I’ve had my pair for four years now. I’ve worn them hiking and for different things. These were the most painful boots that I have ever broken in - by far! They are now my most comfortable and supportive. I first measured myself and Baker’s sized me at 10D for White’s Bounty Hunters (now 7.5 years old) and fit perfectly. Based off of that they put me at 9.5D on my Nick’s. I find this is nearly perfect, but that I have to lace them up tight at the ankle to prevent heel slip. The ankle and arch were what made them so painful, but they now just hug my arches perfectly. I will be buying a pair of 6” Nick’s this winter. Great boots.
@Zach B, I am looking at my first custom made boots, although I have over 10 pairs of Allen Edmonds boots but I like arch support, I work in an office environment but I love sturdy boots. Which boots do you recommend? I looked at Bounty hunters and urban loggers and like them. I also thought of asking Nick's to make me a builder pro or hotshot in 8 inches. Please make some suggestions Thanks
Chicagoan I am going to have my next boot be one of the Nick’s 6” boots. I think that they currently are a better brand than White’s and if you don’t mind spending the extra $50 they will do a fitting for you that includes a pair of try-on boots mailed to you to make sure you get a proper fit. That’s what I am going to treat myself to around the holidays. I can’t really recommend an exact pair of boots to you as it needs to be a personal choice. But I think Nick’s has come out with a lot of great designs these past 3-5 years, and I can vouch that they are a solid boot.

Chicagoan I have the Nick’s Hotshots, I love them, but they were so painful to wear and didn’t get comfortable for quite a long time. But, now they are amazing. The Hotshots have a rubber midsole which I have been told helps insulate against heat. I don’t fight fires, but I wanted to buy a boot that was in stock as the builder pro had a long wait time at that point. I wouldn’t recommend a triple midsole. A double midsole makes the boot less flexible and takes longer to break in. If I could do it all over again I would do a Builder Pro in a brown leather. The Hot Shots are amazing boots, but I think they they sometimes come off a bit like combat or punk boots. I am a semi-professional photographer, three or so years ago wore my Hot Shots while documenting a protest. And a man aggressively approached me accusing me of being like an undercover cop or something. I’m going to probably get the Nick’s Robert’s boot in brown waxed flesh. More casual, still a solid boot, and offers great arch support for all day standing.

I am subscribed to your channel and see that you own bounty hunters. Do you think I should stick with Nick's instead of bounty hunters? These are without a doubt the best boots money can buy. Anything more expensive is either overpriced or sooo nice that it’s basically a work of art like WhiteKloud
I just got my second pair in 55 last broken in and I forgot how horrible the first were to break in. Just now after 2 months they don't hurt. For fitting I just went to my local Coatlstal and tried on Whites that were on the shelf and they were the same size as Nicks
Try the obanauaff laces there impregnated with LP and they last forever I havea pair of whites that the laces have been in for 5 years and they still look good... I just got my Nicks broken in and I'll put obanauffs in them this week

I thought the same thing as you about the pricing. Im surprised that they dont cost more. especially when you compare the price to other mainstream boots. I think the price of Nicks is actually a bargain for what you get and what is out into them.

The Boots need to be fitting tight. This is very, very important. If you do not have a tight fit, you will destroy your feet trying to break these in, because basically your foot will just be sliding around in the boots. In terms of the stiffness, they will eventually start to bend and flex, but it will take a while, in my opinion.
Once you break any model of Nicks they will be very comfortable. Any model is good for house/office. In my perspective. Sometimes In office with my builders pro and sometimes Im at the job site with the Falcons. The quality level make them very versatile to be everywhere
@@chicagoan6342 great! In my experience the Builders and hotshots are heavy. Just be prepared to handle the weight. Is nothing of the other world but if you cant handle so much weight I will suggest to get something lighter like Heritage line or Rangers. I have 8" height, full roughout and honey vibram. Honestly that honey had cushion (just little) and help. The black sole is more rigid and will last more(specs). My sole had been with little worned since I dont hike, most of my time st jobsite or office so my sole is preserve. The 10" fit test was to up for me. I couldn't handle feeling the leather in my calf. At the end is a matter of preferences. If you like it l, do it. I really like the builders maybe will buy some rangers the 8" with the V Bar sole. I really like that sole for casual and medium/light duty. Good luck Sir in your adventure!

He has in fact termed Urban Loggers as the Perfect Boots :) I am narrowing it down to Urban Loggers or Builder Pros in 8 inch and would probably pick Chocolate all smooth leather. I wound not recommend for office since too bulky to heavy but you can get a little more nice office looking and sole will be more pleasing than hard looking rubber. Hotshot is mostly for construction etc not for office.
Iron rangers are off the shelf boots. These ideally should be custom fit at the factory. If not fit on site, they will send you a kit to trace your foot and take some key measurements. They then send you a pair that meets your size requirements. After that, it’s a matter of getting the boot to mold to your foot. Apples and oranges.
I agree, Nicks Hot Shot are very tough, very durable. The Whites Smoke Jumper are also very tough, very durable. I own and wear both. For some reason, the Drews Boots, Rough Shot and Rough Out are way more comfortable on my feet, why I do not know. In my opinion, when I compare Nicks vs Drews, I think pound for pound for some reason the Drews take less time to break in, but are just as tough and durable. That's just my two sense though. Either way, good review, good purchase on these Nicks Hot Shot Boots!
That’s because he already has done that with white’s boots. White’s boots have even more history then Nicks and they are built almost identically. So he doesn’t need to do it again because he already knows what size he needs. The custom fit takes wayyyy longer to do then just ordering them.
If you knew how they were built you would beleive me. What are half slip inserts even for? Think about it. Whatever you guys beleive what you want, dont say I didnt warn you. Try weighing 220 lbs and carrying a chainsaw +60 lbs for 2 years.

Wrong, rough out is actually the flesh side (inside)of the hide, the outside, where the hair use to be is the now smooth grain after the tanning process. I know it seems backwards but this is the truth. Call any leather dealer and they will confirm.

Yeah, good catch, these are the Builder Pro? I don't like that really thick sole on the Hot Shots, it's uncomfortable in my opinion.

Interestingly, Drew's farms out their USA boots to, White's, Nicks, and Franks. So your Drew's are actually 1 of the 3👍

On Nicks? I’ve seen cross-sections on Rose Anvil and the nails are miles from anywhere near to being ever able to breakthrough.
