  • The winners of the recent "Name our New K9" Contest were announced. The winning name, submitted by two Boise teens, is in honor of Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Arthur Jackson. Mr. Jackson served in the US Marines during WWII and was honored for "conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the 3d Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on the Island of Peleliu in the Palau group, 18 September 1944." The dog's new name - "Jackson". Hundreds of names were submitted to the contest via the BPD K9 Unit Facebook page. Many were outstanding. But officers of the K9 UNit unanimously chose "Jackson". During a ceremony today announcing the winners, Mr. Jackson and his wife Sally joined BPD in thanking the winners, McKenzie and Trent Johnson. Trent is a Boy Scout and his Scout Troop 315 joined him in meeting and honoring Mr. Jackson. The $100 awarded to Trent and McKenize was donated by the brother and sister to the Wyakin Warrior Foundation, a local group that helps post 9-11 wounded or sick vets into new civilian careers.
