided monstrosity is awesome.
I would add that, if you aren't concerned with resource use, you can skip the final, outer fence foundations, attach a staircase to the inside of the outer wall you made, then attach an actual foundation to the bottom of the staircase.
Repeat that all the way around and then you can destroy all the walls and pillars and use the outer foundations as a means to work inward until the entire base is actual foundations and only a couple feet off the ground.
With this method, you don't need to switch to thatch, either. Also, just so others know... You don't actually HAVE to use wood or stone. Metal works just fine.

    • @mwylach

Does work for me. I tried standard and S+ blocks. When I destroy or pick up the second tile the fence foundation breaks. Tried many times many angles, same effect. There are easier ways to get a circle base on relatively flat ground, I was hoping this pillar system would be better for uneven ground.

I just used this in a build on Lost Island.
Had some problems getting a dinosaur gateway(width of two) to fit so that it is aesthetically pleasing, don't actually like the way my solution looks. This seems to be due to not having and edge at the circle that is two ceilings on which to place. In the past planning to use a gateway ahead of time give way to being able to make it snap centered on two ceilings. Just couldn't find a way to have two adjacent ceiling align with the center joint for two ceiling at the perimeter.
But I do like this and will be using this else where.
    Thanks for the excellent videos!

This maybe because on the server your playing, clipping is permitted. That is structures are allowed to clip the ground (be hidden by the ground). On PC Solo play this setting is located at: Main Menu ---> Host \ Local ---> General Tab ---> Disable Structure Placement Collision
Checking this box "Allows players to place structures the clip into terrain."
ON PC Solo play the default for this is unchecked. I assume that this is the same on official servers.

  • @Silverbeard01
    @Silverbeard01 2 роки тому +2

I have a question, how many ceilings can you go out with this method? Is there a limit before it becomes too difficult or the circle shape becomes deformed?
Additionally, I had an issue with the second major step where you are placing the fence foundations after the triangle foundations have been laid.
In this step, the fence foundation would break once I picked up the ceilings.
I solved this by turning my character and placing the ceilings on a different set of the triangle foundations. I had to repeat this till I found a starting point that wouldn't delete the fence foundation after I picked up the ceilings. From then every step after went smoothly, except for what WEC_ID has pointed out in his reply, at 6:18 in the video. So pay extra attention to where you place the ground fence foundations to help align the stone walls to close off the outside of the build. I managed to miss place 3 of them and that ended up ruining the perfect finish to the build.

I love your videos Aaron Longstaff but I don't really see the point of this method over just using a combination of square and triangle foundations. For uneven terrain? But what about internal snap points? And the ceiling?. Again no hate just curious as to what advantage this circle method has over any others

I had to build a small structure to stand on so that I was looking down on the thatch roof. Or you can do this from the saddle of tall tames.

Aim for top of thatch roof at an angle and it should snap at floor. Take a bit of position. Snaps ahead of ya a pillar or two. Aim for one away from you. Not the ome you'd stand under/next to. If that makes sense .-.

Great build as always Aaron. I wonder, would it work to put the stone fence foundations on the ground below the thatch, then place wall on them. But after that, delete the rest of the center and build ceilings inward off of the fence foundation walls? That way you have a x1 high "foundation" instead of the x1.5 high foundation. I want to do a greenhouse/aviary with this method.
