explosion originated someplace with nothing that could explode. the battery pack is forward of the trucks bed, and the cctv footage clearly shows the explosion coming from within or under the bed. the only thing in that area is the rear motor assembly, and that isn't going to detonate like the footage shows happening.

Water is good for putting out fireworks fires. That is what this was along with many cans of flammable liquids. I don't think the battery even exploded at all.
I think technologies should defend themselves. When batteries have the same power density and safety as gas and diesel then we'll all be driving them. That said this doesn't look like a battery fire, in which case its actually a good advertisement for the safety of the battery in this otherwise idiotic vehicle. You can blow it up or set it on fire and the battery doesn't immediately cook off too.
